[A bit of housecleaning, added 'Monta8Mixes' Derrick Rose Youtube to the bottom. -ed.]
Yes, it's true. Among all American male athlete's our Derrick Rose is now #9 in the hearts of Americans. I was just going to fanshot this, but I formulated some opinions, one thing lead to another and well, there you go. :)
It is an extra sweet victory considering he beat out everyone's favorite cheesehead Aaron Rodgers AND... you know it, LeBron James who has completely fallen out of the top 10 thanks for taking his talents to South Beach. Not two years ago was he #3 on this Harris Poll and now he's no where to be found.
Withstanding the test of time is his Airness, Michael Jordan who, despite his front-office follies, remains loved in the hearts of Americans for his Chicago Bulls/Space Jam exploits. He's strong at #4.
The only aspect of these polls that left me flabbergasted had nothing to do with the men's poll, but the women's. Serena Williams is the most popular women's athlete in America. The 'Mike Tyson Beast' (which I read in the Yahoo! Sports comment section of a blog entry made after she was she lost in the last Major... and something that still makes me bust a gut over 2 weeks later) is personally my least favorite athlete. I find her attitude more deplorable than anything LeRod has ever said. But, there are not too many female American athletes for anyone to hold onto and no one other than our Dennis Hopson even watches the WNBA. So there you have it.
Stay in the gym, D-Rose. Why can't you be #1?
