They have two Celtics (Pierce, Rondo) and also include Jennings and Iggy while not even listing Deng in their "snubs" list.

I can see the argument

For Pierce, just because Luol’s been hurt more. Pierce once he rounded into shape started doing the Paul Pierce thing and Boston started winning….when he does that he’s simply better than Luol Deng (Esp in the numbers). Luol’s one of those if everything falls right all stars, not a superstar, and had he not been injured he’d be there for sure this year since it was all falling right.

Pierce has that “lifetime” achievement thing going for him that could give him the rep.

Now Rondo? I picked him…even with the injuries, he’s there best player htis year.

I would pick the following East Reserves (in this order):
1) Josh Smith (he probably should have been the starter over Melo and Melo would be my reserve)
2) Deron Williams – I hate him, but he is good.
3) Chris Bosh – having a better year this year than last, still an Ostrich
4) Andre Iguodala – a 76er should make it and he’s their best, even if he’s more one of those borderline all stars.
5) Roy Hibbert – Noah’s slow start and Hibbert’s consistent Start gave Hibbert the Noah spot.
6) Brandon Jennings – sure he can’t defend a turtle, but his scoring’s been prolific and he’s finally shooting well, so he gets it for the eletric offense, and he’s the only guy making Milwaukee borderline watchable right now.
7) Luol Deng – read below he’s probably 7th

Though I can see Pierce taking this spot, I could also understand Amare sneaking in in that achievement category (plus the game last week reminded all that Amare is still really friggin good and may be poised for a good second half) I guess I view all stars not only as who’s playing so well at x point in the year, but who would you rather have on your team to perform well in the next few months including a piece of what they’ve done so far, and I’d still talk Amare over Deng, etc mostly (not considering salary cap etc), but the Bulls homer in me has Deng., Joe Johnson’s always one of those borderline all stars—even though oddly he’s been a lock for a while now, he’s more a good to have borderline all star, and Greg Monroe needs some love as the only player in Detroit.

The kid's out of this world. He's got Allen Iverson speed, Jason Kidd's vision, Chauncey Billups' shooting ability and Michael Jordan's athleticism. How do you guard that? - Pacers coach Frank Vogel.

rondo was only the celtics best player when they sucked. now that they're winning its clearly

paul pierce.

rondo’s offense blows and he can only be the best player on a crap team.

i agree

pierce picked up and the celtics picked up. tough for me to find room for 2 celtics if we aren’t getting 2 guys in there.

Jennings? Iggy?

How many times their teams made the playoffs?
Deng was there and stayed there before rose was in the league

by JustAnotherFan on Feb 7, 2012 12:52 PM CST up reply actions

My Picks

East Reserves: Bosh, Iguodala, Hibbert, Josh Smith, Peirce, Jennings, DWill

Snubs: Stoudamire, Fuck Rondo, Deng (sorry bros)

West Reserves: Westbrook, Parker, Al Jefferson, Aldridge, Love, Lowry, Nowitzki

Snubs: Ellis, Denver, Marc Gasol. Nash doesn’t count as a snub.

by JHBowden on Feb 6, 2012 1:20 PM CST reply actions

Nash shouldn't count as a snub because he should be a lock to make it. Lowry over Nash?!? That's just insane.

Here’s who it should be:
East: Bosh, Pierce, Irving, Jennings, Hibbert, Iguodala, DWill
West: Love, Aldridge, Westbrook, Nash, Marc Gasol, Millsap, Harden

Here’s who will probably get selected:
East: Bosh, Pierce, DWill, Jennings, Hibbert, Iguodala, Joe Johnson
West: Love, Aldridge, Westbrook, Nash, Marc Gasol, Dirk, Parker

The bottom line is that Lu probably deserves to be an All Star based on his all around game

and the fact that he plays on one of the best teams in the league, but no one, including him, should be surprised if he doesn’t make it.

He’s missed a few weeks, and besides that, his offensive numbers aren’t exactly jumping off the page. Historically the All Star game rewards offensive players. I’m sure he’ll get a bone thrown his way at the end of the year, making an All Defense team or something. And now that his name is out there like this, he’s a lock to be an All Star in the coming years. But I’ll have a hard time getting worked up about his omission this season

I don't know if he's a lock to come next year if he doesn't make it this year

Paul George is pretty damn good and getting better, and Greg Monroe is a should be in but his team sucks, and Kyrie Irving is already a should be all star.

I think next year the team could look like:
Rose
Wade
James
Anthony (b.s. starter pick maybe, but he is good and NY will see to it he’s there, and he’s at least a reserve)
Howard (if still in the East, or else it could be Noah/Hibbert/Bogut even)

With likely reserves
Deron Williams (if still in East)
Rondo
Irving
Monroe
George – I mean if he works with the team in the offseason and add’s to his right now blossoming game, look out, he’s alreayd a plus defender and getting better offensively and at 69ish.
Bosh

and a battle of the others:
Deng, Iggy, Noah or Hibbert or Bogut, Granger, Jennings, hell even Bargnani the way he’s been playing, and you never know

The kid's out of this world. He's got Allen Iverson speed, Jason Kidd's vision, Chauncey Billups' shooting ability and Michael Jordan's athleticism. How do you guard that? - Pacers coach Frank Vogel.

by majoyenrac on Feb 6, 2012 2:02 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, Deng deserves it and all

But I’d definitely rather he take the time off… I’m not even sure why they’re having an all-star game this year. With players dropping like flies all over the league, why would you risk extra injuries for an exhibition game?

by tuff-gong on Feb 6, 2012 3:21 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

+1

Stupid to have an All-Star game when you can’t even fit in normal rest for your players.

