Tex Winter's son gives an atrocious speech during his father's entry to the Hall of Fame class of 2011.....................

If there was a hall of fame for terrible, awkward speeches, this would be a first-ballot.

When NBA TV replayed the ceremony, they cut 12 out of the 14 minutes.

shouldve just had phil jackson speak

that was horrid by the son. Its your dads biggest achievment, and you are downplaying a vast majority of his accomplishments and ranting about things you like and see….it was….so….blech

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

Cut the guy some slack

A lot of people just aren’t very skilled at public speaking. This is probably the biggest stage Chris Winter’s ever been on. Factor in all the emotions that had to have been running through his head, and it’s easy to see why he might’ve choked.

Pat Riley is the devil.

i think my problem is that, he didnt choke..he just sucked

To me, him choking would have been a speech with tons of umms, and paper rustling, and lack of eyecontact, or just general freezing. That to me is more understandable.

This is more like, complete lack of preperation on his part. He had nothing prepared and just rambled on about things and used the poorest choices of words at times. If it was tex himself who did an impromptu, that wouldve been fine cuz i mean, its his award. But the son i felt didnt honor his father correctly by not being prepared.

I wouldve rather him sound like a robot reading off some scripted piece he wrote than what he ends up doing. I dont think it deserves a break. It was possibly the greatest award of his fathers life, and one that he said himself was long over due…and we got nothing from it.

Like i said, i honestly wish they just had phil jackson talk about him, it wouldve been a far better way of honoring tex’s legacy.

For one thing, it's got to be hard to prepare a speech like that when all your knowledge is second-hand.

Especially considering Tex’s mental condition and all that.

Also, he definitely had talking points and notes in front of him. The problem was that he kept rambling off on tangents, and once you start to go off-track, it’s hard to get back on. I guarantee you that he didn’t intend beforehand to spend two minutes talking about Brad Stevens. The same thing’s happened to me during job interviews. I’ll start talking about something, lose focus, and ramble on about something for way too long.

Pat Riley is the devil.

Yeah, that's a good point

but no one is expecting the guy to be Martin Luther King up there. Something short and sweet would have easily done the trick. Like Picco said, this didn’t seem like a case of nerves, it was almost like he was just unprepared or something.

In a way, it’s a real simple task. Just thank a bunch of people on your dad’s behalf (add more to it if he wanted you too), tell the audience what he meant to you in your life (as long as it’s good). Say another thank you, and gtfo.

Well, I've been trying to avoid watching this because I normally don't enjoy watching people

make complete asses of themselves, but after hearing about how bad it was for the 800th time, I had to give it a listen and… wow. What a dolt.

I liked Artis Gilmore's speech... very classy

You always were second best! And in this business, Bub, second best don't *cut* it!
