It looks like a risky move
if he plays well thru pain, it’s ok
If at some point he can’t handle he may be too close to the playoffs for surgery

I'm not a doctor, but I Googled it.
If they can tell it is severe but can’t tell whether it needs surgery, they usually immobilize it for a week then look at it again. So, tune in again next week.
He's saying that because it was his shooting hand
even if the damage was minor, he would’ve needed surgery

they are stretching of the ligaments...
sprains can occur with/without ligament damage. This is obviously ligament damage and its pretty bad. However, its possible to play thru it (e.g. kobe)
I'm not either
Actually neither is Will Carroll, but his dad is and he does this for a living so I defer to him.
Here's the medical site he linked to
http://www.radiologyassistant.nl/en/42764e8fe927e
I can’t find anything there that says all sprains are tears. I think Carroll’s confused sprains with strains. First of all, the difference between a strain and a sprain is that you strain a muscle while you sprain a ligament. All strains are slight tears of muscle fiber, but not all sprains involve tearing a ligament.
Pat Riley is the devil.

From wikipedia
A sprain is an injury in a joint, caused by the ligament being stretched beyond its capacity. A muscular tear caused in the same manner is referred to as a strain. In cases where either ligament or muscle tissue is torn, immobilization and surgical repair may be necessary. Ligaments are tough, fibrous tissues that connect bones to other bones. Sprains can occur in any joint but are most common in the ankle and wrist.
there is a difference between a micro tear
and not having a ligament. and anyone with medical experience would know that
NAOPOS
If he's week to week
Why not just have the surgery, he’ll be out the same amount of time wouldn’t he?
I would say it doesn't look so bad
He won’t undergo surgery to repair the injury, but according to CSN Chicago will miss at leasta week of actionwhile he recovers.
Link
But when guys miss a week they are usually marked as day-to-day
So I’m guessing 2-3 weeks for Deng
Hopefully he can play through it without too much pain...
His defense will still be valuable, but his offensive production (shooting at least) might drop significantly..
Fuck this compacted season.

thats why he's been on the trading block for the last two years right
Cause Memphis has such an overabundance of 20 pt scorers that they can trade OJ for a pittance
In his first 2 years, he had 36 and 31 games with points over 20…
the last two, 10 combined…
I wouldn’t say he’s a lock to drop 20 any given night

That's also when he played more mins
Right now he’s at 24-25. He’d get alot more here. Like I said, agree to disagree but I think he could help this team out alot, and for a lower end draft pick? No brainer
for our own 1st rounder
yes…for Asik or Taj and Bobcats first…no way. With Rip at SG and Brewer/Korver/Scal/Butler at SF we’ll be fine

He's one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA.
And “let walk for nothing” doesn’t equal getting signed by another team.

Memphis has been saying lately that they want to keep him. They feel that he didn't have his "head on properly" last year
quoting from Memphis radio
"There are two ways to argue with a woman, and neither of them work."
- Carlos Boozer after cancelling an interview with a Sports Illustrated reporter because his wife was expecting him home.
Tony Allen also has the strength to guard bigger guys.
OJ Mayo is nothing special.

I've watched Tony Allen defend bigger forwards consistently since 2008.
Mayo has yet to show that ability.

Don't know what games your watchin
When Memphis locks down and makes run Mayos on the court for it. Is he Tony Allen, of course not, I never said that. His arguement was he can’t gaurd LeBron cuz of his height, height doesn’t matter. If you don’t wany Mayo, that’s fine. That dude could help us out right now, and he’s not a defensive liability and would actually make LeBitch have to work hard on his defense.
Not the lebron that's been playing this year

Meh, nevermind.
"Smith stripped. Smith stopped! Smith stopped again by Pippen!"
by ColonelFatheart on Jan 24, 2012 2:40 PM CST up reply actions
We're a team defense anyways
So it doesn’t matter alot. But Rose, Rip, and Mayo on the offensive end would casuse a shit load of teams(there are more teams than the Heat) fits. He can play 3 when Rips on the court, play 2 when he’s not. Come off the bench, whatever. Point is it would be a huge upgrade for giving up a late draft pick.
If he's as good as you imagine him to be
What makes you think a 2nd rounder will be enough to get him?
By popular demand I am putting a moratorium on the Melo talk until the Knicks win the title in June.
If he's as good as you're making him out to be
And all they want is a pick then explain why no other team has him yet? You can’t tell me no other team in the league wouldnt want a guy who “can drop 20 on any given night” AND guard lebron
By popular demand I am putting a moratorium on the Melo talk until the Knicks win the title in June.
It could be alot of things man, maybe teams don't wanna give up their 1rst
Mostly financial I bet, which last time I check, we have space, correct? i’m tired of arguing about hypotheticals. Once again, agree to disagree.
There are a lot of teams with cap that need the type of player you're describing
And if he existed and was available for JUST a pick, someone would have him already

