I've always respected Perk's game.

He’s a hard nosed motherfucker and I love that he said this publicly.

by dakoose on Feb 8, 2012 2:45 PM CST reply actions

Yeah I figure that was more pulled out of him than anything. But still, you don’t think they try to get shit like that out of Kobe and Rose?
I don’t mind the quote at all actually. I figured, like you, that he was pressed into it. But it still is what it is. Got him attention for being a bit of a douche and playing games in the media.

by metalkiwis on Feb 8, 2012 3:59 PM CST up reply actions

Yes, but unfortunately, a little bit of KG has rubbed off on him.

Supporter of Carlos Austin Boozer, and I don't want to see Dwight Howard in a Bulls uniform. Call me crazy.

by wrigleyrocker12 on Feb 8, 2012 4:30 PM CST up reply actions

Unfortunately for you, not for me.

i absolutely love KG. His game, his attitude, his trash talk, I love all that stuff.

by dakoose on Feb 8, 2012 4:40 PM CST up reply actions

I respect KG's attitude and his fire.

The fact that you shouldn’t be friends with your opponent at all. But, I think he definitely goes about that the wrong way, especially since he’s come to the C’s.

Supporter of Carlos Austin Boozer, and I don't want to see Dwight Howard in a Bulls uniform. Call me crazy.

Ugh, are you serious?

He’s the ultimate “hold me back” guy.

by JeffD on Feb 8, 2012 6:09 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

You can count the connected punches in NBA history on one hand.

This league is not a fighters league and singling out KG for that is silly. KG plays as physical and intense a brand of basketball as anybody. Whether or not he’s willing to throw down doesn’t change that.

by dakoose on Feb 9, 2012 9:44 AM CST up reply actions

NBA History goes back farther than 1991.

Punches used to be thrown with regularity, until the penalties got super-severe (minimum two games for just throwing one). Barkley threw punches, Bird threw punches, hell, Kareem even broke his hand on Kent Benson’s face.

by dolemitejr on Feb 11, 2012 9:15 PM CST up reply actions

I didn't say he was that good.

I just respect the way he plays. Real tough, hard nosed defender and he’s just an old-school, mean kind of guy.

by dakoose on Feb 8, 2012 9:18 PM CST up reply actions

Just like he said

You don’t see Kobe complain about LeBrons tweets. If you’re an elite player, things like that don’t excite you. At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about what anyone else is tweeting.

by metalkiwis on Feb 8, 2012 3:13 PM CST reply actions

I like that he said

Lebron is basically an attention whore and wants everyone to like him. I’m with Perkins on this one. Lebron doesn’t have as many rings as Perkins the last time I checked.

I agree with the quote

But I am not a pro athlete trying to be the best at my game that I can be. Was just stating that he could use some of his own advice. Shut up and worry about your game.

by metalkiwis on Feb 8, 2012 4:01 PM CST up reply actions

True

but since Lebron is seem to be “The Best” all around player in the league, it’s only right for him to defend himself.

I get that people get sick of him

But I think that is just one small thing that differentiates us from the athletes we perceive as great. The ability to not look like a regular human with flaws.
I guess it is hard to tell the guy shut up when it’s something we all want to say to him.

Props to Perk. He went for the block, knowing there's a chance he would get posterized.

Lebron wouldn’t have even thought about going up. I think the media just blows things out of proportion, especially with Blake’s Dunks. I mean he’s a great leaper and all, but there have been other great dunks in the past and they fade away eventually. And Lebron has to add that little “Looks like I’ve moved down to no. 2.” Really Lebron? Your dunk wasn’t that impressive to begin with. In my view Lebron is pretty over rated with his dunks. I mean he can get high, but there’s no creativity with his dunks.

On the J.R. Smith bandwagon until otherwise advised.

by BlackStar on Feb 8, 2012 4:24 PM CST reply actions   2 recs

His dunks are just powerful, but they're stiff.

DRose would shit on Lebron in a dunk contest.

And for the record, Blake’s 2 best dunks aren’t even dunks, he threw them in the hoop. They’re impressive, but they’re not dunks.

by dakoose on Feb 8, 2012 4:29 PM CST up reply actions   2 recs

so is any made shot. if your hand/arm never touch rim, its probably not a dunk. griffin's last "dunk" was like howard's superman "dunk", in that it was not really a dunk at all.

"A household is a business given over to caring for small, temporarily insane people, a business subject to cash-flow problems, endless legal harassments, run by people who expect to have sex with each other, who occupy the same space, and who go nuts when either party has sex with anyone else. Once in marriage, a lot of people try to get out as fast as religious tradition, poverty, or devotion to children permits.""

by TheMoon on Feb 8, 2012 11:27 PM CST up reply actions

I disliked that dunk

Because of the praise it had…But Griff re-killed the dunk contest

by T.Moore on Feb 9, 2012 1:52 PM CST up reply actions

No, that's what a shot is.

A dunk typically involves a hand touching the rim in at least some capacity.

by dakoose on Feb 9, 2012 9:45 AM CST up reply actions

so then the vc elbow dunk isnt a dunk either

the dwight howard superman dunk, that is more arguable as not being a dunk. If it wasnt for perk trying his hardest to push blake, blakes dunk could have been an elbow dunk. Look at it, dudes up in the air, if he could extend his hand half an inch more this conversation would be moot. Call it a dunk or whatever, its one of the most athletic displays of putting the ball in the hoop this year…and its definitely praise worthy

That's just ridiculous.

