At least our starters got some rest and Butler got some play
I’m glad Thibs new when to pull out this time.
And Thibs said, Let there be three's, and Deng shot threes
And Deng saw the three's, that they were good
And didn't shoot long two's anymore

Another bright spot was John Lucas's play
It’s looking more and more like he’s a legitimate nba-caliber player.
Pat Riley is the devil.
Rose put up a stinker and the Hawks shot lights out
It’s hard to win when both of those things happen.
Pat Riley is the devil.
And before anyone jumps on me...
I know that Deng, Boozer and Noah all played like garbage too. But the Bulls can survive bad games from those three, but when Rose is doing his best Chris Duhon impression, the Bulls aren’t gonna win too many games.
Pat Riley is the devil.
something was off...
Sure, it could have easily been fatigue…
But, there seemed to be some real disconnects on the court. There was one inbound in the second quarter, where no one acted like they wanted to bring the ball up court…
It was awkward… not to mention that every article for this game could be title, “Rimmed Out”.
Taj MaBall
that is ridiculous
the Bulls can survive a bad game from Rose if Deng, Boozer, Noah and the rest of the team bring it. They’ve done so many times before. There is no reason to get blown out like that because Rose wasn’t aggressive.

they played so well because the Bulls played so poorly
i don’t think the Bulls starters closed out on a shooter the entire game.
by Basketball Smurf on Jan 7, 2012 10:51 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
I'll give you that
But the Hawks still shot better than they usually do. It was a combination of the Hawks having a hot night and the Bulls rotating poorly.
Pat Riley is the devil.
i take that back
what is ridiculous is the people saying they won’t trade Noah/Deng for Dwight Howard. Because you are absolutely right, the Bulls are a 1 superstar team. And when there superstar has an off night, they struggle to get anything going.
by Basketball Smurf on Jan 7, 2012 10:50 PM CST up reply actions
To say Rose had an off-night is an understatement
It’s not just that his shot wasn’t falling, or that he wasn’t being aggressive enough. He simply couldn’t take care of the ball out there. Deng/Boozer/Noah can’t really “bring it” if Rose is turning the ball over before they can touch it.
Pat Riley is the devil.
he had 5 turnovers
c’mon, you act as if he was fumbling it out of bounds every time it touched his hands. With Rose apparently re-enacting a bloopers reel according to you, Boozer and Deng somehow managed to put up more shots than him and get 3 turnovers of their own.
by Basketball Smurf on Jan 7, 2012 11:04 PM CST up reply actions
I mean really
at one point with no ball pressure Deng dribbled it off his leg and fail to the ground only to see Radmonovic of all people pick it up and pass it ahead for a dunk. The entire starting unit had nothing going all night
by Basketball Smurf on Jan 7, 2012 11:06 PM CST up reply actions
5 turnovers in only 28 minutes of play
That’s pretty bad, especially for a guy like Rose who generally doesn’t make too many risky passes. Deng, Boozer, and Noah definitely had bad games too, but Rose wasn’t making it any easier for them.
Pat Riley is the devil.
i don't even get what you are saying
because Rose played bad, than its okay that Deng, Noah and Boozer played bad? You have to show me why Rose’ 5 turnovers made Deng miss 9 shots and commit 3 turnovers himself. Show me how Rose’ turnovers made Boozer not close out and Noah not do anything. Because that doesn’t add up to me.
If you want put all the blame on him, fine go for it. But Deng is suppose to be an all star. Boozer is a former all-star. Noah a 2nd team defender. If they can’t do shit when Rose has a bad game, I don’t want to here anyone say we shouldn’t trade them for Howard. To me, those guys are talented enough to get the job done without Rose. This team has done it before. I don’t know why we have to absolve their bad games b/c Rose was bad too. They can all be bad and they can all share the blame.
by Basketball Smurf on Jan 7, 2012 11:12 PM CST up reply actions
I'm saying Rose had an awful game, one which was far below his standards
And because the Bulls’ offense is built around Rose, when he’s playing like this, it almost doesn’t matter how well Deng, Boozer and Noah are playing. Not one of those guys is capable of carrying a team like Rose is. That’s not to say they can’t win when Rose is playing badly; they can, if the defense is playing at its usual elite level. But that wasn’t the case tonight either.
Once again, I’m not saying Deng, Boozer, and Noah didn’t have bad nights. They were all awful. But the Bulls just aren’t going to win without Rose playing like this.
Pat Riley is the devil.
And also, I don't get why you keep bringing up trading Noah/Deng for Howard
It has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m saying.
Pat Riley is the devil.
Well this is a public board
When I brought up Howard it was in reference to other posters. Its not like we are having a private conversation. Some other people may want to chime in.
Second, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to value 3 guys making a combined $38 million in salary if you can absolve them for all responsibility for a loss when the #1 guy plays bad. If Rose had sat out the game completely, I would still expect Deng-Boozer-Noah to give the Hawks a game. Those guys are that good. And if they can’t than their less valuable than everyone believes them to be.
I don’t believe that. I believe those guys are valuable. I think the Bulls can beat the Hawks when Rose plays bad. And I think when you give up 63 pts in the 1st half, come out flat in the 2nd to fall behind by 25, and your four best guys all have a +/- below -25, than its time to pass out the blame equally. They didn’t get blown out because Rose played bad. They got blown out because the team played bad. A one man team isn’t going to beat the Heat, so I expect this team to be more than a 1 man team. I’m not going to treat them like this is the 89 Bulls or the 06 Cavs at the mercy of a superstar having an off night.
Noah knows -
“This one’s on the people that started the game,” Bulls center Joakim Noah said after scoring one point and pulling down four rebounds in 17 minutes. “The second unit got it back to 4. It was embarrassing tonight.”
Unless of course by “the people” he meant Rose. If the starters don’t completely suck, the bulls are in this game. They know Rose is playing with a hurt elbow. They are capable of picking up the slack when he falters.

