Deng joked about not knowing the All-Star Game protocol.

"No, I’ll talk to Derrick about that," he said. "I don’t know how it goes, that’s the honest truth. Am I supposed to play ‘D’? I don’t know."

Kobe will try to get another MVP but Deng will shut him down. MVP will go to Deng with Kobe getting 0 points

but last night I had a dream that Toronto was beating Boston 100 to 40 at halftime. Right now they are on pace to be beating Boston 50 to 20 at the half.

lakers suck so damn hard…..pau started yesterdays game soft, and started this game soft. Chandler is striking fear into the heart of bynum, kobe is…..sleeping? And the lakers are making lin look like a fucking stud. This is gonna be the new tebow, and that sucks, cuz lin is a good guy, good player…but some of these teams are gonna make people think hes fucking steve nash. This comes back to poloplaya’s point about bball being better than football, because football has only 16 games, a guy like tebow can go an entire season fooling everyone, but lins gonna come down to earth real quick if he plays a team like the bulls

lin can't guard anyone

but in that system, if he doesn’t turn the ball over too much, he’ll be good.

The real challenge for lin will be when Carmelo and Amare come back and he has to play off the ball. Right now he gets to dribble for 10 seconds and run the offense. When Carmelo comes back – he runs the offense. D’Antoni must hate him.

by Basketball Smurf on Feb 10, 2012 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

i honestly cant really evaluate lin

he just seems like a good pg to me. He doesnt suck, but i dont see anything at all-star level. I hated how fisher was like going under screens and shit, and let lin go off. Its like dude, you should go out there and show the young gun he’s not there yet…instead you just allowed the enemy to just build a huge moral boost and got the crowd into the game….veteran savy…not this time

Watching the lakers the last two games really makes me appreciate how good the bulls are defensively and offensively.

That when the Bulls blowout a bad team it’s no big deal but when Miami loses to a bad team or play them close, it’s OK because they’re bored but they’re still the best team? At some point it has to be said that perhaps they aren’t as good as everyone assumes. There is no reason in hell they should be struggling with the Wizards…None.

Well I didn't care for the mermaid and Jesus boy

but they were minimal compared to the scenes with Swan and Turner. Frankly, I thought Blackbeard was beyond awesome and Barbosa on a mission for revenge was great. And the Angelica character was a massive upgrade from Swan.

the angelica character

was a mesh of swan and turner, all rolled up into one condensed ball. Maybe you just find penlope cruz more attractive than keira knightly.

But the 2nd and 3rd movies did suck royally, because of swan and turner…the first one though i thought was by far the best

I find neither of them particularly attractive.

Knightly’s lips are creepy and Penelope Cruz looks like a little horse with boobs. Her character just makes more sense than Swan’s. Swan had no combat skill in the first movie, but by second movie she’s suddenly so well taught with the sword that she can handle life and death battles with no trouble. And by the 3rd she’s the Pirate King? (Monkey D. Luffy would take massive exception to this, by the way.)

i mean i agree with you

on many of your points, but i think they really only apply to the 2nd and 3rd movies, the first one was just really well done. It just flowed well, the 4th one hedges off to the sides way too much and has like a ton of soap opera storylines, many which arent completely explained. You really cant care for the characters cuz u dont know enough. Even jack, i mean he was awesome at the start of the movie, but then it was just the same old schtick. There was no new development, at the least the 3rd movie really tried wrestle with depps complex character….

the 4th is heads and shoulders better than 2 and 3, but the 1st was still the best

The only American movies that had characters

that I cared about were the LOTR movies. American Cinema is too short and action-oriented for me to actually care about characters. I just want to be entertained, and the 4th movie did that the most for me. I also think the ending was the best of all 4.

he still needs to really be tested, lakers defense is so damn lax

but i mean, his shooting ability is real, his court vision is real, his ability to play in big situations is real. He doesnt have anything near nash’s passing ability, but his ability to score is on par with nash, same bounce in his step, same deception in quickness, and that shot…..

by mexkrn on Feb 10, 2012 9:33 PM CST up reply actions

he has a weirdly polarized bball IQ

he really looks like he’s a smart rec league player out there. For example he recognizes the flow of the game, when to take advantages of matchups and how to exploit them, where the open man is going to be, but he has some weirdly sloppy habits like breaking down the defense with weak outlet passes to three point shooters, sometimes falling down and just turning the ball over, and not protecting the ball enough in general.