VC elbow was in the rim, you’re taking my definition too literally. A player should at least touch the rim in some capacity for it to be a dunk.

by dakoose on Feb 9, 2012 3:07 PM CST up reply actions

To be fair Griif did touch the rim

Barely….Imo people calling that one o fthe best dunks ever…Didn’t see Pipp teabagging Ewing and telling Spike to “Sit your ass down”

yea i think its praise worthy

and maybe a top 20 dunk of all time (thus far), but i dont think its the best. I do think it was a far more amazing display of athleticism than lebrons jump over lucas.

VC and windmills

I think Vince Carter was a creative dunker with his windmills. LeDouche can’t and won’t get to that level dunkwise.

Perkins also still bitches about getting traded.

He’s less valuable than Kurt Thomas at this point and acts like he’s in the worst situation in the league.

by Ozzie Montana on Feb 9, 2012 12:26 PM CST up reply actions

I'd like to side with neither, if possible (though I do abhor LeBron James).

While Perkins, by engaging at all, doesn’t look great, it’s also obvious that James entirely missed the actual significance of what Perkins said. Perkins wasn’t embarrassed about being dunked upon: he’s very clear about that (though I guess you’re free to debate whether he’s earnest or not). Judging from his actual statement, Perkins just thought that LeBron sounded like a vainglorious, absolutely and totally self-absorbed, oblivious-to-everyone-else little twit in his tweet — and I think it’s a bit hard to argue with that sentiment when he says shit such as, “Wow! I guess I’m No. 2 now.”

by jpx7 on Feb 9, 2012 12:51 PM CST up reply actions

And, don't forget

LeBron manages to make himself look even more childish and self-absorbed (as well as not at all self-aware) in his retort:

You could be watching cartoons with your kids and you don’t like it, you say, ‘Blame it on LeBron.’ If you go to the grocery store and they don’t have the milk that you like, you just say, ’It’s LeBron’s fault.’

Well damn: my heart is just a torrent of sympathy for his plight.

by jpx7 on Feb 9, 2012 12:54 PM CST up reply actions

i also find it hilarious

that just because lebron doesn’t want something, if he says it therefore it is. he doesn’t want to be the villian anymore guys!! guess he isn’t one?? no… people still hate him.

It really is the relentless self-aggrandizement that makes him so eminently hateable.

But people have been telling him he’s the “king” of shit since he was about ten years old, so it isn’t like we should be surprised.

by jpx7 on Feb 9, 2012 2:33 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly

I loathe the guy as much as anybody but can you really expect anything different considering the life he’s lived? It’s not entirely his fault that he’s a douche.

by Survival Impaired on Feb 9, 2012 4:39 PM CST up reply actions

Eh....anytime he wanted he could have said

“stop calling me king.” DRose wasn’t hyped as hard as Lebron, but he also had high school games on national TV and was pushed heavily in college. Through it all he’s stayed humble and whenever anyone called him MVP before he got the award he would tell them to quit calling him that. Lebron has just embraced it; he even got dressed in robes and wore a crown for a Slam magazine cover.

This ain’t some Arab country, like Sheed said, “aint no Kings in Detroit,” same goes for the USA.

by dakoose on Feb 9, 2012 4:47 PM CST up reply actions

Well my point is more about how he was raised

Obviously Derrick was raised to be humble and not to let his talent go to his head. There was probably a turning point where each could have gone either way. At a certain age when their talent became apparent Derrick’s family kept him grounded and never let him act like he was better than everyone. His talent was a blessing for a poor family and should be treated as such. However, it seems Lebron’s family took that talent as something he was owed and that it made him better than everyone. I mean, did Derrick’s mom buy him a hummer? It’s just very likely a fundamental difference in the way they each were raised.

by Survival Impaired on Feb 9, 2012 6:04 PM CST up reply actions

how was dwayne wade raised?

how was durant raised? How was howard raised? Its not like those guys werent being heralded early in their career, just cuz they didnt have a name that could cleverly be added to KING didnt mean they didnt have huge entitlement issues coming out of high school, its not like they go around flaunting it like morons, at least nowhere near the level of lebron james. Lebrons a grown ass man, theres plenty of articles written by guys like woj that talk about his character flaws, and if he still isnt able to figure out how to balance out his personality..well…IT IS lebrons fault.

by piccolomair on Feb 9, 2012 6:45 PM CST up reply actions

I just think he's lived this life for so long

where he could never do anything wrong that it’s just ingrained in his head now. Obviously at this point it is his fault that he can’t figure out why people hate him but I was just trying to point out how it probably began. He had people tell him since he was a kid that he was the greatest ever. Then he got drafted to a city that completely idolized him and an organization that bent over backward for him. At what point was he supposed to learn humility? The logical answer would be as a child, just like Derrick and probably Durant, Wade, and Howard. I’m not trying to give him a pass here, I’m just saying the problem is probably a lot more deeply rooted than just that he’s an idiot. He’s been told something for 20 some years of his life and suddenly expected to stop? Why? What tangible repercussions has he faced for the way he acts? Some fans boo him? So what? He still makes millions a year and has 99% of the media slobber all over him. What would make him change?

Look I hate the guy as much as anyone on BaB, and it probably sounds like I’m defending him here but I’m really just taking a shot at his fragile, warped little mind.

by Survival Impaired on Feb 9, 2012 8:14 PM CST up reply actions

hmm

Some fans boo him? So what?

thats probably exactly why, he seems to care about things like that, and if he wants it to stop, its not gonna come from tweeting, its going to come from a sudden increase in demeanor and humility.

by piccolomair on Feb 9, 2012 10:39 PM CST up reply actions

I agree

He probably does care about that stuff but he never really experienced it until last year. He was nowhere near as despised as he is now until “The Decision.” I just don’t think he’s capable of the change he would need to make simply because of how he has lived his life for so long. At this point it’s just who he is.