reading all this made me kinda glad i missed the game lol
Thx for the recap tho fellas…and I thinl bput smurf and polo are both right…we can’t win when rose has a bad game or we would have beat the heat last year, and at the same time, we “should” have enuff talent to be competitive when rose has a bad game but then again thats why we lost to the heat last year. I would trade everyone but rose and deng…personally I wouldn’t trade deng…he’s tge perfect 3rd wheel

i didn't like that drew put in his starters when still up 16 and 4 min left.
thought that was pretty douchey to put them in on 3rd stringers. if they had been able to pull w/in 10, sure, but they were still aways a way.

You know what, we deserved that.
The Bulls came out listless and it doesn’t matter if it’s the starters, 3rd stringers or ball boys. They came out there playing like shit and the Bulls deserved that asskicking. All the Bulls can do is remember it and learn from it.
the bulls cut it to 14. they cut it under 10, it would have been a game
and you may be talking about one of the most embarrassing losses ever. I didn’t have a problem with it.

it was 17 (with an and-1 coming) when they were put in.
i’m sure horford feels really great dunking over guys who shouldn’t even be playing nba basketball.
meh, i don’t know. it rubs me the wrong way. it was annoying enough that smith stayed in so long, but that is def something thibs does too. but there was no reason they needed to be put in then.

I can't blame him for that.
They’ve blown leads and it’s a little something to keep the team’s confidence up. Also, the Bulls have been guilty of doing that.
I think it's respect if anything.
It’s not like he doesn’t know the Bulls are the better team. One or two more stops with Butler/Lucas offense and suddenly maybe Thibs would have brought his starters back in (which probably would have been a mistake with the way they were playing.)

