Ray Allen Trade Proposal

After watching the celtics game the other night, i began to think how good the bulls would be right now if they had Ray Allen.

Chicago recieves - Ray Allen and Jermaine Oneall.
Boston recieves - Joakim Noah and Rip Hamilton.

Salaries are close enough for it to work. Boston gets a more rounded starting five and a long term prospect at centre that can pair with rondo on the fast break and give them the energy spark that they lack right now. Chicago would be a whole new ball team with this trade. Thoughts?

Yeah, let's do that.

And then let’s trade Omer for that Rockets back-up SG. And then let’s trade Taj for that Grizzlies back-up SG. And then lets trade somebody for that gunner on the frigging Sac Kings that used to be the back up SG in New Orleans. WTF? Who thinks up all this crap?

Allen would give us the 2nd star we need to make a run this year.

We could fill the hole that noah leaves with what we have now. I dont see Noah getting any better and he lacks discipline which affects his consistency. I should of mentioned Allen would have to sign a 2 year extension for it to work. Even at 36 i think Allen will be able to play at the level he is at now for the next 2 to 3 years because of his discipline and style of play. I dont think we can get past the heat with our current squad.

by haypete on Jan 15, 2012 1:01 AM CST reply actions

I dont see Allen getting any younger.

you want to get past the Heat now, and what about the future? The heat’s not going down in the next 4-5 years. Ray Allen will.

Walk the talk, Bulls.

by JLbuLL on Jan 15, 2012 1:17 AM CST up reply actions

Im not thinking past 2012 with this trade.

I would also target chris kaman in the off season. So many trade proposals posted are lob sided to the bulls and dont work for both teams. This clearly works for boston long term and chicago short term. I prefer to gamble now and with boozer and deng not likely to get any better maybe its our best shot. Howard and kaman would me more intersted in a 2011-2012 championship bulls team with Allen than a ECF finalist with hamilton and noah.

I think we're being trolled softly here.

I hope we are.

i mean, im not thinking past next season (2012/2013) at this point.

A 2 yr deal would atleast give the bulls a trade option provided Allen’s extension is reasonable and he is healthy. No matter what the media reports (in relation to howard not wanting to come to chicago), we need to go all out for Howard. If the majic wanted Noah the deal would of got done by now. If we can luir Howard and sign him in the offseason then we are set for another dynasty. If we dont go all out for howard and we dont get rings you think rose will still be the company man? he might but i dunno. He is a hardcore competitor. Stops at nothing to win just like Jordan. You cant cage that beast. Eventually he will crack.

Dear Lord, I hate this line
I dont think we can get past the heat with our current squad.

I’m really sick to death of this notion that one series means that the winning team is untouchable. Last year’s Bulls team was good enough to get by Miami. They just didn’t get the job done.

seeing noah in a Cs jersey would be a pretty big mindfuck.

The reason this trade doesn't happen.

Cs don’t want to pair JoNo with KG. They’d kill each other.

by Doshi on Jan 15, 2012 6:28 AM CST up reply actions

i had no idea that KG and Noah were enemies.

Probaly because i was unable to watch most of last season. Maybe this trade isnt as probable as first thought if thats the case. Anyhow, point taken sir.

by haypete on Jan 16, 2012 3:27 AM CST up reply actions

I think it was 2009

During the First round playoffs when Noah, stated " He used to have a poster of KG in his bedroom". When he first entered the league he was eager to meet his idol, but instead KG not only ignored him but downright try to disrespect Noah. That though is the way KG is. He hates rookies and he especially hates everyone else that is not in a Celtics jersey. To quote Noah “I just don’t like the guy, and I don’t think i’m going to send him any Christmas presents.” But Noahs best line, “he’s really ugly”.

by Vortex51 on Jan 22, 2012 3:20 PM CST up reply actions

I think the reason it doesn't work is because it plain sucks for the Bulls

Allen is nice and all, but how about we give RIP a chance first. Also, if you’re gonna be dumb and trade Noah for a shooting guard, at least make sure it’s one his own age.

