If anyone can convince the haters, maybe it's our hero Joakim.
"Derrick's a brother," Noah said. "And to see him go through this is tough, but at the end of the day it's really funny how quick people are to judge. But people don't know what it's like to lead a team, especially after you tore your ACL.
"If you tore your ACL and you have to be the starting point guard and have the expectations that Derrick has, then maybe you can judge, but everybody who hasn't been in that situation before should really shut up because I feel like it's just so unfair to him and to this team. We're fighting, and everybody's going to just s--- on somebody who's been giving so much to this organization. It's crazy to me."
Now, I actually am at the point to where I think Rose is making a bad decision too. But I'm nowhere near the point to where I would say "f Rose" or "either you're playing or you shut down NOW."
I do buy the JayPatt school of thought "If he's this close, why didn't he play before?" To an extent. Only to an extent.
Think about it this way. The Bulls are so thin right now at guard that Belinelli is starting and Teague is backing up Nate who is starting. If Rose was say... 3rd string caliber 3 weeks ago and improves enough to be a backup caliber player after those 3 weeks, it makes sense for him to fight to come back this series, especially if the Bulls win another game out of the next 2.
Now, there are a few other scenarios that I think are an exception to the JayPatt line of thought, but I do agree with it mostly: I do think Rose has made a mistake this year (unless we've all been lied to and he's just terrible right now only people are focusing on spot up shooting and non game type moves). Not nearly a mistake that I'd say some of the nasty things so many have said on here. Worst case in my mind, he's 1-2 months behind schedule. If that's mental, so be it. 1-2 months is not enough to blast your franchise star, or question his toughness when he's come back from other injuries very quickly (only to be reinjured again). So quick everyone forgets who this man is.
Maybe another win will keep the Rose hate to a minimum?
I know, "not another Rose post" but c'mon, every single one of them gets 300+ replies, it's obviously a popular topic. Here's one in favor of our franchise star, from a fan who has now gone into "he's probably making the wrong decision" mode. I think Noah's with me though, mostly.
