Michael Redd, anyone?
Since I get about 80% of my non-stupid-storyline-related basketball info from Sham, I was interested when he mentioned Michael Redd semi-seriously as the Bulls top SG candidate post-draft night. I knew Redd was expiring, but I figured the prospect of signing him would be greeted with about the same enthusiasm as tmac last summer (meaning a lot, mostly from stupid people). But Sham is not stupid people, and I'm not entirely sure he was kidding, and there's nothing else to talk about (except my adopted Euroleague team signing Sonny Weems, which is about a hundred times better than my NBA team drafting him), so why not discuss it.
Assuming it's post-knee injury Michael Redd, not post-knee Michael Redd, and given the prohibitive cost, baggage, and (uh) destruction of defensive identity involved with JRich, JR Smith and Sam's batshit Deng-for-Ellis proposal, respectively, it's not hard to see him as a legitimate option, IMO. He's not exactly Greg Oden - re-tearing a ligament is pretty common if you don't give it enough time to heal, and he'll certainly have that now with the lockout. I assume Skiles was just doing Redd a solid, but he did say Redd was at 100% back in April, and that's more than anybody said about tmac last summer or Azubuike at the deadline.
What bugs me is that he was a shitty defender before the gimpy knee and the three years of rust. The spot where the Bulls need to slot in a scorer/creator is the same spot used to mask rose's defensive shortcomings, and Redd ain't doing that. You can imagine that with a little less lateral quickness and speed on the floor, he's gonna suddenly have a real lack of give-a-shit on the "other" end of the floor, especially since he'll probably get a short contract and want to put up points so as to get another one. So, is there any chance this guy adds more than he takes away?
This argument sucks because there's basically no one in the right price range that can satisfy the offensive and defensive needs. Courtney Lee comes close, but he's still overpriced by about six inches of Turkish Delight (heh...heh). So there's every chance Bogans remains the best option in the pile of castoffs and has-beens. But Redd is an interesting option at least. Cast your vote:

If he's really 100%, then sure. But he definitely didn't play like it in the last ten games of the season.

michael redd at his best is a taller ben gordon
But I doubt he’s ever going to be at his best and I think ultimately he’s a worse defender than Gordon ever was despite having good height. I guess imagining having another bad defender along with boozer in the starting lineup scares me quite a bit. Our next sg doesn’t have to be a great defender….just not a bad one…and pre-surgery read was a bad defender…post surgery read can’t be much better.
I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

yeah i think thats probably right
although im intrigued by the possibility of giving brewer bogans’ minutes, giving redd brewer’s old minutes with the defense-heavy bench mob, and keeping korver in his closer role. that allows brewer to still back up deng a little

i thought the assumption was
A taller Ben Gordon could actually guard 2 guards (?) id much rather have the real bg7 not a taller more injury probed and prob worse defender (dudes like korver defensively despite having such great length and athleticism…wtf). Having less brewer and essentially 2x the korver I don’t think puts us at a great advantage really. I wouldn’t mind redd at a cheap price tag..but I doubt he’d come cheap…

well a tall BG would be a guy with all the size and none of the desire to guard SGs.
but i dont get how the rest connects to my comment. what i said involves almost exactly the same amounts of brewer and korver

Didn't we always want a taller Ben Gordon?
I’m not sure I really want Redd – I didn’t give an opinion in my OP linked to via this OP – but if his knee is ever going to be acceptable again, then Redd;s usage and strengths are obvious. Warts and all.

Come on our best case scenario should be JR Smith, and worst case J-Rich actually it shoould be either/or
and nobody in between!
My name is EARL
I've been persuaded that we should take a risk on Smith.
The only reason we could afford him is because of his character issues, but he’s worth the risk.

Micheal Redd is stil in the league? He’s like 40 years old right…well the guy has had injury problems for a good while. He should hang up his cleats. I don’t think he would be a good signing for any team.
He could be a good
bench pick-up for a team at the vet minimum, he has to play limited minutes, 10-15 a game, and just give him the green light in those limited minutes.

Nooooooooo.
As someone who’s followed the Bucks for a few years, Redd probably isn’t going to be right again.

I'm extremely skeptical that he's better than Kyle Korver at this point in his career
