There was also this interesting tidbit from Wilbon's column:
When the Bulls take the court against the Magic or Hawks, Rose will be presented, at the United Center, with his MVP trophy, though he still winces at the suggestion, especially with the playoffs just beginning.
He said this on April 27. He throws in the fact that Derrick winces at the suggestion, but nevertheless, made me wonder: what does he know?

I doubt he "knew" anything at the time.
I think it was a combination of (a) his assumption (which was most people’s assumption) that Rose was going to win, hands down, and (b) his knowledge that the MVP announcement would come in the second round.
