ESPN Trade Machine
It looks like it's back up and running with the new CBA and salaries updated. I noticed it has Noah and some other newly signed players unavailable to be traded. What restrictions does Noah still have on him from being traded at this point, and when will it be lifted? I know he probably has some sort of BYC restriction beig this is the first year of his extension but I couldn't find the date that this would expire.

per the Bulls (through KC), Noah isn't BYC
don’t know why, or why not, but that’s what they claim.
Besides I think it was originally to 1/17 or something, right?

yeah i thought the rumor was january 15 anyway
which has since passed. doesn’t make much sense…
Look
I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

Noah was a base year player and until January 15
Larry Coon even tweeted this to you:
Technically he IS a base year player, but the rules have changed so BYC is ignored for most trades now. They don’t use the BYC number for salary matching any more, except in a sign-and-trade. Trades of players who are technically base year players (per criteria from 2005 CBA) are prohibited before 1/15.
I think the misunderstanding here comes from how the term “BYC” is used, which previously referred to how a player’s salary was calculated differently for trades. BYC is only used for sign-and-trades now, so the salary designation doesn’t apply anymore. Instead there is just a straight-up prohibition of players who would have been subject to BYC in the old CBA. So Noah couldn’t be traded before 1/15, but he wasn’t subject to BYC.
And as for ESPN’s Trade Machine, I’m pretty sure they’re wrong about the 3/1 date because it’s listed as being the same time frame as newly-signed free agents, and not the 1/15 date that was stated in the League’s memo.