Just wondering, who gets the money form the All-Star game? Obviously the league, but does it get spread out to the other teams? Does the host city get the gate and the extra TV revenue?

I just want to know who is getting paid so we can sit through an All-Star break sandwiched by back-to-back-to-backs from every team in the league.

I don’t see how they can take in close to 4 billion annually, pay out less that 55% of that to their entire expenses (50 to the players and it can’t be too much for the rest of their employees and what little annually their stadiums break down to) and still claim a loss. Shit is mind boggling. Fuck the league.

by metalkiwis on Feb 7, 2012 8:11 PM CST up reply actions

This is a really interesting year for all-star voting

It seems like there are about a dozen guys who used to be perennial locks who suddenly started showing their age overnight. I hope the coaches don’t vote on rep, because we could have a lot of undeserving all-stars (even more than we usually do).

by Belize on Feb 6, 2012 5:28 PM CST reply actions

Man screw this

Luol deserves to go and I’m tired of hearing about this “But he was injured” crap. OK then Wade shouldn’t be going either then. Also, if there are two Celtics, two Hawks on this team, and three Heat on this team, then you might as well mail Rose the MVP now because I don’t care how historic Lebron’s year is, Rose is having a better year than last year and apparently carrying his injured riddled team to once again the best record in the NBA.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Feb 6, 2012 5:35 PM CST reply actions

No smarty

Because what exactly are you defining MVP by if you’re saying that the award should go to a guy playing with two other All-Stars over a guy who apparently is doing is on his own. I guess to me it’s the same argument as last year and why would the results change?

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Feb 7, 2012 4:06 PM CST up reply actions

Deng has a much better year than Iggy….ppl are entranced by Iggy’s superior athleticism. But Lu has scored more points, more boards and is at least as high level on D as Iggy if not even better(he can guard 4s too unlike Iguodala)

He’s played enough games to earn a trip

by C Smoove on Feb 6, 2012 11:01 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

It's close between Deng and Iggy

They both have similar roles as “glue” guys and being a secondary scorer and great defender. Deng scores more because he plays a lot more minutes and shoots more, but their per 36 scoring is very close. Iggy is shooting more efficiently. Both have identical rebounding numbers, but Iggy is way higher in assists as he’s also a playmaker for Philly. Both are great defensively and I can’t see any way to declare one better than the other in this area.

So if they’re effectively tied defensively, and Iggy clearly comes out ahead offensively, and add in the fact that Deng missed 7 games while Iggy hasn’t missed any, and that Philly has 4th best record in NBA and no other all stars… you just have to conclude that Iggy is more deserving this year.

by berzerkulous on Feb 7, 2012 9:23 AM CST up reply actions

yeah, it's super close

deng edges him by 2 pp36, but per 36 evens out their rebounding. iguodala is slightly more efficient this year, and passes more. but deng turns it over less despite having a higher usg. and fuck… andre is shooting 60% on FTs this season!! huge outlier from previous seasons. not that that really matters that much, but i mean that’s almost rondo territory lol.

and i don’t think that the philly having the 4th best record in the NBA and no other all stars counts more than us having the best record in the east with only 1 all star. we had a worse record with deng out than rose (part of that is the level of competition, but still).

My point is

My point is that a lot of people are saying that Deng deserves to be an all star because “yeah his numbers don’t look that great but that’s because he’s a glue guy and does a lot of little things and plays great defense – those don’t show up in the numbers. Plus, shouldn’t the best team in the league have more than 1 all star?” Which is dumb because you can say that exact same thing about Iggy.

by berzerkulous on Feb 7, 2012 9:48 AM CST up reply actions

yeah, i mean the argument is pretty equal

deng hasn’t been wayyy better than him, nor he over deng.

although i’m jaded from the time that the fans, coaches, and even stern refused to vote us an all star and we were the only team with a winning record without one. so i don’t really expect anything either way. the arguments could be made for a variety of people.

When you just say 2 p/36

It makes it sound like a smaller difference that it is. If it was like the difference between 19 and 21 p/36, yeah not a big deal, but we’re talking about the difference between 15.1 and 13.3 p/36. that’s a 13% increase.

Deng is deserving, but there are other players more deserving.

Pierce and Bosh are automatic locks. And I really can’t think of any reason that Iggy and Josh Smith aren’t more deserving than Deng. Just because someone is deserving and playing great doesn’t mean he can make it. There’s a limited number of spots.

Wow pierce? Really?!

His team sucks
And I will tell u why Deng should go and not iggy
Deng brought the bulls to the playoffs several times before rose came. They even went to round two.
What has iggy done?
And we know the past counts otherwise why did the celtics had so many last year?

All Deng-worthiness aside, can we all agree that the all-star game is the greatest waste of time ever conceived of by man?

I for one will not waste a weekend watching Dwight Howard dick around like an 8 year old.

Also, can you imagine if we traded for Howard? We would have to deal with his childish antics every game.

Also, I really dislike Blake Griffin. He is such an overrated punk. He cannot shoot a 12 foot jumpshot. He only cuts and dunks. He is essentially Ronnie Brewer with a shitty personality.

That is all.
