I'm going to try to make this post short and sweet. The premise here is that the Bulls need a short-term fix for next season to help them be competitive and hopefully make a deep run into the play-offs while Derrick Rose recovers and rehabs...
First, I'm going to propose the Bulls trade Carlos Boozer to Dallas for Lamar Odom and Vince Carter. No, I'm not crazy, I'm not high on crack or pot... I'm very serious. Why do this? Because it will only cost them 2.4 Million to buy out Lamar Odom and they get to save that amnesty clause. They get some veteran depth at shooting guard, we know they are going to keep Rip Hamilton, so bringing in a top tier SG isn't going to happen. Vince gives them some depth and can back up Deng at Small Forward as well. Plus he is cheap and only has 2 years left on his contract after that and can be bought out cheap.
This clears the way for the Bulls to go after a more athletic defensive minded power forward. Boozer did OK for us but for a team that's predicated on defense, he just didn't fit in with the rest of the other puzzle pieces.
Next, the Bulls sign Steve Nash to fill in for Rose for a year. Nash wants to win one badly, right now he's talking Heat. Well he could come in to Chicago, start for the Bulls, give them some veteran leadership and a starting caliber PG. He plays the starter role for a year and then backs up Rose when Rose comes back. He may not be the scorer that Rose was but he can fill the void in other ways.
As far as Power Forwards go, I say bring in KG as backup and maybe go after Kaman, Gerald Wallace, Jefferson, who knows, there are a lot of options out there. I think KG would be a good piece to add as a backup though.
This could put the Bulls in a good spot for next year but not lock them into something that is too long term.
