I am over my Tyrus Thomas man crush
I appreciate Tyrus Thomas is only 10 games back from his injury, but what I saw Saturday night really shocked me. I was a real kool-aid fan of Tyrus (i.e, upside) and hated to see him traded. However, my man crush is definitely over for the former #4 pick. My observations include:
- Skinny as a rail and less muscle definition than when he was a Bull
- Loves the perimeter way too much
- Not in flow of offense - 3rd/4th option bailout jump shooter
- No longer a defensive presence
Drafted as a Power Forward Defensive Beast now a wimpy small forward. I will never understand where he got the idea he was a small forward. Good job by GarPax for getting a future #1 before he imploded. What is Silas/MJ thinking?

I was over mine the last month or two he was here
I still saw all that athleticism, but there came a time to know it would never materialize. He’s just a very dumb in bball IQ player, and that’s ultimately been his downfall.
The kid's out of this world. He's got Allen Iverson speed, Jason Kidd's vision, Chauncey Billups' shooting ability and Michael Jordan's athleticism. How do you guard that? - Pacers coach Frank Vogel.
he did look really thin
his undoing will likely be his still-existing fixation on being a SF instead of a PF

Bobcats actually fed into it a little bit by starting him at SF for his first few games
since they coincided with the Corey Maggette injury, and DJ White was playing well at the time.
Maybe they hoped he’d see how bad he was as a SF and immediately hit the gym.
his undoing
will be that he’s a numbskull in an elite athelete’s body.

Wow
3rd lowest PER of any forward in the league that plays at least 25 mpg.
That trade keeps looking better and better

a recc'd bucket of cold water
but i’ve seen his % of shots taken from outside and they seemed WAY too high for the TT I knew. Here’s hoping he turns it around, from one of his many early fans.

Dude still can't get to 30mpg
His minutes were dropping and this year (an awful start) he’s at almost 26+ a whopping 25% more than he played in the year prior and almost 27% more than his career average.
Call a spade a spade, the guy’s 25 years old now, in his 8th year in the league, making $7.3M, and he still sucks.
Tyrus is not a basketball player, he’s an elite athlete that should have stayed in track.

Might it be too soon...
…to stop comparing him to Stromile Swift – and START comparing him to Brad Sellers?…
LeBron is an Asshole
watching the game in charlotte tonight vs knicks
never seen tt have such a weak game playing 30+ before
(charlotte’s offense is a mess though, and no augustin tonight)

I spent many years trying to argue that somehow trading LaMarcus for Tyrus made sense...
and I was glad to stop fighting that fight.
I think its safe to say we lost that arguement
I really need to figure out how to change my handle….

the only real argument that exists is
anything that happened before the drose miracle led to that miracle. so ask yourself if you like rose better than aldridge plus, i guess, DJ augustin.

I was at the game Saturday, second row.
Tyrus was right in front of me and the first thing I noticed about him was how skinny he looked. He looked kind of malnourished, much lighter than he did as a Bull. It’s not like he was chubby or anything, he just lost a bunch of the muscle he had, which admittedly wasn’t very much.
We're over Tyrus...
but we’ll always have the Boston playoff series.

I saw thru the Tyrus charade by his 3rd year. Being able to jump high is great but when you can’t back that up with smart play or basic basketball skills…it’s worthless. We all made so many excuses for the guy. I remember the first time someone mentioned Taj is a better player than Tyrus, people were heated! Now it’s just common knowledge
There was a lot of Taj hatred
because of some fans love of Tyrus. Looks like the organization knew what they were doing when they traded him. I’m glad we have Taj.
it wasn't just the love of tyrus
it was also the way it happened. it was pretty outrageous to have him just lose his starting spot to injury. he got injured 4 games into the season so it wasn’t fair to say he was sucking or not. it would have been outrageous no matter who it was. people didn’t really hate taj, just what he represented.
Look
I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

It wasn't Taj's fault Tyrus lost his
starting spot but he took the brunt of the abuse by people in here. I never said Tyrus sucked or not I just said they made the right decision to trade him.
no, i know
what i’m saying is it didn’t matter… who it was. they would have gotten hate cause of the situation.

Was it hard work, talent and great character,
which is what Taj represented and some people hated?

You're right, Bulls fans hate those guys.
That’s why Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Luol Deng are mercilssley booed every time they touch the ball at the UC. Fuck those guys, working hard to improve themselves. Give me Andray Blatche.

Skiles saw it coming a long time ago
You always were second best! And in this business, Bub, second best don't *cut* it!
Pax wanted Tyrus instead of LMA anyways, so he managed to get Viktor Khryapa as a throw-in.
Genius!

And saved some money in the deal overall
And at the time LMA was seen as a talented but indifferent kind of player….whereas Tyrus was all raw athleticism and raw talent that could have been something.
LMA was teh safer choice, but wasn’t really seen to have the ceiling he’s already achieved (and he’s getting better still), and Tyrus was the riskier choice, but the Bulls at the time were thought to be an up and coming team with Ben Wallace coming on board, and in that circumstance, it made sense to go with the raw talent with high upside, than the safer choice but one who was thought to be more a likely possible starter (not an elite PF).
I understood the pick at the time, and early on LMA wasn’t bad but really wasn’t showing the kind of game he’s got now (just seemed to be a nice puzzle piece playing alongside better stars (Roy and hopefully Oden), but LMA turned himself into a star…..and was perhaps the biggest all star snub last year.

Hopefully in the end the Tyrus thing won't kill us
If we get a top 5 pick from CHarlotte in a few years to pair with our then 25-27 year old Derrick Rose for the second wave, then that Tyrus pick will look a little better (should that pick turn out), though us getting that from Charlotte was a saving grace.

I mean, hey, I wanted Tyrus at the time too.
Oh well. I have a pretty solid history of wanting the wrong player. I’m ashamed to admit that I wanted Beasley over Rose and Hawes over Noah (although the latter is starting to look a little more reasonable).
Pat Riley is the devil.
