While I was watching the Chicago Bulls vs. OKC game last night I began to think a lot about the present Bulls team. Many fans and sportswriters have ideas on how to fix this Bulls team since Rose went down. Some say trade Deng and gather assets for the future, some say stay the course, and some even say to trade multiple pieces such as Noah, Deng, Dunleavy, Teague, and Butler. The D.Rose injury has sparked many ideas about what's next for the Bulls. However, I want to look at what I think the worst part of this D.Rose injury is
It was a only a few seasons ago that Derrick Rose was the youngest MVP ever. It was only a few seasons ago that the Bulls won 62 games and dominated the Eastern Conference. This team was poised to become the best Bulls team since the Jordan era. Derrick Rose was the best point guard in the NBA, Luol Deng was/is a top 5 small forward, Noah was a gritty defensive monster that brought energy and heart to every game and Boozer although a bit inconsistent was considered the best complement to these players. This team was suppose to be great and bring a championship to Chicago.
This team was deemed as the best team in NBA. This team was pegged as Miami's biggest threat. This was the most balanced and tough minded team in the association. With a great coach, great players and a great city behind them . This was supposed to be Chicago's time. Their opportunity to create a new era, a new dynasty.
A torn ACL and meniscus later and the previous statement couldn't be further from the truth. The Bulls look defeated and lost. The current roster looks more like a team destined for the lottery than a championship. Rumored conflict between the front office and Thibs has been ongoing since the summer. This so called conflict has led to rumors about Thibs quitting or even possibly going to coach the Knicks. Trade rumors are swirling around this team like ice cream on a cone. Admittedly, as a die hard Bulls fan its a little disheartening to see. This team went from the best team in the NBA to somewhat dysfunctional.
The perception of the Bulls has changed, Teams no longer fear their defense, teams are beginning to play them lightly and take them lightly. The Bulls are looked at as automatic W's to great teams and not competition any longer. Even the public perception of Derrick Rose has changed. The humble hometown kid that everyone had once loved has turned into a selfish soft money pit.
The Derrick Rose injury has put the Bulls organization in bad place. It has created much conflict and rumors about this team. While that is terrible in itself. The worst part of his injuries is that Bulls fans were never able to see the best team since the Jordan era work together and win a championship. We were not able see to see this core reach its full potential. The chance for a dynasty ended before it even had a chance to begin,