Also like how he hustles on every play

There are the guys who get you the need baskets," says Bulls reserve forward Brian Scalabrine, referring to the vital hoops that stop runs and close out games. "I have a different word for killers. yea i think he needs to get more polished in play making

but hes got the vision, which is the hardest thing to have (some just have it others dont) and hes got a terrific balance of when to shoot and when to pass, another tough thing to learn. He can take over, and yet keeps everyone in involved, hes the kinda pg people wanna play for…kids special…love his story, his demanor, his game….

im not gonna go out and say hes an all-star level talent yet…but hes definetly real, the flaws he has can be worked on. I think hes pretty terrible on defense though, but like you said..he hustles his ass off all game

LA took a lot out of them. They don’t have any penetration , and unless someone gets hot hitting jumpers or Rondo is able to let run wild, they will lose to most good teams. Obviously bad teams too at times.

The Knickerbockers have a PG?

Jeremy Lin against Kobe and the Lakers: 38 points. 7 assists. 4 rebounds. 2 steals. To me the NBA is much better off when the Knicks are good. I’m from NY so he’ll be fun to watch; even though I’m not a Knick fan.

"We wish Jordan were 7-feet, but he isn't. There just wasn't a center available. What can you do? Jordan isn't going to turn this franchise around. I wouldn't ask him to. He's a very good offensive player, but not an overpowering offensive player." Rod Thorn, then Bulls general manager, after drafting Michael Jordan

I don't have anything against NYC of course.

But the rivalry we had with the Knicks during the Jordan years has left me disliking them in a friendly way I suppose. It cooled with the bad years lately but never quite left me. He was definitely very highly skilled

and a great center, but if he wasn’t 7’6" he wouldn’t have sniffed an NBA court. Lin breaking through is much more impressive considering he’s doing it based on his sick game rather than because of his height

Also I think it’s hard to develop good ballers in China; the level of coaching is probably a lot lower there so players don’t develop as well. Basketball wasn’t popularized there until semi-recently so the older generation of coaches that could be developing the young guys probably is a lot more limited than what we have in the basketball dominant US

This was just on NBA gametime actually

Barkley was talking about how if Shaq was so good that if he was a guard, he still probably would’ve made the NBA.

I agree with you though that you could say that about most centers. I’m just pointing out that it’s much harder for a guard to break through than a center, because center’s have the natural advantage of being tall.

Yao is probably in the 99.9th percentile of height in China; he had a natural advantage in being the first Asian to ball in the NBA. In response to why there aren’t more Asian players in the NBA, Yao was a complete outlier because of his height, so to expect another one shortly after him would require a lot of things to go right with a very small subsection of the Asian population. I believe Yi was the 2nd Asian in the NBA, but I think there was a Japanese guard that rode the bench on the Suns for a while too.

He was incredibly mobile for his size, its unheard of. If yao had not been so injury prone he might have gone down as better than shaq

Alright I'm not trying to take away from Yao's game

This isn’t even really about Yao, I think you guys are missing the point of my argument.

What I’m trying to say is that centers have an inherent advantage playing in the NBA. They don’t have to be as skilled as guards, because their height is an asset that is in high demand and low supply.

It’s akin to left handed pitchers in baseball. They’re rarer, so they don’t have to be as skilled as righties.

I don’t even understand how this is debatable.

There are the guys who get you the need baskets," says Bulls reserve forward Brian Scalabrine, referring to the vital hoops that stop runs and close out games. "I have a different word for killers. You can say that about any basketball player attribute though

You could also have said:

What I’m trying to say is that centers guys who can jump really high have an inherent advantage playing in the NBA. They don’t have to be as skilled as big men guys who can’t jump really high, because their height vertical leap is an asset that is in high demand and low supply.

