Ric Bucher who has become a veritable mouthpiece for Rose's reps dropped a "tease" during Friday's espn radio show. Asked what player the Bulls can bring in over the next couple of years who will seriously upgrade the roster, Bucher said he's heard of "one name" from Rose's group, a power forward who can shoot. Immediately asked whether this player is Kevin Love, he emphatically said no. Now, here, I'd like to venture a guess who that player is.
Really, not very difficult if you realize that NBA is a network of player-agent-owner relationships, and the agent that matters to the Bulls is Arn Tellem. He is, for example, responsible for two of the biggest free agent signings (abominations) over the last ten years. Ben Wallace (who switched to Tellem just prior to signing) and Carlos Boozer. Viewed in this light, Asik vs. Gibson debate was really decided well in advance, when Gibson, another Tellem's client inked a generous extension. Rose is, of course, another client.
So in light of this, the player most likely being talked about is Al Horford. A little surprising at first, since he's tied to Atlanta for four more years, one has to realize Atlanta is entering a total rebuild. How else would you explain letting two of your best players walk (or about to walk) for free. Ferry wants his team to bottom out, will he be able to do that with players like Teague and Horford still on the roster? Chicago can offer Mirotic and Charlotte's pick, both still a few years away. Ferry's connection to the Spurs provides an interesting subplot, but that's a topic for another post
