Possible trade for Melo

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4nee9uq

This trade sends Carmelo, Martell Webster, and Shelden Williams to the Bulls.

The Timber Wolves would receive Luol Deng, Ronnie Brewer, and a second round pick from the bulls

The nuggets would receive Corey Brewer, Omer Asik, Taj Gibson, James Johnson the Minnesota first round pick and the Charlotte pick from the bulls.

Why do it:

If you are Chicago you are assembling an Elite group of four studs with Rose, Melo, Boozer, and Noah. People have

been right to say that Deng has been very good this year and he is a valuable member of this team, however we are

talking about Carmelo Anthony one of the top five players in the league, the bulls front office is crazy to not be all over

trying to get him. We also get a great role player in Martel Webster and a solid back up at PF in williams.

If you are Minnesota you are two great defenders on a team that has been poor to say the least. They also add a

player into their starting line up who will play great as a third scoring option behind beasley and kevin love. Adding

Deng could make them a legit team is Rubio ever joins and Flynn continues to develop. Not to mention a second

round pick.

If you are Denver you get two solid bigs with potential to grow into starters with Taj and Asik (Not to mention they come extremely cheap). They also get two young guys with potential in brewer and jj. Plus two first round picks. To me this seems much better than the packages that New York and LA are offering.

The big question for me is "Are Gar Forman and John Paxson even pursuing a trade for Melo?"  I know we have been having a great season this year and I am as excited as anyone, but to pass up on a chance to get a talent like Carmelo Anthony seems very foolish.

Uhhh, no...

We get an upgrade at SF, which is already a position of strength for this team, by significantly downgrading SG (and IMO PF and C). Considering that SG is already a team weakness, I’d rather use JJ, Brewer, and the picks to grab a starting caliber SG. I would like to hold on to Taj and Sheek for completely different reasons. I know that Taj has basically maxxed out his potential in this league. But I also believe that he’s a very valuable backup to a position that’s very difficult to fill. And Sheek has tons of potential, just needs a good coach like Thibs to bring it out.

Also, I doubt that Minnesota does this for money reasons. They’re offloading about 8 mil and taking back 16. I get the feeling that’s a very frugal franchise (what with the 12 mil in cap space), and I doubt they’ll want to raise their payroll by that much for what is probably a minor upgrade at best.

NO.

We’re above average at 4/5 positions, excellent at arguably 3/5 and below average at just 1. Common sense says bring up that last one and we’re a contender. Common sense also says that Denver are very unlikely to push for a trade for Anthony as hes after saying he’d have to look hard to resigning in Denver. I think they’d rather take a chance than trade him for left overs.

once we get slam by the heat or magics then you would consider getting melo

Not having melo wouldn't be the reason why

I don’t know how having holes on defense at the 3 and 4 positions helps, when 2 of the big 3 play….the 3 and the 4.

So we could ... uh ... lose to them more or something?

CDR and Courtney Lee: just two players the Bulls could have at SG this year.

A core of Rose, Melo, Boozer, and Noah will be feared in the East.

I like the trade idea, but I don’t think Brewer should be traded at all. I think the Bulls pull it off without giving Asik and Taj, but just one.

Bulls Get: Melo & Shelden
Nuggets Get: C-Brew, Taj, JJ, T-Wolves 1st, and Bobcats 1st
T-Wolves Get: Deng

Denver would never do that deal anyway.

We supposedly offered Deng,Taj and the Charlotte pick for Melo before, so I could see us adding Omer and JJ to sweeten the pot. With the Nets offering Cousins and a lottery pick though, and Lakers willing to trade Bynum, I don’t think Corey Brewer and Taj would get Denver too excited.

I've said it once and I'll say it again

Carmelo Anthony is not remotely a top 5 player in this league.

It doesnt matter if he’s top 10 or not, he 1000 x better than deng and you looking for a a guy who can create his own shot and who’s consistent. melo is the guy! Melo equals titles, and deng isn’t going get the bulls there. Just wait! I’m going to expose all of you melo haters

Who's a Melo hater?