I think there's gonna be a bigger dropoff than you think
Brewer’s a great defender, but it’s gonna be an adjustment consistently going up against bigger guys. For example, Brewer probably hasn’t had much experience guarding the post, and he’ll be a lot likely to have to do that .
Pat Riley is the devil.
Ehh...
what SF in the East, aside from Lebron, scares you in the post? Besides for that, Ronnie is 6-7 and thicker/stronger than Lu. I think he’ll be fine.
I think so too.

Well, thinking about the next game, Danny Granger can play in the post
He was actually one of the most effective post scorers in the league last year, according to Synergy. He’s struggled this year, though.
Anyways, I agree that Ronnie has the skillset to be effective at the 3, but he doesn’t have the experience there that Deng does.
Pat Riley is the devil.
are you sure?
i’m pretty sure i’ve never seen him cross the 3 pt line.

Here's a lengthy article on Granger's struggles this year
http://outsidethearc.com/2012/01/09/whats-going-on-with-danny-granger/
From there:
Granger’s main problem so far this season is that he’s been extraordinarily ineffective on two specific types of plays on which he was extremely effective last year: post-ups and pick-and-rolls. His 1.15 points per possession (PPP) on post-ups ranked 7th in the NBA last season according to Synergy Sports Technology and his 0.84 PPP out of the pick-and-roll ranked 62nd, which still placed him in the top 15% of all players.
Pat Riley is the devil.
So on the one hand, he's really struggled in the post this year
On the other, it’s definitely within his skill set to excel there.
Pat Riley is the devil.
that's where Joakim comes in...
he can pick up the slack… and depending on who the C is, it will be Asik or Boozy (leaving Taj out of it, for now).
It’s not what you would ask for, but something like this should keep Noah very fired up…
Taj MaBall
Well it hurts in rebounding and guarding 4s
like Luol can. But it does give you a slightly better ball handler at SF which could help in the fastbreak and at other times
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
The only knock on Lu
Is still his dribbling…Ew
"Violence is not always the answer."
"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
Yeah, it's his one real weak point.
But it’s pretty much covered up by the offense the Bulls run. It’s not like Deng’s ever called on to go one on one.

Ugh, of course this just had to happen...
Hopefully it’s not too bad to the point where we won’t see him for months or the playoffs even, but the team is deep enough to where, if he needs surgery and can come back in time for the playoffs, then I would personally take the surgery, just get it done and over with…

Dwyer: Deng’s bad break could be a good thing for the Bulls
Deng has earned this (tough) break. Now give him a chance to help his team earn its first championship in 14 years. Let him heal. Relying on Dr. Kobe Bryant for advice will get you nowhere.

Of course, the key word is "could."
It COULD be a good thing, Dwyer says, if Thibs and the org actually lets these guys rest every so often.

What the hell does that article mean?!
I love Dwyer (and the fact that he’s a die-hard Bulls fan), but sometimes his articles are beyond confusing.
yeah, he is pretty clear
And this is why you sit Deng until that All-Star break, at least. Because he’s earned that time off.

I thought it was almost universally accepted that
whoever wanted Howard would have to take back Hedo’s contract. It’s an interesting idea, but I can’t imagine the Org would want McGee.
i don't even get the wiz's inclusion in this trade at all.

I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

Ronnie Brewer
I think this will be Ronnie’s time to shine. With the way Rip has been dishing, and with Ronnie’s improved catch-and-shoot ability, I think he will have Luol proud. Deng’s a competitor, so he’ll be back when hes ready.
if the lakers kept tanking

Timetable if Surgery
Is there any reliable source telling us how long he would be out if he had surgery? I know a lot of people are searching Google, but I’m looking for someone associated with this particular injury to say it will take X weeks to recover.
I ask because I feel like this must be a long recovery time if he’s avoiding surgery. If this is something that takes 6 weeks, it’d be incredibly stupid not to do it. But the fact they are avoiding it makes me think surgery means the end of his season.
nah, its jsut they think deng is so vital to this team that they cant afford to lose him
you heard thibs quote…it sounds like he wants deng to play asap, lmao.
