There seems to be a lot of discussion about what we should do this coming season. I think we need to rebuild the team around a core of Rose, Noah, Taj, Butler, and Asik. The rest of the team is totally expendable in my opinion with Deng being the best chip we have and probably the only player we have that could net us a lottery pick. Boozer, Hamilton, and the 3 expiring contracts could net us some additional assets as well. If we did this, we could have the aforementioned core, a lottery pick, Miritic, and the Bobcats pick in the next 3 years. We could also potentially net a mid round or lottery draft pick in the 2013 draft depending on how we performed next season. We could also give ourselves much needed cap flexibility.
We have two templates to follow:
Thunder
or
Hawks.
The Thunder moved Ray Allen when it wasnt popular and got under the cap ultimately landing Durant, Westbrook, and Harden.
The Hawks overpaid average to slightly above average players to make the playoffs every year, but they will never be a true contender.
What are your thoughts?
Would you rather be a true contender and take some risks, or make the playoffs every year and be the Atlanta Hawks?