I'm getting too old for this shit...

future vs now

this trade is for now. the offseason and beyond is for the future. This trade could entice more talent to come to the bulls. But as Doshi pointed out, KG and Noah dont like each other. So its probably kaput.

by haypete on Jan 16, 2012 3:29 AM CST up reply actions

oh yes, it will definitley entice more talent to come here.. LeBron, Kobe, Durant, Stoudemire, Howard, Gasol, Wade and Anthony will fight to the damn death for our last roster spot if only we can aquire Ray Allen

nobody wants anything to do with us now that we ONLY have the MVP and the best regular season mark last year and the coach of the year and the executive of the year and noah and boozer and deng. but shit, if we somehow brought in Ray the fuck Allen, it will never be winter in chicago again and every star on the damn planet will break down Gar Paxdorf’s door asking to join.

I thought the trade machine was still down.

I know Noah isn’t having his best season, but if you’re trading him for anyone at this point, it’s for Dwight Howard.

i agree that dwight is the number 1 choice.

I think our best chance of getting dwight this offseason is to get another star that wont have a ridiculous salary and that can gel with other stars on the team. Allen fits the bill there.

by haypete on Jan 16, 2012 3:36 AM CST up reply actions

With the way the Celtics are freefalling

the Bulls can get Ray Allen for a 1st round pick soon.

The Celtics are, right now, 10th in the conference. Their 4 wins have come against Washington, Detroit, and the NJ Nets. Danny Ainge might need to break up the big 3 and start the rebuilding process if they dont turn it around soon.

by VaderMaul on Jan 15, 2012 2:22 PM CST reply actions

youre right.

i think that would more likely play out in the offseason though and with the heat having injury troubles we have a real good shot this season at the title. If we did trade for Allen, and won would dwight not seriously consider the bulls? he has stated that he wants to go to a team that can contend for the title. Aslong as the shoe business can be sorted then the bulls would be red hot favourites in this scenario.

by haypete on Jan 16, 2012 3:39 AM CST up reply actions

Your logic is all wrong

1) The Bulls had the best record in the NBA last season, and currently, have the best record in the EC this season. Yet, Dwight Howard would rather go to a 3-11 NJ Nets than consider the Bulls. I dont see how trading for a 36-year old SG would entice Howard to come to the Bulls.

2) The Bulls cannot sign Dwight Howard as a free agent; they can only trade for him. Yet, you propose trading away the Bulls’ best trade chip for Howard in Joakim Noah. If I am running the Magic, I would not even look at any offers from the Bulls if Joakim Noah is no longer on the team.

3) Trading away Noah seriously weakens the Bulls’ front court depth. The Bulls cant even sign Kurt Thomas like they did last year. If you look at some of the EC teams like the Pacers and the 76er’s (and Atlanta when Horford comes back), they would all have more front court depth than the Bulls without Noah.

Regardless of any slow start

Jermaine o Neal would be a terrible fit for us (much like he’s a terrible fit for the celtics, much like he’s just terrible these days).

I may consider this trade if it was Allen, Bass and their first round pick for Noah, as Bass gives us inside scoring from the post, Taj bc of how good he is defensively can hold minutes at the C spot and Asik is looking good (and if Sheed is healthy and fit that’s a nice post trade signing. But then again we are winning, I still love Noah and ain’t ready to deal him unless it is for a clear upgrade like howard

The kid's out of this world. He's got Allen Iverson speed, Jason Kidd's vision, Chauncey Billups' shooting ability and Michael Jordan's athleticism. How do you guard that? - Pacers coach Frank Vogel.

by majoyenrac on Jan 15, 2012 3:18 PM CST via mobile reply actions

bass is a better fit than oneal for sure.

bass has a player option for the 2012 season and Oneal is a FA. The point of this trade is to attract howard or the best centre available in the offseason. Something i didnt explain in the original post. My bad.

by haypete on Jan 16, 2012 3:44 AM CST up reply actions

If we can't attract Howard in the trade season

We won’t in the offseason. The hope though is if we did trade for him we might convince him to stay

A truly brave GM would have started it in the Summer of 2010.

Sure, they were still really good last year, but that’s what makes it a brave decision. Start the break-up before decline, when you can actually get something for the players.

