The Bulls only have three big men. Simply put, that's not enough, especially if, heaven forbid, they suffer an injury. They could really, really use a backup center so that Joakim doesn't have to be run out for 40 minutes a night. In the hoopla of the big Rudy Gay trade from yesterday, it was revealed that Memphis dealt little-used center Hamed Haddadi to the Raptors (who will be waiving him).
Haddadi has not gotten much playing time in 5 seasons in the NBA, but when he has played, he has been competent. In his 800+ career minutes, Haddadi has put up a 13.9 PER and a .091 WS/48. That's slightly below average, but it's about right for a backup center, and would be a massive improvement over the terribleness that is Nazr Muhammed's rotting corpse. Haddadi's regularized adjusted-plus minus numbers paint the same picture of a pretty average player. He's put up a -.1 this year and a -.3 the previous year, in very limited minutes. It's probably not wise to put much stock into those numbers on their own, but in conjunction with his career numbers, it seems about right. Haddadi is a very big center (he's 7'2", over 250 lbs) and he blocks shots at a very high clip. Sprinkle a little Thibs dust on him, and I think he could definitely be a suitable backup to Noah for 10 minutes a night. He was squeezed out in Memphis by their glut of very talented bigs, but the Bulls have a hole left by Asik and I think Haddadi would fit perfectly within it.
