individual Drating is mostly (all?) team-driven
I’ve seen several accounts of people saying they believe Boozer’s defense is better. I still think it sucks. I’m probably right as it seems harder to believe he ‘got it’ at age 30…though he is thinner, maybe that’s one area that actually helped.

One would think that if losing weight helps with lateral quickness and moving on defense,
it would also give a player more vertical explosion. Being that he can barely dunk, I’d say his weight loss hasn’t done shit.
he cant dunk cuz he lost his hops
happens to every small sized big man…in a sense, im glad he found his jump shot again
You don't just lose all your hops at once.
There’s a gradual decline over the span of a career, it’s not like walking off of a cliff. Now, being that nothing crazy happened since last season injurie-wise, you’d think losing 20+ pounds of fat would make up for some lost natural athletcisim, but it hasn’t.
Turf toe and Kwame almost snapped Boozer's leg in half in that last Bobcats game.
"Did Michael Jordan join the Pistons when he couldn't beat them? No. He dug down deep and went out and kicked their fucking ass."
you kind of do man
but i also i think it depends on the type of player you are and im not a doctor or anything but im just going off perception.
IMO, if your an injury prone player, you can lose your hops all of a sudden but if you a pretty healthy player, it will decline slowly, like i got this from watching garnett. KG was always healthy but after that surgery in boston, he lost his hops, kind of got it back for the playoffs (maybe a mental push, who knows) and now he is a jump shooting big man. same thing with chuck when he got to the rockets and shaq when he got to PHX. (i would actually love to say he lost it in Miami right around when he limped into the finals with wade)
but what im starting to like in carlos is that his jump shot has been pretty good lately and it makes me say: hey, he’s learning to play the game with his limitations…when it hurts us is when his shot is off b/c he’s not as young and “spingy” to force himself down low and make power moves (although he can do that sometimes against weak PF/C)
again, im just going off the top of the cerebellum
It doesn't say he is a great defender
but maybe it helps against his reputation that everything that goes wrong is his fault

It shows that he improved
And not fucking horrible anymore…he’s probably close to average so far

"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
We should probably look at last season's stats on this...
just for reference, heh
It looks like
he at least rotates now. He is moving and making mistakes rather than standing and making mistakes, which makes it a bit easier to watch.
dude, clearly you know he's not as bad as he was
I believe he’s average, or perhaps even mildly above average (I only watch the Bulls religiously, I don’t really know where the league average for big men closing out is), but I can tell you this:
last year, Boozer rarely closed out, and when he did, he did it at a snail’s pace. He now consistently close’s out, even if it is still incredibly slow. He always had good hands for steals, but never seemed to use them or try to tap away. He still gets blown by too much (especially in the post. If you were ever good in the post on offense, you should have the same physical tools to be good in the post on D.) and he still is slow as a snail on close outs. But he’s got way more active hands, and he is, at least, consistently closing out.

He's averaging a higher number of blocks and steals than he ever has before
But the blocks are still low for a big man.

Swift can at least block shots
Grif doesnt even do that

maybe it's just luck
but his random swipes at the ball have been coming up with more steals this year

As YFBB said above, individual DRtg has little to do with individual skills
It is more team driven and matchup driven. Luol is not a worse defender than Boozer (duh). However, he plays more minutes and always gets the toughest perimeter matchup. Boozer always guards the least talented post up player. I do think his defense has gotten to the point of not killing us and if he has a decent night offensively he can be an asset, but he is not an elite defender.
As long as Booz is more active and moving his feet, that's all I care about.
He’s actually blocked shots and stole the ball/created turnovers, but he still pushes people in the back that blow by him for the and one which pisses me off. Obviously he’s not all world out there, but I actually think he did get a little better. That’s something at least.
On the J.R. Smith bandwagon until otherwise advised.

Even if it's more of a team stat, it's still proof that the defense doesn't suffer as much as people say when he's on the floor.
Being in the right position and communicating with teammates are two of the most important things, and he seems to be pretty good in that regard
Also, I think some of the time when people blow by him it’s more because he’s conceding the points instead of going for a block that he knows he won’t get and fouling. He knows his limitations, which isn’t a bad thing.
Injuries. Fuck.

The thing with Booz is that regardless of how good the team D is,
there are countless times that the other team scores and it’s CLEAR that Booz is the one that really fucked up. His hands are a little better and he seems to have been better with deflections and the occasional blocked shot, but to quote JD from ESPN 1000, when you think of Boozer on D, it’s always him standing under the hoop watching some guy hanging after a dunk.
I don't even know what that means but I posting it here:

They're flawed but I wouldn't say they suck
As long as you are aware of the flaws and use the stats accordingly you’re fine. Unlike some *cough*wages of wins*cough*

No way he's ahead of Deng in individual defense
This stats is useless cuz it also has good ol Spence above Dwight
Basically it means the teams have the best defenses when those players are on the court
Whether they are the reason or not
The Sixers are the best team in the NBA rate now based on the team PER ratings
