But looking at the Bulls starting lineup, where is the threat of a 3 supposed to come from? Deng and Rose. That’s it. They’re both shooting poorly, but if you’re just looking for the starting lineup to shoot long 2s and drive, well the defense can just pack the paint, right?

Shooting threes only opens things up when you're actually hitting them.
I never see guys closing out hard on Derrick 3pters, do you? It’s not like his huge amount of attempts is causing the defense to step out on him. They beg him to shoot that shot.
And that's why he needs to hit it.

It’s an impossibility to get to the rim every time or even most of the time. Those other shots are going to be midrange jumpers or 3s. You can’t take every shot at the rim, so players are going to take those other shots and it’s because they’re stupid. It’s because a wide open jumper is often a smarter shot than driving blindly into traffic.

Rose should not depend on off the dribble 3’s as good offense for him
But he shouldn't stop taking them only 10 games into the season.
He doesn’t work on them all off season to just abandon it. If he’s shooting like this a month or so from now then maybe it’s time to change up. It also doesn’t hurt to use it against the lowly Pistons.

I wouldn't mind.
The bench mob’s been damn good with him and he’s been scoring pretty well. I’m not high on CJ so it’s a move I’d consider.
Not me.
What he’s been doing is all good and well, but against better teams his lack of size will be exploited the second he comes in the game. Even if CJ has an off shooting night, I still love his defense.
