I haven't seen enough of Jimmy Butler to have much insight into his offensive strengths and weaknesses. He is listed as a guard/forward on the roster and he would seem to be quite adept and athletic enough to handle defensive responsibilities for SG/SF and perhaps more. It has been my impression that Butler is a pretty natural SF offensively; lacking the stronger ball handling/passing/range skills I think are more necessary from the SG position in the total scheme of our present offense.
I think a line-up of Rose/Butler/Deng/Gibson/Noah could be very special defensively; but I'm not sure if that offense would be good enough to outscore any defensive gains. His shooting stats must improve from 40%(ts) 18%(3pt) in 8mins/game/42games; in order to get any consideration for extended time spent with that line-up on the floor. Can his shooting, ball handling, and instincts be developed over the next few offseasons to be our SG of the future? Also let me know if I am over-rating his defensive potential.
