The recent last minute loss to the Mavericks
can be explained in two easy words: Sixth Seed. Yes, the Bulls
are playing to win, but the last two minutes game-time substitutions are looking very suspicious.
With the Bulls clinging to a 6 point lead, Thibodeau kept Boozer out on defensive end even though there were dead ball opportunities to put in a defensive switch. On both occasions the Mavericks took advantage of the mismatch and ran high pick n roll's for Nowitski-knowing that Boozer never closes out. This resulted in two Nowitski uncontested made 3's and a Mavericks win. This is the same Thibodeau that always makes offensive-defensive switches with the slow acting Boozer. So why not in Dallas?
Dropping the Bulls down to the sixth spot will ensure more playoff home games. With Derrick Rose
coming back before tax day, he will have plenty of time to work himself into playing shape before the playoffs. With Rose in the line-up, match-ups with New York and Indiana don't look so intimidating (Butler on Melo will "knick" their scoring opportunities). This will enable Reinsdorf to go to the bank with two big time ticket rivals before facing the Heat
in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Bulls have tried the #1 seed thing, only to fail the last two years. With recent loses, they can slide into the sixth seed and wait to see Miami in the conference finals. An inside source also hinted at a long layoff for Joakim Noah
and his foot problems. Ten more days without his double double will secure a lower seed.
Seeds don't matter when it comes to May and the Bulls have finally wised up. They are a match-up nightmare for Miami with the physical play of Noah, Gibson, and Butler. The subtraction of Kyle Korver
and CJ Watson with Butler and Hinrich is just the gritty type of attitude that will get under Miami's skin and test their toughness.
Days when teams tanked games were supposedly over with the Lottery, but the Bulls have made some questionable moves and decisions that has them losing games. Look at their 6-7 March record, it seems that Thibodeau is getting wise just at the right time.
