oh god

my recurring nightmare :( :(

Look
I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

Guess who shoots worse than Bogans?

Pargo.

I always wondered where Pargo ever got his reputation. He’s been a horrible shooter for his entire career. He jacks up so many shots that occasionally he gets lucky and hits a few in a row. So they say he’s just a “streaky” shooter and capable of getting hot. That means nothing. Every player, even the worst ones, are capable of getting hot every once in a while! Seriously, you can blindly pick about any D-league player and I have more faith he would be more productive than Pargo.

Pax doing his best Isiah Thomas impersonation

or maybe MJ impersonation…hey, this guy sucked once, let’s see if he still sucks when I sign him again!

Do you know who this kid is? He is from Chicago.

Isiah THomas is the worst in trades

this, this is just looking in the trash and eating a half eaten piece of pizza.

I remember once former Bull Dave Corzine staring at a stat sheet after a loss when he had one rebound and Michael Jordan offering, "One more rebound than a dead man."

Are you kidding me….this guy is literally the worst NBA player ever. He plays no defense and he doesn’t do anything productive on offense. Seriously, just give a contract to some random dude off the streets who is willing to hustle and play D and do nothing but pass on offense. It’d be better than this bum throwing the ball at the hoop every time he sees the ball.

I think if I saw Bogans and Pargo on the same bench I would spontaneously combust.

I didn't want to type this sentence, the force from an Omer Asik dunk made my fingers do it.

How about on the court not bench?

General manager needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen.

Besides Thibs, I think the only thing the Bulls hit on this offseason was signing Brewer.

The reason we’re so damned amazing this year is because of the core we already had in place.

I liked the Kurt Thomas and CJ Watson additions a bit as well but think about what they’re doing with all that money they worked hard to get.

Boozer and Korver are a bit overpaid for the contributions they bring to the team.

Let’s look at what followed: Bogans, Scalabrine, Butler and now maybe Pargo. Good lord.

by Option27 on Mar 19, 2011 1:29 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

Meh, I think they did well

I really like what Korver brings. They just whiffed hard when it came to filling the shooting guard hole. You can pretty much tell they had no clue the team would be this good, or they mighr’ve gotten more creative. Plus, Thibs needs to lose his attachment to Keith and try and think outside the box, maybe give Butler a shot. Although I don’t know if there’s enough upside in that move to risk the defensive chemistry this team has.

They just needed to offer

More to Redick. Enough that the Magic wouldn’t have matched. I’d rather have him and be a complete team than have had the space to sign Rasual Butler.

I still think having Korver or Brewer in certain stretches instead of Bogans will help more than some think.

If we can have someone actually score in a first quarter besides the usual suspects. Also Brewer and Korver are both just smarter players than Bogans to me. I see them move the ball effectively. (plus their chemistry with Boozer is always apparent to me)

Agreed.

In retrospect, re-signing Gordon or keeping Kirk, signing Brewer/Korver/Asik, and signing Amare would have been our best offseason.

PG-Derrick Rose/Kirk Hinrich
Sg-Kirk Hinrich/Ronnie Brewer
SF-Luol Deng/Kyle Korver/Ronnie Brewer
PF-Amare Stoudemire/Taj Gibson
C- Joakim Noah/Omer Asik/Kurt Thomas

Oh well, we’re still the best team in the East, and have flexbility to make future moves.

We would have had ~16 million in cap space after signing Amare (assuming we gave him the same deal as NYK)

I guess we would have had to cut out signing Kyle Korver if we had signed Amare and kept Kirk. But we could still have gotten Brewer and Asik, and then would have had $3 million extra to spend on someone else.

I would have still preferred that over what we have now.

I very much disagree with you

We definitely needed a PF, and I think it’s pretty clear in hindsight that Boozer was, if not the best option, pretty damn close. If you’d prefer Bosh, or David Lee at this point, you need your head checked. Obviously many folks will say they prefer Amare, but I’m not convinced he’s any better than Boozer on the whole. I’m convinced that Boozer’s the superior defender and he’s a far more willing passer, which I think has a bigger effect than you think. And before someone tells me that Amare actually has a higher assist rate this year, I’ll say that I think that’s a very misleading figure and that Amare’s in a better position to rack up assists because of the system that he plays in. I think I’d still rather have Amare because of Boozer’s age/injury history, but Boozer’s being cheaper balances things out. And there were no other truly viable PF options (don’t you dare bring up Tyrus Thomas).

