Feel free to disagree with me on any of these...but I really feel like the Bulls are simply not a very good team.
- The Bulls are bad at offense and have no jumpshooting: Without Rose, the Bulls are going full games without anybody getting doubled. Sure, Boozer will have a game where he scores 24 or Deng will drop 18 a couple nights a week. But even then, they rarely draw doubles and it seems like despite the high scoring total, it is way, way, way to difficult for them to generate offense and put the ball in the hoop. Nobody on the team is able to both drive and finish at the rim. Hinrich, Robinson, and Teague can somewhat drive, but none of them can make a damn layup. Deng, Boozer, Rip, Noah, and Gibson all seem to be decent enough at finishing under the hoop, but usually arent able to get there. When they try to drive, they usually end up just stopping and taking a weird post up jumper reverse fadeaway thing. And on top of the inability to drive, this team has ZERO jumpshooting. None. Nobody on this team can hit a damn three. Well, in theory Vlad Rad and Bellinellelelelelel can, but Thibs refuses to play them for more than three minutes at a time, and when they are in, the Bulls usually don't run plays to get them open threes...and when they do try to, it usually fails because nobody is getting doubled. Boozer was a knock down shooter last year, but that seems to be gone. Teague refuses to shoot at all. Deng is the opposite of clutch in terms of jump shooting. Taj the same as Deng. Rip can't shoot if he isn't coming off a screen. Hinrich is Ben Gordon without the good shooting nights. Robinson is JL3 without the good shooting nights. This team sorely needs long distance, or any, jumpshooting. And it has none.
- The Bulls are bad at defense, can't defend the jumper, and can't keep people out of the paint, and give up a lot of alley-oops: some of this i'm sure has to do with Rose being gone. He was the best defender from the PG position we had. The trio on the roster now has a hard time keeping anybody in front of them. We have one PG who ripped his crotch in half, another who is smaller than a keebler elf, and another who thinks the ball is made of barbed wire if you aren't playing in college. This team was supposed to survive on it's defense until Rose got back. But the defense has been quite poop. Against both New Orleans and Boston, the team would have won the damn game if they could stop the jumpshooting. But they couldnt do it. Noah was defending like Boozer and it seemed like everybody was playing off their man for fear of getting beat because nobody trusted the bigs to protect the paint. And why the hell do they keep giving up alley-oops? They have given up crunch time alley oops to the Hornets, Thunder, and Celtics now. That is inexcusable. I haven't looked at the numbers, and I don't care what they say. I watch the Bulls play every game and I keep seeing them give up jumpers, layups, and dunks. This team used to defend the way they did while they were making their run against Boston. Where has that gone? Is it a lack of motivation with Rose gone? They need to be the best defensive team in the league to survive without Rose, and right now they are quite bad on that end.
- The Bulls have no closer: That OKC game reminded me very much of how the Bulls + Rose play when they are facing a lesser opponent. They didn't waste energy trying to blow out the Bulls. They let them hang around and at the end, Durant hit a few shots and that was it. Now, if the Bulls could have hit some damn threes or stopped a few layups, it may have been different. But I've already mentioned those problems. The Bulls had nobody to answer Durant. Nobody to close it out. Same thing against Boston. When the Bulls tightened up the D at the end, they had ample chances to tie or take the lead. But half the players didn't want to shoot the big shot and the other half missed the big shots. And Noah, Gibson, Dend, and Boozer keep missing late free throws. Deng, Boozer, Robinson, and Noah have all at times this season attempted to be the closer, but they aren't good enough shooters nor clutch enough offensive players to do it. And nobody on the roster can hit a clutch free throw. No closer is going to make it very difficult to win close games.
- Jerry is making a large amount of money: This new bench is absolutely horrendous. Teague is completely terrified of taking a shot of any significance, Belinlelli isn't getting shots when he's needed, Mohammed and VladRad aren't even playing, Hinrich's gooch fell off, and Robinson is JL3 without the random clutch games. We've pissed on the fact that the Bulls are Jerry's White Sox fundraiser all offseason, and we know that he decided one of the team's biggest strengths was not worth keeping around if a cheaper alternative would eat into his industry leading profits less. And thus we have a team that can't defend, shoot jumpshots, or play.
Is anyone else noticing the same things I am? It's extremely disheartening.
