Per SB Nation trade rumor dump via Wojnarowski, Ben Gordon has disrespected his coach, Mike Dunlap.
As Dunlap led the Bobcats in a morning shootaround on Monday before a victory over the Celtics, Gordon refused Dunlap's request to stop bouncing a ball as the coach spoke, sources said. Before long, Gordon began baiting Dunlap, telling him that he needed to "humble himself," sources said.
Gordan refused to give the ball to Dunlap, and eventually tossed it toward a ball rack, sources said.
The Bobcats would have suspended him but they do not want to hurt his trade value. If they can find a taker they will move him.
The time to buy is when blood is running on the streets. I am not sure whether or not there is bad blood between Ben Gordon and the organization, but we could probably pick him up in a very favorable deal after all of this. That said, he really comes off like a punk in the above scenario so do we really want this kind of jerk in our locker room?
It was mentioned in the previous trade thread but it is very possible to engineer a Nets/Chicago/Charlotte trade if Brooklyn is game to take on Boozer's contract. A trade centered on Hump to the Bobcats, BG to the Bulls and Boozer to the Nets is very workable (assuming smaller contracts are thrown in). Given this rumor, BG's value has never been lower and we could probably pick up some desirable assets while we do it (we could probably get some young bigs to fill out our rotation, in particular). The question is whether or not Ben Gordon's career is truly salvageable at this point.
