Quick personal intro (before the Mirotic stuff): I've never posted or commented here before, but often stop by because of the insight and humor. As for my basketball knowledge, I guess I'd consider myself an "eye-test" guy rather than an "x and o" guy. Anyway, no need to to keep talking about myself.
I know Mirotic has been discussed before, mainly during the lockout boredom, but all this free agent talk (rumor-mongering) is driving me nuts. Mirotic tearing it up is something tangible and good news is always welcome, so....
I just watched Real Madrid play Maccabi Tel Aviv (a good team) and Mirotic had 26 points with four three-pointers, 8 boards, one assist and 67% from the field (and one vicious one-handed jam in someone's face). His stroke from three-point range is super smooth and very quick (almost effortless). He appears to have no problem down low fighting for boards, and he has a clue when trying to post up his defender. In Madrid's offense there is no real opportunity or need for him to break down defenders off the dribble, so it's difficult to tell how good his handles are.
What has me most pleasantly surprised is his combination of size with the aforementioned shooting touch. On any given possession he's either posting up his man (drawing fouls), floating on the perimeter or both. He doesn't seem like the quickest of dudes - and he'll probably have his struggles adjusting to guarding NBA guys - but he'll be a weapon on the offensive end for sure.
I could definitely see him coming in for Boozer or even Deng, depending on the situation. He's definitely better right now than some of the rookies coming in to the league this year.