Not me. He’s great. But he’s not top 10 and he’s not worth exchanging Deng for unless he comes with an Afflalo package. Then I’ll gladly include Deng, Taj and some picks.

He's more like 1.2 times as good as Deng

Which is better, but isn’t a huge upgrade we should blow up the team for.

by tuluse on Feb 11, 2011 8:09 PM CST up reply actions

You're going to 'expose' the Melo haters?

Ha! That’d be funny if it weren’t sad and pathetic. No, on second thought, it is funny.

If Melo can’t expose the Melo haters, what makes you think that you can??

The question is not whether Melo is better than Deng. The question is whether the Bulls should trade a bunch of players and picks for him.

Melo is the guy only if the Bulls want an upgrade on offense and a downgrade on defense, rebounding, and every other part of the game. I’d prefer to see the Knicks trade half their roster for Melo, so the Knicks could suck into oblivion, thank you very much.

Melo is definitely NOT worth trading Deng, Ronnie Brewer, Taj Gibson, Omer Asik, and the first-round pick from Charlotte as this idiotic post suggests.

by Sweetness Lives On on Feb 12, 2011 12:02 PM CST up reply actions

Just off the top of my head, guys that are currently ahead of Melo:

James, Wade, Howard, Paul, Durant, Kobe, Deron, Gasol, Dirk, Nash, Ginobili, probably Duncan still too. Some of those guys are going to fall off soon, but then you have young guys who are moving up to fill the void. It’s arguable that Rose, Westbrook, Griffin, and Love are already on par with Melo, if not better.

If Rose can make 10- 15 FTs a game, make consistent 3’s game and make clutch plays a game then i’ll considered he is par with melo, but rose is not better not even near. Melo is the top 5 clutch player in the league, why wouldn’t want this guy your team

by Supasam on Feb 12, 2011 10:27 AM CST up reply actions

FYI, not ONE PERSON in the NBA makes more than 10 FTs / game

Durant makes 8 / game and that leads the league. Melo makes 6.9 FT / game.

by drock8686 on Feb 12, 2011 12:37 PM CST up reply actions

Melo is nowhere near consistent from 3 pt range, ok he hit a couple gamewinners and now he’s “clutch”. The man can score, he’s maybe top 5 as far as scoring ability but overall GTFO

by C Smoove on Feb 12, 2011 9:57 PM CST up reply actions

Ok dumbfuck. Here’s a list of superior players to Melo

D Howard
Kobe
Wade
LeBron
Paul
D. Williams
Stoudemire
Durant
Rose
Gasol
Ginobili

on the bubble
Westbrook
Aldridge
Love
Griffin

Some of those are questionable but Samson Simpson, I stick by my story.

by C Smoove on Feb 12, 2011 9:55 PM CST up reply actions

Nice list

Maybe Nowitzki too. Al Horford’s been a stud this year, and Nash can still dish the ball.

If the goal is to acquire a pure scorer who can put up 25 points per game on 45% shooting, I’d prefer Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin, or Eric Gordon – at least they’d fill a huge void (Bogans), rather than replacing a good all-around player (Deng).

Stop the madness

This has to be the worst trade proposal I’ve seen yet.

Deng, Brewer, Gibson, Asik, JJ and the 1st-round pick from Charlotte, for Melo, Webster, and Williams? Horrible.

The Bulls would have an even bigger hole at SG while decimating their front-line.

How could the Bulls possibly trade Gibson and Asik, keeping in mind the injuries to Boozer and Noah this season? They have great front-court rotation in place for 4-5 years with those four players, along with one of the top 2-3 PGs in the NBA, a damn fine all-around player in Deng, and a pretty competent bench.

They only need to fill the hole at SG (e.g. Courtney Lee or OJ Mayo) without giving up one of their top starters or bench players (using the first-round pick from Charlotte, future first-rounders if necessary, cash, JJ, Bogans, etc), and they’ll be in the ECF, at least, for the near future.