If Derrick Rose didn’t have a 40-inch vertical, he wouldn’t be nearly as good. How is that any different than Yao taking advantage of his height?

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Feb 11, 2012 12:06 AM CST up reply actions

I am not arguing who is more skilled: Shaq or Yao

In fact, Yao’s post moves would be a lot less useful as a guard so I don’t see how that supports your argument at all.

I also agree that if Yao was healthy he had the potential to be better than Shaq. He probably had a much better work ethic than the big fella.

I’m just saying that Yao’s height helped him tremendously in being the first Asian to breakthrough to the NBA, and it’s taken time for someone to follow him because not many people had the natural advantage that comes with being 7’6"

He was definitely very highly skilled and a great center, but if he wasn’t 7’6" he wouldn’t have sniffed an NBA court.

You basically contradicted yourself. He was an intelligent player who could shoot from nearly anywhere on the floor, had a plethora of post moves, played strong team defense and made his free throws. You can’t say that his height was the only reason he was in the NBA.

Assume Yao began developing his basketball skills as a teenager, say at age 15

which is a pretty conservative estimate. That was 17 years ago. Basketball was a LOT less developed in China back then. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that with the limited number of people interested in playing ball, at 6’6" he would’ve been developed as a center.

Bleach was fine up until they killed stark

I say this because from there on it seemed like kubo ran out of ideas or something for the manga and just rushed it all to a close….theres way too many loose ends and everything stops making sense. Ichigo somehow beats kuchiki byakuya, which is fine, but then at the end of the whole thing byakuya easily defeats the guy who is claiming to be the strongest of all the arrancars? Jin was a complex character that only got 5 min. of fame….

I think bleach’s biggest flaw is that it introduces all these cool characters, most of them are villains, and they all die despite all the juxtaposition they are given….meanwhile our main characters are left with many questions….

Im following bleach to the end, but in the last manga chapter they revealed they are doing the last arc, and thats kind of a shame…it started off so damn well and just nose dived….

If you wanna talk good story, naruto is pretty well thought out….i hear one piece is even better, problem is i never really gave it a chance and now im afraid to being that theres like a billion chapters and a thousand episodes (hyperbole) already…..

Haha yeah I can see there was some confusion there

I’m glad I finally made myself clear.

Piccolomair; you’re Asian too? And I assume you ball?

The thing is, I’m rooting really hard for Lin because it’s tougher than a lot of people think being an Asian baller. I consider myself to be the best player every time I walk onto any given court, but I’ll rarely get passed the ball when I play pickup because everyone assumes being Asian I must be turrible. It’s understandable too, since there’s not many good Asian ballers out there.

A lot of regs seem to have some kind of issue with an Asian dude schooling them. I even have guys sag off me really hard on D or pretend disinterest because they don’t want to get embarrassed by the only Asian guy on the court.

That and getting called Yao 1,000,000x/game gets pretty old. Plus it’s Linsanity! If only he weren’t on the Knicks…

I don't think they're even relatable circumstances.

Yao is China-born and raised and grew up surrounded by only Chinese players. Jeremy Lin is an American from Palo Alto and grew up around American players. If the skill level on the professional circuit is vastly different between the NBA and China then naturally the skill level among kids on the playground and youth leagues is different as well.

If Yao were born and raised in America he arguably would have turned out even better considering he may have been exposed to the game on a more mainstream basis than he was in China. If Lin were born in raised in Taiwan I’d say he is the one who would have less of a shot of being a competent NBA player.

I think the answer to that

is that Asian parents are more concerned with their kids going to college and becoming doctors and engineers than playing basketball.

But as for the height rationale is definitely plays a role. I’ve known a ton of very skilled Asian players in my time but they were all too small (and sometimes not athletic enough) to play competitively.

