Before I get into my reasoning for this article let me first state that there is only about a one to three percent chance of this realistically happening. But like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber THERE'S A CHANCE!
Now that I got that out the way let me start off by saying it was reported earlier today that Andrew Bynum had agreed to a 2 year 24 million dollar incentive laden deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He became the Mavericks Plan A after they had swung and miss for the second year straight on the super star free agents (Howard, Paul, Deron). Mark Cuban has countered his strike outs by signing players such as Jose Calderon, Devin Harris, and Wayne Ellington. These are not superstar or even high-quality players. None of these players are going to seriously help the Mavericks get back to the playoffs. Additionally, it was reported that the biggest fish left on the free agent market Monta Ellis is also not interested in joining Dallas. If you ask me your franchise is in trouble when someone rather go play in Sacramento. Furthermore, it was reported that Dallas is now targeting centers like Samuel Dalembert and Brandan Wright.
Really? Is this really the team that is suppose to help the Mavericks get back to the playoffs and compete. A line-up that consists of Calderon,Carter,Marion, Dirk, and Dalembert is not striking fear in anyone. Basketball fans know its time for Dallas to start fresh and Mark Cuban wont admit it but maybe its time that Mark Cuban considers starting over. Big free agents are not interested in joining the team, they do not have any trade assets that would help them acquire another big-time player and the franchise roster is not competing anytime soon.
Enter Chicago. If Mark Cuban wises up and realizes that his team is not going anywhere it would be smart for him to start looking at dealing his biggest asset Dirk. A package of Boozer and a pick or two for Dirk would be better than anything Mark Cuban is getting out there in free agency. Boozer is by no means a terrible player. He can get you 16 points and 8 rebounds, he would become a stop-gap player for one year then becomes a very desirable expiring contract the next year for when Mark Cuban believes he can go after and successfully obtain Lebron James (Joke). The pick(s) would help in the rebuilding process. This trade can be successfully completed based on the ESPN trade machine. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine (looked at this for salary cap purposes).
Dirk is 35 and wants another chance at a title and playing on the Bulls will definitely give him that plus he would provide the Bulls with floor spacing, veteran leadership, and a great player. Dirk has never asked to be traded from Dallas but I wouldn't be surprised if that came out soon due to the fact that the off-season has played out terribly for Dallas. It would be hard to imagine Dirk in any other uniform but a Mavs uniform but that's what they said about Paul Pierce and hell be wearing Brooklyn across his chest this upcoming season. I highly doubt this will happen but its always fun to speculate. Dirk wearing Bulls across his chest this upcoming season is highly doubtful but its time for Dirk to get what he deserves and that's another chance at a title. I appreciate and understand that Dirk is loyal and Mark Cuban is loyal but hey loyalty has its limits.
