The chances of the Brooklyn Nets acquiring a second superstar to pair with Deron Williams disappeared by them not acquiring the number one pick. We know Deron Williams have told the Nets that it is either Howard or bust. Just last week Gerald Wallace opted out of his final year of his contract. As of right now I believe the Nets have only $9.4 million committed towards 2013.
I know that there have been rumors about trading Deng to create cap flexibility. Boozer’s contract is just plain awful. But honestly, even if we kept everybody I don’t think we have enough to win a championship with this roster. There’s no question that Derrick Rose is the best point guard in the league. But Deron Williams is pretty damn good too. So here is my crazy trade proposal.
Why the Nets do it. Well Derrick Rose could pretty much lead this starting lineup to the best record in the league for two straight seasons. You are pretty much replacing Rose with Williams. The Nets are desperate. They lost their number 1 pick and don’t want to lose Williams. They are heading to Brooklyn and want to make a splash their first season. I don’t think they are other superstars that they can acquire to make Deron Williams happy. Well, I’m not sure if Deron will approve but I think this is the best the Nets can do to try and convince him. They have an owner that I think will be willing to spend. Plus I’m not sure if they are allowed to make this trade and resign all their free agents. But if they are, I know their owner will throw money at Williams and Wallace to resign. They will go over the cap but I think their owner will be willing to spend for a winner.
Why the Bulls do it: I know, I know, sounds crazy to gut the team. But if the Nets want Deng and Noah then they have to take Boozer. I know we are receiving little in return but the Bulls will be getting rid of almost $37 million. That’s a lot committed on three players that won’t lead you to a title. I don’t mind losing Boozer, and Deng has reached its peak. Noah is the one that I will hate to see leave but if we can clear the cap space then he has to be included. Brook Lopez will be able to man the center position. With all the cap space we can resign Taj and Asik. In two years our front court can be Lopez, Gibson, Asik and Mirotic. Also, we will have the money to bring back Watson, Brewer and Korver to fill out the roster. Since they will be on their final year then they will make great trading assets to contenders. We will obviously be tanking the season so we should have a high draft pick next year. Not only that but we should have money to offer a max deal to a player like James Harden. I know this is crazy and will never happen but I just want to see what you guys think.
