Sucks for Rondo

If there’s any game that can motivate Noah to get back into the swing of things, it’s tonight. Only the Heat piss him off more than the Celtics. Hopefully one of Garnett’s constipated glares is all it takes.

by NerdVernacular on Jan 13, 2012 12:52 PM CST reply actions

I don't think motivation is what's wrong with him.

People say it, but it certainly doesn’t seem to me like he’s just been “lazy” or “unmotivated”. More just “boneheaded” and sometimes over-thinking.

I also think that citing Noah's 'energy' or 'motivation' is lazy

Endurance seems more of a problem. He also just lacks either skill or strength to finish inside.

Finishing in the post has always been somewhat of a problem

but I don’t see him getting the crowd involved, chest beating, reacting on the bench – to the degree that he used to – a lot of which is a consequence of playing poorly.. Hopefully spending more time with the trainer eventually helps with that, but I think a lot of it is mental.

by NerdVernacular on Jan 13, 2012 2:08 PM CST up reply actions

I mean, that is all that matters really

but his poor play and lack of stamina aren’t exactly encouraging.

I expect this old team to give us a close game but the Bulls will win.

On the Noah situation
Thibodeau also was asked about the ongoing issues—-though he sees them as only media inspired—-of Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer not playing in the fourth quarter in about half the games thus far.

Thibodeau was direct when asked if he’d ever change the starting lineup.

"No!" he said.

"I think it’s one of our strengths," he said. "We have quality bigs up front. Where we are in our schedule it’s hard to play big guys extended minutes. The fact we have great depth allows us to rotate all four of those guys and they’ve all done a good job for us.

"We’re going to do what’s best for the team for winning," Thibodeau said. "Most times they (Noah and Boozer in the fourth quarter) are going to be out there. There are certain situations if teams are small and have shooting on the floor sometimes you have to change. Most of the time they are going to be out there."

Asked if he’s had to talk with Noah, Thibodeau seemed a bit exasperated.

"Noah’s fine," he said sharply. "His rebounding is fine. He’s been plagued with some foul trouble. He’ll be fine.

"I have a lot of confidence in (Taj Gibson and Omer Asik as well)," Thibodeau said. "You can make the case they are all starters. All four guys, we need them and we count on them."

I guess there's no one that can take deng's minutes..........oh wait, is there a fellow named Brewer

on the Bulls? I thought he could play a few mins at the 3. What about the depth at SF Thibs?! Why won’t you let Deng rest?!

On the J.R. Smith bandwagon until otherwise advised.

by BlackStar on Jan 13, 2012 2:43 PM CST up reply actions

Thibs is so full of it

Whether you think it matters who starts or finishes as it relates to wins and losses, the fact that 130 million bucks are on the bench when it’s winning time matters. Besides, I don’t want to hear him talking like extended minutes and depth when you just drafted a kid that can spell Deng and he refuses to play him a handful of minutes to rest Deng.

Noah & Boozer don’t fit. It’s a problem, was always a problem, and will always be a problem. Sit Boozer and start Taj.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Jan 13, 2012 3:40 PM CST up reply actions

Why is it a "problem"?

I mean, I understand that it’s not ideal, but with the record we have, and the fact that it’s still very early in the season, I have yet to see how this has any negative effect whatsoever.

The fact that Rose is even slightly hurting is about 10,000 times more important.

Sadly, my self worth is almost entirely based upon the outcome of the previous night's Bulls game.

by Juiceboxjerry on Jan 13, 2012 3:43 PM CST up reply actions

Because a "close to All-Star" Noah

and a “close as possible to functional and effective” Boozer is vital to beating the Heat. Screw W’s and L’s, it’s about beating the Heat. Thibs already knows this because you’ve seen Boozer play more minutes with the bench than he did last yea and the only reason Noah gets sat is because he likes Taj and Asik together.

Yes Noah is having a down year but I feel like he’s being scapegoated. I feel like he’s being paired with Boozer by default. What I saw from Noah before the injury and while Boozer was out was a guy putting up 15ppg and being a energetic force on the Bulls. He was the second best player on the team at the time. Unless he’s injured I can’t help but to think that he’s struggling playing next to Boozer. It’s the only other difference out there.

Thibs needs to bench Boozer, start Taj and let Boozer feast on backup PFs since he struggles to beat better PFs anyway. The fact that he won’t start him is because he doesn’t want a larger riff on this team. Boozer’s gotta sit.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Jan 13, 2012 3:50 PM CST up reply actions

your points are valid, but thibs will never not start boozer.

this is the guy that wouldn’t take bilbo fuckin bogans out of the starting lineup.

by obnoxious american on Jan 13, 2012 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

Because a “close to All-Star” Noah and a "close as possible to functional and effective" Boozer is vital to beating the Heat.

First of all, Boozer has at the very least been “functional and effective”. I mean you have to at least give him that. I would argue he’s been better, but I’d rather not go there. As for Noah, sure, he’s been shitty, but let’s give this thing some time before we completely write him off.

BUT, even if he does remain semi-shitty, I don’t see why that is “vital” to whether we beat the Heat or not. Omer and Taj have been outstanding, and they’re only getting better. If they keep laying like this, as well as steadily improving, I have no reason to believe they can’t be just as, if not MORE helpful than Noah, or Boozer.

No, it’s not these best sign for the future when you have two of your top players are on the bench at the end of games, but for THIS year (which is really all I’m choosing to give a shit about for the foreseeable future), why does it even matter? It’s not like Noah is being benched for Chris Richard. To me, this is more of a case where the backups are playing so well that it’s become hard for the coach to ignore

Sadly, my self worth is almost entirely based upon the outcome of the previous night's Bulls game.

by Juiceboxjerry on Jan 13, 2012 4:03 PM CST up reply actions

Because...

There are things a great playing Noah can do on both ends of the court that Asik can’t do. Don’t get me wrong, I love Asik a lot. Hell I’d like to see Asik and Noah at times but that hasn’t happened. But Noah at his best is a unique talent with intangibles that can’t be quantified. Don’t forget how good he was at the end of ‘09-’10 and the beginning of last year. He was so good that even people that thought it was laughable not to trade him for Melo started to shut up.

As for Boozer, I don’t have to give Boozer anything because his coach hasn’t. If Boozer was the player we all thought he would be or even as good as you believe he’s been there no way in hell that guy is sitting to end games. Be careful not to rationalize the great play of Taj and Asik with why Boozer isn’t playing. It’s not just that Taj is that good so it’s OK. No Boozer isn’t playing because he’s a detriment. He’s a terrible defender and even worse, a God awful fouler. Thibs literally can’t afford to play this guy when it matters. We seen it in the playoffs and we’re seeing it now.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Jan 13, 2012 4:15 PM CST up reply actions

about that "vital to beating the Heat" part

that’s 4 months away. we have plenty of time to figure out what is wrong with these guys and make the necessary adjustments. thibs is not full of it.
