Aggrey Sam at CSNChicago:

According to sources familiar with the situation, the fan favorite is in line to join Tom Thibodeau's coaching staff for the upcoming season, CSNChicago.com has learned.

...former Bulls assistant coach Rick Brunson departed for a position with the Charlotte Bobcats in the offseason...it appears that Scalabrine is now a front-runner for the spot.

As Sam later notes, Scal not only has his two-year stint in Chicago, but a previous relationship in Boston where Thibs was an assistant himself.

He long stopped being useful as a player, as even last season when he was re-signed it was more for his coaching ability than anything. The Bulls actually need some production from that roster spot, which goes to Vlad Radmanovic I guess, and Scal can now appropriately wear a suit. We'll see how long it takes before fans at the United Center realize he won't be coming into the game.