And I think you’re dead wrong on Korver. I’d even go as far as to say that he was the best Bulls’ offseason pickup. Korver’s passing ability has impressed me a great deal, and I think that really separates him from other guys who can shoot the lights out like Anthony Morrow.

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Mar 19, 2011 4:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I wanted Amare over the other big men, because he is so much better of a scorer.

Amare over the past few years has been among the league leaders in scoring, while being among the league leaders in TS%. I think one year he averaged 25 points and led the entire league in TS%.

And I’d take Amare’s defense over Boozer/Bosh/Lee. Amare can play some pretty mean defense because of his strength, length, and athleticism. I think if Thibodeau was able to get to him, he could be a bit of an imposing force on defense…something Boozer and Bosh clearly are not.

Sorry but Amare's defense is flat-out awful

He’s always terribly positioned and he just does so many things wrong that he’s at his own level of bad, compared to the other guys. And after being in the league so many years, you have to be naive to think that he can turn it around. Although I suppose if anyone can get him to do it it’s Thibs.

pargo is clearly an awful version of cj, but the larger issue is this: didnt the brass watch

any bulls games last year? and if they did, how could they possibly devote a “serious look” to pargo? this is the kind of move where you think, “even if the bulls got a stats division, so what— they might not even be able to read.”

They better not do it. The bulls really need to use the D-League more often. I think Garrett Temple might be available

This is depressing

The fact that Jannero Pargo even crossed the minds of the Bulls brass is just so disheartening. I really want to believe that Gar and Pax know what they’re doing, but it’s just so hard to give them the benefit of the doubt when you hear stuff like this.

Pargo still lives in Chicago, or close to Chicago

I play poker at Horshoe, Hammond. I see this guy quite often.
I don’t play there all the time, I’d say probably 3-4 times a month.
But I saw this guy numerous time there playing (2-5 NL cash game)
With the money he’s made, it was surprising to see him play small cash games. ($500 max buy-in for $2/$5N/L) He’s not going all out with big cash game and keeping it humble in a way, or he knows he’s not that good LOL. I also play $2/$5 NL game, and I know my bankroll is way way below Pargo.^^
I also saw him few times playing $110 twice a week tourney. I know he’s not playing for money, but for the love of poker.

Few month ago, when Paul Pierce was in town for the game, (it was a day or 2 before Bulls Celtic game) I saw him at the horshoe poker room playing either $5-$10 straddle or $10-$20 game) He had at least 3-4g worth of chips in front of him. He was sitting there like a true baller with fancy shades on. (Not like Pargo)

I think Pargo has been trying to re-sign with the Bulls, hitting gym and playing poker in his spare time. He seems to be nice guy and all, but

I think he should just stick to playing poker instead of trying to come back to NBA, especially to Bulls.

We already have seen what he brings to the table, and his game does not belong in Chicago Bulls that is contending for the ECF and possibly NBA final.

A lot of celebrities play $2/5 NLHE, doesn't mean they're broke

Orel Hershiser, James Woods, and Marlon Wayans come to mind as $2/5 regs at the Bellagio. I saw Tim Duncan and CP3 playing $2/5 at Caesers during the Olympic practices in Vegas as well.

For the celebs who have a true love of poker, the stakes aren’t going to mean much to these guys regardless of what limit they’re playing. I’m guessing they play more to be competitive, not necessarily to gamble huge amounts of money.

I’m not sure, but I don’t think Paul Pierce is a very serious poker player (I’ve never heard his name come up in poker circles); when you saw him he was probably just playing for pure gamble vs. the other guys who seem to have some kind of motivation to actually learn the game and master it, which you would do by starting at the lower limits.

by slowmotion on Mar 21, 2011 12:04 AM CDT up reply actions

Seriously, though

what possible difference does it make who sits at the end of the bench and gets no playing time. Do you really expect Pargo to get any meaningful minutes. We didn’t upgrade at shooting guard…we’ll have to wait till next year. The last four seats on the bench are fodder/insurance. You will all be thrilled to see Pargo on the floor, because that will mean that we are winning by a blowout. Relax, we are on our way to a 60 win season and a 1st seed in the playoffs. Pargo will do nothing to change that.
