Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

They've put together a pretty nice team over there. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see them come out of the West.

I would be very surprised if they came out of the West

OKC, Denver and Portland are so much better than them and VDN still coaches them

But hey, they can fire him if they don’t make the finals and VDN would hang his hat on the idea that he improved the team from what it once was. Even if that meant drafting Blake Griffin and trading for Chris Paul

by Option27 on Feb 3, 2012 12:26 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Well, the VDN thing is certainly their achilles heel

But if there’s one player on the planet that can offset his monumental stupidity, it’s Chris Paul.

I wouldn’t make them the favorite, but I don’t see OKC as this juggernaut that can’t be stopped, and I have my doubts about how well the star-less Nuggets’ game will translate in the Playoffs. They basically have the same team as last year, and OKC handled them without too much difficulty

The West in my opinion, and to quote KG, is gonna be a bar fight.

Jesus fuck Chris Paul is about as overrated as LeBron. Almost.

hopefully not.

I think I’m getting sick of hearing about the guy or something. But he has never even been to a finals. Fuck even Iverson managed that.

by metalkiwis on Feb 3, 2012 9:28 PM CST up reply actions

dude calm down.

cp3 put up one of the greatest statistical seasons in nba history in his 3rd year in the league.

hes only in his 8th year in the league. the clipper team he has could easily make it to the finals in a year or two or maybe even this year if theyre lucky

By popular demand I am putting a moratorium on the Melo talk until the Knicks win the title in June.

by sin on Feb 4, 2012 3:21 AM CST up reply actions

cp3 in his prime is better than rose as of right now

rose can def match him one day, but cp3 was just amazing that yr. Imho, he got robbed of the mvp that year.

by Geo4MVP on Feb 4, 2012 3:47 PM CST up reply actions

I know. It was an amazing year. But that was a long time ago. He is not the same player now. He is still really good and has unbelievable court vision.
God I didn’t realize Paul was so young still. If I weren’t so certain of Donald Sterling’s ability to fuck this up, that would one scary team developing over there.
I think I will be over the hate whenever Derrick unquestionably passes him as a player.
I think if it weren’t for Mr. CP3 people wouldn’t criticize Rose’s MVP so much. I have heard “he’s not even the best point guard in the league” way too much. Fuck Chris Paul*. Where’s his hardware? MVP? Anything? Derrick already led a team being dragged down by 260lbs of useless muscle starting at the 4 and Keith “6 points” Bogans starting at the 2.
Honestly CP3 seems like a good dude and a solid teammate and is obviously very talented. I actually really liked him up until after Derrick won the MVP.

Oh, and Portland is a complete joke on the road

That’s a huge red flag to me

Portland is 3-9 on the road.

10-1 at home. Wow.

has everyone given up on dallas already?

second best D in the west and a decent road record. their offense will pick up if/when dirk gets healthy.

Yeah, that's another team that can make a move, for sure. Throw Memphis in there as well

I think the larger point is that the West truly is wide open

dont be surprised if the mavs make it to the western conf finals again

that team can heat it up in the right time and unlike the bulls and thunder, they are reserving energy for the playoffs and they will def go on a rampage by playoff time.

by Geo4MVP on Feb 4, 2012 2:06 AM CST up reply actions

im so scared of them getting dwight and deron next summer

nightmare trio. might mesh even better than the boston big 3

non update, really lol

Look
I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

the bulls would be stupid to not try going for smith

hes a game changer and i think he would put the bulls over the heat.

by Geo4MVP on Feb 4, 2012 2:05 AM CST up reply actions

how the fuck the clippers r gonna have room for smith

lmao, lob city are loaded in guards. on the other hand, thunder are loaded with harden, and the knicks r the only team that can probably snatch him besides us. Bulls do have room for smith and that would prob be based on splitting time with rip and taking away time from brewer and korver.

by Geo4MVP on Feb 4, 2012 2:01 AM CST up reply actions

What are you talking about? Bulls have way more 2-guards than the Clips

They don’t even start one, they start Billups. Randy Foye gets action there.

We can’t have it both ways saying that the Bulls are super deep compared to every team, yet is also the best FA option.

why not? probably the knicks are the best option for him in terms of guaranteed playing time, but

if he wants to play for a contender whose current crop of 2 guards smith could outplay and get serious minutes, i dont think the bulls would be a bad choice.

by TheMoon on Feb 4, 2012 12:43 PM CST up reply actions

i was going to expand on that actually...i would say since rip has those nagging injuries, you would have to limit him alot more when he returns

20 mins/game, and mix in with jr smith as the sg. Then, i expect the bulls to trade off either Brew or Korver since they are expiring contracts. Once we take care of that, smith will get plenty of action as either a sg/sf.
