Sad Bogans

I don't know if anyone saw this article about Bogans' release in the Trib earlier today, but I genuinely felt for the guy. Not sure if this has any relevance to the squad as they continue to be one of the most consistently awesome teams in the league (perhaps more so in the beginning of the season), but it was interesting to hear from Bogans after an awkward beginning to the season followed by not thinking about him again.

Those 15 guys I was in the locker room with were all my brothers, I formed a bond with them that I probably haven’t formed with another team that I’ve played on. That was like my family. All those guys reached out to me when I got released. They were genuinely hurt when I didn’t come back. DRose, Joakim (Noah), Luol (Deng), all reached out and asked me what’s going on. I didn’t have an answer for them.

I had one of the best seasons I’ve played and that was one of the best teams I’ve played on. It was a great experience. I wouldn’t trade it. I loved playing for Tom (Thibodeau). He’s a great coach with my style, defense first. I don’t know why they waived me. I get upset every time I talk about it.”

D'awwww. Sorry Keith, it was a business move.

Jets, Cowboys, Mets, Islanders, Bulls & Clippers

to him, yeah

his defense was very efficient.

You can’t expect Bogans to be anything other than a defensive-minded 2; and that’s exactly what the Bulls received. More power to him

Dude, you are a journeyman. At this point in your career, you should know that you should only be renting not buying. Did he really think he was a core player here?

Keith has no reason to whine

The Bulls had no obligation to pick up his contract. Sorry Keith, but it’s a business.

That said, I still don’t get why we didn’t keep him. He only would’ve cost another $1.7 mil, and it definitely would’ve been nice to have him at the end of the bench.

Pat Riley is the devil.

they could have released him earlier

he mentions the possibility of signing w/ spurs if the bulls had acted sooner. Really Keith Bogans did everything we asked of him last year, played hurt, never complained, and we thanked him by waiving him a week before the season started. I hated having him on our team, but we definitely could have cut him earlier and let him sign somewhere else.

Yeah, I think he's more upset over the way the Bulls did it.

It’s not like they didn’t know they were gonna get another sg. They could have at least warned him.

Supporter of Carlos Austin Boozer, and I don't want to see Dwight Howard in a Bulls uniform. Call me crazy.

They could've, but they were under no obligation to

If the Rip thing had fallen through, the Bulls would’ve been fucked. It’s Bogans’s agent’s fault for negotiating such a shitty deal and allowing the Bulls to leave him in limbo for a week.

Pat Riley is the devil.

well yes and no

the way the options were because of the shortened season was the shitty part. if we had had a normal offseason, rip may very well have gotten released right away and then he would have had months to find another team without going into the season. either that or maybe he doesn’t get released and the bulls are forced to keep bogans because they don’t sign anyone else (although i find that unlikely).

but yeah, they obviously kept him in case rip somehow backed out. it sucked, but it was the hectic one month offseason that caused the problem…

I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

Yeh they kinda dragged their feet on releasing him which did fuck up some opportunities he had. I can understand that gripe.

The irony is that

He’s basically saying he’d rather be in Portland, which is a bit of an F-you to the Nets, although I’m sure they’re already well aware of the undesirability of playing there, Dwight Howard’s dumb ass aside.

alternate reality

I wonder if Thibs had played him as a back-up and only for 10 minutes a game, if he wouldn’t have been a fan favorite as the guy who comes in and takes hard fouls on the other team’s hot scorer. I mean, he was signed to be the third off guard at just a fraction over the veteran’s salary minimum.

Instead, he got off to the rough shooting start (which he more than made up for later) and basically was the face of the franchise’s shortcomings since he was certainly a below average (polite term) starting 2 guard. I won’t say it was unfair to him though. The guy did make more money last year than I’ve made in the last 10, probably never pays for a meal in a restaurant, and considering his ugly mug, probably has more than a few quite attractive female admirers. I guess I’d say he should just deal with it, poor guy.

yeah, i mean his role was not what he was originally signed for

not his fault of course, and he does seem like a cool dude. so it’s like i do feel a little bad that they waited till the last second to cut him but it also didn’t help that the offseason was only a few weeks… though i’m actually surprised that it took that long for someone to pick him up.

ouch
The New Jersey Nets confirmed Monday that shooting guard Keith Bogans will miss the rest of the season after undergoing successful surgery to repair a torn deltoid ligament and fractured left ankle at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

The team said Bogans is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of training camp in 2012-13.

I love seasons too. That's why I live in a place that skips the shitty ones.

If he could score more than 6 points a game

He might still be on the team. I really don’t care about Bogans boo whooing. I was disappointed in Thomas leaving than him.