I just started laughing when I saw this.
You gotta be kidding me, Choach. Putting your starters in on those guys up 17 with 4 minutes to play.
Guess he’s really afraid of the Bulls…
And then the announcers go all bonkers: “CHECK OUT THE MOVE BY TEAGUE!” – Yeah, on fricking SCALABRINE!! (When he crossed him over and scored a lay-up.
And when Teague (I think) crossed Kyle Korver over it was “HE BROKE HIS ANKLES!”" And then when some Atl-player got crossed over in pretty much the same manner it was: "Well, he wouldn’t have been able to do that if “said player” hadn’t fallen down…" Idiots!
Nice things to take from the game, though. Asik, Taj, Butler, Korver and The Third all played decently. Atl were 9/10 from threes which was a combination of extremely hot shooting and us not closing out. (Yeah, we did a terrible job on that and I don’t know why) Seems we thought since they were on the back end of a back to back to back that they would be tired and that we would handle them easily. But they came with very good intensity and hustle and shot lights out. Also we really have to practice playing against a zone defense more because we REALLY suck at it, IMO.
lol that part is true
about the announcers… i laughed at that too. or like horford dunking over scal too. like who the fuck cares. i’d almost be embarrassed if i were the atl starters having to come in and play against the 3rd stringers at that point in the game.

i blame the lack of a game recap for the last game
for this loss, bad omen…bad luck….hear that yfbb, this team is counting on your game recaps to keep things realistic…..without this blogs negative recaps the bulls team has no passion to play….
I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

I remember the days of negative recaps and pessimistic previews!
This team has clearly spoiled us.
And Thibs said, Let there be three's, and Deng shot threes
And Deng saw the three's, that they were good
And didn't shoot long two's anymore

If that were the case
the Bulls wouldn’t have won 62 games last year.

I'm a bit worried about Jo.
He’s my favorite player but he isn’t the same. He isn’t hustling as he used to. He isn’t getting offensive rebounds and blocks. He also can’t seem to finish strong. Dunk it!
he has to concentrate on doing things like rebounding and defending
i don’t know if its the plan, but he seems to be trying to do stuff he isn’t capable of on both ends of the floor. I don’t think the plan is to go to Noah on the post when we have Rose, Boozer and Deng in the game. And if it is the plan, Thibs needs to write a new plan. Right now Noah is playing kind of like a spaz on the court. He is out of control half the time.
by Basketball Smurf on Jan 7, 2012 10:55 PM CST up reply actions
actually the only thing he's doing as consistently as before
is offensive rebounding… his defensive rebounding is what’s down.
but i agree with smurf… he seems to be trying too hard to do stuff he shouldn’t be doing.

i think hes hurt
in the magic game i saw that arm band on his elbow, at one point he was hit there and he was wincing while adjusting the band and holding that arm….so he probably injured it, maybe just a bruise but its possible its bothering him
I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

By the way, even if Miami does sweep the Bulls in the playoffs...
….it’ll be the week AFTER they swept your buddy Carmelo and the Knicks, if the Bulls don’t spank the Knicks first.

not really upset bout the loss, but at least....
the starters got their rest. But man, i gotta say butler can ball. I really hope he gets more time b/c I want Deng rested well before the playoffs.
Rose, Deng, Noah & Brewer were flat and without energy.
Boozer was aggresive but shot selection and toughness going to the rim were questionable. Lucas and Butler did well. Id like to see Lucas and Boozer work on a pick and roll game and for boozer to harden up in the paint. Korver played 35 minutes and only got 8 field goal attempts. Clearly he has to improve his off the ball movement which also could be helped if they ran some decent plays for him. Even Thibs looked flat. Atlanta had a tough schedule aswell and they were fresh. With the depth of this team i dont see how any 1 player gets more than 30 minutes a night unless they are playing at a very high level even if your name is rose or deng.
Aussie Bulls Fan
im kinda glad we lost....
This shows how deep our bench is and that Jimmy Butler showed why hes a Baller, and should play more mins.
Booz summed it all up...
When he beat his man to the rim and DIDN’T DUNK THE BALL…
What the hell was going on there? He had a clear path and got scared and missed the layup? That was very weird. I swear something was off with all starters….
Maybe they had a secret meeting and played that way, so the bench would get more minutes? Hehe… just weird.
