As we already know, D-Rose is done for most, if not all of 2012-13 and Marquis Teague showing so far in the D-League that he is as useful as I am out on the basketball court (I kid, of course, I'm much better than him. Don't worry, I'm only joking, no need to get your knickers in a knot) so we need a viable guard option. "But, we've got Cpt. Kirk, right?!" Without sounding mean, or slandering any of our players; Kirk was next to useless offensively last year, and considering we have a finished Rip Hamilton and probably a beyond lackluster Marco Bellineli as our ONLY back court scoring options, we are going to need a point guard or a shooting guard who can get to the hole effectively and productively.
So, I propose, we can use Kirk as a starting point guard who can play as an above-average defender with little nothing offered on the offensive end, and bringing in Gilbert Arenas to play a combo guard role. In 2009-10, where he started 32 games at Washington, without John Wall, he was able to muster 22.6 PPG and 7.6 APG and in 2010-11, he was able to achieve a slightly less 17.3 PPG and 5.6 APG, starting at SG with John Wall at PG. But, what does this mean in the long run? It means, our Bulls may have a solid starting SG and possible back up PG, if Kirk goes down, with Rip able to step into the starting SG.
Yes, Gilbert Arenas isn't exactly a hot free agent at the moment, but, if he can return to some form he had in Washington, he may be able to be a versatile combo guard we can use for at least this season whilst D-Rose is sitting. But, he's not going to expensive, he's still got some good basketball to offer and he will help our depleted back court.