The main issue with this are Injuries and age

O’neal is old by Center standards and has really bad knees. He has already missed significant time. Allen same thing with the bad knees. Both players are also in serious decline and their is not much future upside. You talk about the Bulls “winning now” and that is the ultimate problem with your trade logic here. Rose, the centerpiece, is only 23 and the majority of the team is under 30. You act as if our window to win a championship is small. Noah again is still young and has great potential and Rip is a consistent performer whose skill set is still just as good. Yet you want to trade team harmony, chemistry, and long-term future for an injury proned center and a malcontent shooter that loves to ball hog. This is why the bloggers here are raging at you. The Bulls biggest limitation is the Salary cap not some perception “stars” don’t want to come here. Heck I would take Tracy McGrady for free then trade away pieces for Allen.

I dont think this trade is that bad.

Ray allen would definitely be great for us and we can put Asik in the starting line-up and Our defense would be more tough. Jermaine is a decent enough back-up and he’s still better offensively than noah and especially asik imo so that may help the second unit out little bit. We would get some money off of the salary if I’m not mistaken by trading noah in the future and Mirotic would come from oversea’s maybe next year or the year after that and The bulls would still be in a great position. I think this was a pretty nice trade man.

Plus i think he might be a cancer in Thibs Locker Room

by lshaffer_69 on Jan 25, 2012 4:46 PM CST up reply actions

before Y, now N

I thought they should go after Ray before he signed his last contract, turns out I think he wanted to stick with Boston but sure looks like he can still play when I remember a lot of people thinking he was too old back then

but now I don’t think you give up Noah for him (and ONeil is done), especially when they already have Rip who hopefully when healthy will provide some jump shooting (of course not as many 3s)

by NY Chicago Fan on Jan 15, 2012 10:17 PM CST reply actions

i like rip too.

its a big call. but the idea is to attract howard or atleast do all we can to attract him. If we stay as we are we still have a good shot this season, especially “IF” boozer and lu can consistantly produce in the playoffs. Thats a big if and certainly no guarantee to get past the heat.

by haypete on Jan 16, 2012 4:16 AM CST up reply actions

With Rip being on this team

And CJ getting more chances we will not have to use Boozer as much. I think we have a shot at Boston. and we are not getting Howard so lets forget him. If he doesn’t want the worlds greatest city (Chicago) because of the Weather Screw him. Go to New York or LA Kobe is over the hill and the team will not be able to put the pieces together to win against the Bulls or the Heat.

by lshaffer_69 on Jan 25, 2012 4:51 PM CST up reply actions

Firstly, im a bulls fan for life.

Secondly, I think this year is a big time chance for the bulls to go all the way. We are one piece short. We can cover Noah’s departure and get that legit 2nd star/ scoring threat/ clutch leadership. Allen’s professional attitude would be a great fit and i think he has 2 to 3 years left in the tank bar any injuries. I also think we should go all out for howard even if his shoe endorsement conflicts with rose’s deal. As a backup plan we can pursue kaman in the offseason aswell as developing gibson and asik further. As for Oneal, it doesnt matter who they throw in. I just thought he could be useful and if theres a team he would behave on then surely its the bulls. His contract is over this season so he could be bought out if he was a cancer. Just like Sheed could if the bulls decide to try that experiment. If this trade hapenned, The bulls with allen would be a much more appealing team than the current bulls for any centre on the FA market this offseason.

and even I know this is bad.

how about a second round pick some cash and Kyle Korver

by lshaffer_69 on Jan 25, 2012 4:43 PM CST reply actions

For us that might be a decent deal but....

It all depends on the knees of Allen and the goal of the Celtics organization. For the most part their going for youth and potential. Something that Korver doesn’t have. More then likely they will ask for Noah to replace Garnett and/0r either the 2nd pick you offered or another youngest John Lucas or Starter Deng/Boozer. I know the Celtics will ask too much for us to make any trade possible. Their in a desperate situation and need to show their fans immediate value. Boston has gotten used to finally winning and not being the underdogs. In many respects their culture sadly has changed to that of the arrogant Yankees. Their already talking of trading Rondo and/or Pierce for pieces. Their panicking but still want max value because of their inflated self-interest. Allen is intriguing but I don’t think he that serviceable to us at this point.
