Insert lame joke about Carlos Boozer and luggage.

To go overseas you have to travel.
To travel you need laguage and bags.
To safely handle laguage and bago one needs . . . .

I'd be worried that Boozer would yell at the customs guys and get detained

I understand why players should go and play
The only problem is if you couldnt get healthy all NBA season then why dont you take that
Multi Million dollar deal you got last year and sit your ass down and play NBA 2k12. Also work out and stay fit.

Serious question (and apologies if this has been addressed here before)
If Boozer does play overseas and gets injured, would that do anything to his contract with the Bulls?
I think the usual protections against injury away from the NBA
are only in effect if his contract is in effect…so we’d be to a certain degree SOL if he hurt himself.
Then again, maybe we have insurance that, I hope, isn’t affected by the lockout
I doubt it
And even if there was some type of clause that would let the Bulls void his contract, Reinsdorf may choose not to exercise it. When Jay Williams got hurt, JR could’ve voided his contract, but he chose not to.
Pat Riley is the devil.

jay williams wasn't making
$15 million/year and was a very promising young player. boozer is old, injury prone and on the downside of his career. JR felt bad for the kid whereas boozer has already made enough that he shouldn’t have to support someone thru an injury.

Do you really think the Chicago Bulls would be a better team without Carlos Boozer?
Consider the fact that, even without Boozer’s salary on the books, the Bulls will still essentially be out of cap room.*
Consider the fact that, without Boozer, our best PF would be Taj Gibson, an injury-prone player who would be one of the worst, if not the worst offensive starting PF in the league on a team that desperately needs more offense.
Consider the fact that if Taj was thrust into a starting role, our frontcourt depth, which was one of our biggest strengths last year, would be virtually nonexistent.
Consider that fact that, throughout his career, Boozer has been one of the best offensive PFs in the league and one of the best rebounding PFs in the league, according to all known metrics. Even last year, one of his worst years as a pro, he was still well above average, statistically.
Consider the fact that, when Boozer was healthy, the Bulls went 47-12. Extrapolating that to a full season puts them at 65-17, indicating that the Bulls were definitely a better team with Boozer than without him.
*This is obviously dependent on the new CBA.

i still think taj starting helps us more than it hurts
we almost beat miami with an omer/taj front court combo and rose being the only offensive player on the court.
give him a shooter out there like jr or mayo and i’d say a healthy noah/taj could lock down teams.
youre right about the depth taking a hit but id assume we’d be able to find some serviceable backup
Should've traded for Melo.
by sin on Aug 11, 2011 3:33 AM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
How would you propose we get Mayo or JR Smith?
We could probably find a serviceable backup PF using the MLE (assuming there still is an MLE), but then there goes our shot at JR Smith or Jason Richardson . As it stands, we have a 4 good big men in Boozer, Noah, Taj and Asik, which means that we have the flexibility to move one of them to get a SG like Mayo. But without Boozer, that flexibility goes out the window. The bottom line is that Boozer, despite all his flaws, is a good player and giving him away won’t make us better.
Pat Riley is the devil.
When Boozer is healthy he IS a dominant offensive player.

when boozer is playing with deron williams and coached by jerry sloan he is a dominant offensive player
Should've traded for Melo.
So the 20 and 10 he averaged for the Bulls in 29 games was a fluke, right?

False
Boozer’s 2nd season in the league, when he was with Cleveland, was one of his best. His first season in Utah, before DWill got there was also pretty good. His numbers were down a bit last year, but they were still well above average.

that first sentence makes no sense
they’re only out there for stretches of the game, someone else worse would have to play in the remaining minutes.

I think they certainly play better without him.
Do they need him? Yeah, for those moments they’re looking for low post scoring but there’s a reason he doesn’t play late in the fourth, cause Thibs don’t trust him on D and that is what this team is built on.
that last paragraph's reasoning doesnt indicate anything "definitely".
"Jimmer is going to take one of those crazy 3s, and DeMarcus Cousins is going to come at him like a rhino."
-Basketball Smurf
The Bulls had a significantly better winning % when Boozer was active
And that’s in spite of the fact that Noah was out for many of the games where Boozer was healthy. If you want to chalk some of that up to schedule imbalance, fine, by I think it’s pretty definite that the Bulls were better with Boozer.
Pat Riley is the devil.
me too, but not bvecause of the reason you gave.

How is Taj Gibson injury prone?
He may have dealt with plantar fasciitis in his rookie year, and ankle injury last year, but he almost never missed any games because of them. He has played in 162 out of possible 164 games in his first 2 years.
Taj also averaged about 12ppg for the Bulls at the beginning of the season when Boozer was injured. Boozer is definitely a better offensive player than Gibson, but to call Taj the worst offensive starting PF is quite a hyperbole.
I am not saying the Bulls should try to void Boozer’s contract (not yet anyway), but I also dont think there would a huge dropoff if Taj is suddenly thrust into the starting PF job.
Then there is always MIROTIC! Yes, I went there…
Just because he hasn't missed many games doesn't mean he's not injury-prone
Taj’s plantar fasciitis problem has been a recurring one; it showed up again back in November of this past season. Whenever a player experiences the same exact injury multiple times, it’s a very worrisome sign. Throw in the ankle injury, the turf toe he suffered towards the end of last season and I’d call Taj injury-prone.
I don’t know where you got your 12 ppg number from. In 19 games started last year, Taj averaged 10.2 ppg on a .509 TS%. That’s pretty low production from a starting PF. Go through the names and give me one guy who was less effective offensively.
Pat Riley is the devil.

Every player deal with nagging injuries during the NBA season
Derrick Rose dealt with ankle injuries the last 2 seasons. Kobe Bryant has his arthritic finger. According to you, they would also be “injury-prone”.
As for less effective starting PFs:
1) Kris Humphries averaged 10ppg last year in his “breakout” season, and he is now asking for $6+ million per year.
2) Serge Ibaka averaged 9.9 ppg and is valued by the Thunders.
3) the PFs in Phoenix are worse, so they started 2 centers most of last season.
4) Drew Gooden averaged 11.3 PPG on 0.487 TS%.
by VaderMaul on Aug 13, 2011 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
Using PPG as the be-all and end-all of offensive production?
You’re smarter than that. Humphries and Ibaka are both far more efficient scorers than Taj. Ibaka’s one of the best in the league at finishing at the rim, while Taj is awful at it.
Phoenix Suns you say? Their usual starter last year was Channing Frye, whose floor-spacing ability makes him far superior to Taj offensively. Defensively, Taj is way better, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.
Drew Gooden was injured last year. When he’s healthy, he’s a better scorer than Taj.
Pat Riley is the devil.
Taj is better than Gooden though
I mean, goodness.

Actually, I'll even concede that Taj is a better offensive player than Gooden
APM paints a pretty awful portrait of Gooden. -2.8 on offense, -2.0 on defense. Blech.

whatever helps his confidence.
although a guy like him may not have lost any even after some of the court crapping he did in the playoffs.