Westbrook's sheer talent almost makes up for his extreme selfishness

...and Stacey King is HILARIOUS. He's so funny, that I completely overlook the fact that he's gained 300lbs since his playing days.

He's new Dwayne Wade with less PG skills

He’s good but he just does the dumbest things. “We have a 3 on 1! BUT I CAN ATTACK THE RIM111 >miss”

He really did.

Though the players already had expected a gimmick necessary and that’s gotta be a pain for a lot of players thinking about joining the contest. I really don’t care about it until they get back to actual dunking and lose the props. Dr. J, Dominique, MJ, etc. sure didn’t need props to make it exciting.

I don't get the Lin, Teblow comparison...

Teblow was known and hyped up as hell throughout high school and college , While Lin was really came outta nowhere. Seriously it’s just an excuse for the damn media to talk about Teblow again…

I think it's due to their humble nature, underdog story, and the fact that both are very open about their religious beliefs

(although I agree that Tebow isn’t as much of an underdog story because he was a first rounder and champ at Florida, but I think it’s more because both layers are kind of unconventional)

yea to me its not that im comparing the players

well, for a moment i was, because i thought he really was just some scrub who was getting lucky against bad teams, but then you watch him play and its like, nope, hes not some tebow, not some guy who actually sucks at his position but somehow gets wins, hes actually really good at basketball and being a pg.

From now its just going to be annoying overhype and espn trying to turn it into tebow by having guys talk about how hes not actually good and just lucky….while every other tweet has some lin-pun within them

closing thoughts on lin

the reason i love BaB is because we are bulls fans and nba fans here.

i just came from somewhere else and it is sickening to see how homeristic some people are, that they are going to deny how special this Lin thing is just because it’s the Knicks. I mean, why are some Bulls fans so insecure that they still hate the Knicks? I pity the Knicks these days. I’m happy they finally have something good to root for.

I want a Bulls-Knicks rivalry to re-develop, and I want a Rose vs. Lin showdown (with Rose winning, of course). Sometimes Lin reminds me of a slower, less explosive version of Rose, mixed with a little Nash (BLASPHEMY ALERT LOL.)

Under construction.

i agree with that completely

He’s not even close to either of them at their skills but plays like them.

Linsanity?? LOL. Who came up with that name? I bet it was the ESPN hype machine.

The kid has skillz that killz, but I would think this is a bit of an insult to Vince Carter and “Vinsanity.” Let’s wait and see what happens to Lin before we label him the next great thing. Perhaps, since we already have The Black Mamba and The White Mamba, we can and The Yellow Mamba?? LOL

by BullsFan22 on Feb 11, 2012 5:10 AM CST reply actions

All this hype about OKC and Miami

But yet and still, the team that’s played the most games with the most away games with the most injuries still have the best record and that team is the Chicago Bulls.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Feb 11, 2012 10:05 AM CST reply actions

perhaps its because we haven't had that great of a record against winning teams

6-5 against teams currently over .500. Not too shabby but not very impressive either. IIRC last year we were like 12-1 against the top 5 teams in the league or something.

Under construction.

by anorexorcist on Feb 11, 2012 10:34 AM CST up reply actions

Yep

It’s just a double standard. Everyone keeps talking about last year. Well Miami didn’t win the championship last year either. I think what the Bulls are doing in this crazy season is amazing.

Dude, you better get used to it, because now, with this Jeremy Lin stuff

people will probably forget that that Bulls are in the league. The NBA has gone into full on Tebow mode. Seriously 99% of my Twitter timeline was about Lin this morning.

the bulls are winning more than any other team, and if espn doesnt wanna notice well whatever…i rather the bulls not be polluted by the espn media machine

my first compliment from yfBB!

…at least I think it was a compliment.

Seriously though RM, I get where you’re coming from but I think you gotta take the snarkiness in stride. We’re arguing opinions on here so no one is ever really “right”, and Chicagoans tend to defend their views pretty fiercely. Also we have some pretty opinionated people on here, which is a big part of why this blog is so much fun to read.
