With Carlos Boozer's renaissance (aka the Boozissance, according to thekillerwhale), most teams looking at a playoff run would hold onto him. But who are we kidding? To defend the championship which has historically been ours, 11 time financial champions Jerry "SeeRed Auerbach" Reinsdorf and Gar "Russell" Forman will take the necessary steps.
Can't completely blame it on money though, because as much as I love Booze's play right now, throughout his career, he has been the king of consistency at inconsistency, especially come playoff time. As previously noted, there is that massive contract and also a competent PF in Taj waiting in the wings (Taj seems to have picked it up this month, averaging 9.4 points and 6.4 boards on 55% shooting this month). Plus, with Booz there's always the dreaded injury while playing well that the Cavs suffered with Varajao.
Although his contract was deemed immovable, with his recent play, that might have changed slightly. If Booz stays, the tax bill for next year could be huge, and it would be very hard to resign Deng. Why amnesty when you can maybe get back something of value?
Here are some unspecific ideas as to what can be done with Booze (obviously other than keeping him for the playoffs)
1. Trade for a backup PF/C and a lottery pick in this years draft, so Taj starts. The 2013 draft is deep in the wings, with Ben McLemore being compared to a young Ray Allen.
2. Trade for a star: Kevin Love is injured and unhappy. Dwight is playing shitty though his numbers don't show it, and will be a FA. We can throw in the CHA pick, our first rounder and/or Mirotic for either. Gasol's numbers and play are both shitty. Rudy gay is about to be moved, but we don't have much use for him.
3. Gamble in the 2014 draft. Trade him for an unprotected lotto pick in the 2014 draft (might have to take back some salary). 2 potential franchise players in andrew wiggins and jabari parker, and both at the wing positions. seems like the basketball gods did everything right except making the bulls terrible enough. If the Bulls cam move up in this draft using Booz, the top-10 protected CHA pick and our first rounder, I'd be all in for it.
