Bulls trade Luol Deng and #29 to Toronto, Ronnie Brewer to Dallas;
Dallas trades #17 pick and Shawn Marion to Bulls;
Toronto trades #8 pick to Bulls and Jimmy Johns to Dallas.
Dallas does this trade to get rid of Marion’s contract and make a run at Deron Williams. Toronto is reportedly looking for a veteran, defense-minded 3. I’m also guessing having Deng will look a lot more appealing when they try to make a run at Nash.
And the Bulls are trying to win the cost saving championship. This trade would save about $4 million a year by replacing Deng’s contract with Marion which they could use to keep CJ. We also get some young players to replace Brewer and Korver in the rotation. Lineup would be -
CJ / JL3 / (Rose)
Hamilton / Waiters (#8 pick)
Marion / Butler / Quincy Miller (#18) (Perry Jones maybe, looking for a high ceiling guy)
Boozer / Taj
Noah / Asik
In a year or so when Mirotic comes over and Boozer has been amnestied the team looks like -
Rose / back up pg
Waiters / Butler
Marion / Q. Miller
Taj / Mirotic
Noah / Asik
Young, athletic and plenty of trade pieces to chase that future star. A mini-teardown, but a chance to turn it around quickly. This all of course is based on the assumption that the Bulls would entertain a Deng trade.
