I am a complete Memphis homer (I attend the University, dammit!) but I really think he can help the team. He'd be cheap, and he has greatly improved his jump shot in Italy. I've been tracking his stats over there and he's averaging 15pts or so. In the NBA, that's closer to 20pts. He's 6'7'', athletic, long, and competitive. You don't have to agree, I just want him on the team for loyalty reasons and because I think he could help.

(Edit: I looked up his stats. 12.1ppg on 50.6% shooting, 35.1% from 3)

Haha oh yea that PPG formula

is alittle messed up.

"closer to 20"

based on the minutes they play. Plus, they only play once a week, so the defense is tougher

And Europe plays the game closer to Hockey style than NBA style.

Meaning more players, fewer minutes. A player getting 20 minutes in Europe would be getting 35+ in the NBA.

plus there's no defensive 3 seconds

I wouldn't mind him on the bench in the future, but not now.

He doesn’t bring anything that the Bulls need. He isn’t a great ball handler, can’t create his own shot, and is a poor shooter. He’s basically a poor man’s Brewer.

have you seen his statistics from playing in Italy?

I don’t accept the “He’s a bad ballhandler/can’t create his own shot” either. He is a career 44% shooter, his 3pt% has improved all 3 years (and even more in Italy). He has averaged 1.1 TOpg in the NBA. He also defends LBJ well. Looking at the last 3 games those two tangled, LBJ averaged 21.6ppg on 42.5% shooting, each statistic significantly below LBJ’s averages. He also put up 30pts facing LBJ last year.

I think he also has more value for this team than you think. He can play SF or SG, giving Deng some well deserved rest, has played with Rose before, and can be bought for cheap. If we end up making a trade for Dwight or something, he could really shine.

I haven’t even posted his statistics from Italy, but I can if you’d like. Also, I am biased so I will defend him regardless, so don’t take any of those points personal.

I’m on your bandwagon. And he and Rose are supposedly very close. No reason not to give D R his buddy if we can fit him in the team.

by metalkiwis on Jan 29, 2012 10:34 PM CST up reply actions

yeah not a good comparison

he’s a threat offensively more than he is defensively i’d say

by MartyMondays on Jan 29, 2012 8:06 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Also, in his last game in Italy he score 19pts, 100% FG% and 3-3 from 3pt land

True, but like I've stated, they have no Defensive 3 seconds so the lane is clogged, they play less minutes, and they have 6 days before their next game. That is a LONG time to form a gameplan.

Also, the competition level is tougher than College basketball. It obviously isn’t the NBA, but look at Rubio. Look at the Gasol brothers. Their statistics transferred over pretty well, don’t you think?

Well Rubio did nothing his last year over there. And all three you mentioned played in a different league, I believe. And they were more than stat monsters. Rubio and the Sr Gasol were just transcendent and considered sure things from real young ages. Marc was never hyped, did he even play overseas? I think he was over in the states from when Pau came.

by metalkiwis on Jan 29, 2012 10:38 PM CST up reply actions

Pau averaged 12.4pts and 5.4 rebounds in his last year playing in Europe. I wouldn't call that "transcendent"

Marc played 4 years in Europe. My whole point was that numbers generally hold up okay.

Pau was winning his leagues MVP. Dude was dominating his league. You can’t just look at the numbers of the Euros.

by metalkiwis on Jan 30, 2012 7:52 PM CST up reply actions

do numbers not dictate production?

by Brigade17 on Jan 30, 2012 8:37 PM CST up reply actions

Not really. There is more to it than that. How else could Pau win MVPs with those kind of numbers?

by metalkiwis on Jan 30, 2012 10:25 PM CST up reply actions

I agree CDR could be a nice piece but he is simply not on the talent level of players like the Gasols or Rubio.

Plenty of guys put up numbers in the Euros. How is that Splitter guy working out in SA? Dude was killing overseas. Not so much here. It’s more than numbers.

by metalkiwis on Jan 30, 2012 10:27 PM CST up reply actions

The Gasols and Rubio are All-Star caliber.

I think CDR’s potential is that 2nd tier. He has a diverse skill set on offense though, and plays above average D. Put him on the court with Rose and Thibs coaching and I think he excells.

Never did I say CDR was one of those.

Woah

Lets hold off on calling Marc one of the best Euros ever. He is still not top ten probably. Dude had one good year and a ton of talent. But lets see it play out first.

Top of the head list
Dragen
Divac
Pau
Dirk
nash
Manu (i know not european but i dont care, fuck reality)
Peja
shit there has to be three more better than the total of Marcs career. I even think Asik could wind up better.

nash isn't a euro

Look
I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

Canada, I think? Same difference to me. He has the same style of play. And he is not from the US. I was thinking he played ball overseas first, did he?

S.C. was the only school to give him a scholarship out of high school

and one of the first things Nash did when he got drafted was to start up a scholarship to pay back his alma mater. Stand up dude.

this is a horrid comparison

he’s a decent defender (but not great) and has random super-crafty drives. Also he “just wants to win!!!”. (Also, his arm wasn’t broken as a kid.)
He’s more of a weird younger Salmons (who drives but whose 3 is a little questionable) than that really.

After reading his latest blog post, Hell yes.

I dont think he will come cheap however and he will probably get mle money. Plus we have jimmy butler who seems to be very similar to CDR and cheaper. Although he gets no minutes and we already have very good wing depth.

by Krandle on Jan 30, 2012 1:15 AM CST reply actions

CDR's a better ball handler and driver. Part of this is anticipating that "marquee trade" the Bulls may or may not make

Deng needs some time off though; Thibs is running him into the ground. Plus, CDR won’t be availble this year, so I speak even more for next year. He has played SG in the past and is capable of guarding some PFs. Also…he’s 25 years old. Lots of room to mature and fit into a system.

The man is all confidence and even more heart.

Just say you like CDR a lot because you’re a Memphis homer and it would make you happy to see him on the Bulls.

He’d be just a guy in the nba. Nothing more.
