The NBA will not be calling shooting fouls on so-called "rip-through" moves, wherein a shooter throws his arms into a defender as he shoots in order to draw contact.

forget Paul Pierce
Kevin Durant must be in shock. His fts might drop by 2 a game.

The NBA also said they were going to start calling technicals for egregious flopping.
As if they would call the one move that allows Kevin Durant to be a 30 ppg scorer instead of 25.

You beat me to it, since my next question was:
Are they going to stop calling fouls from phantom elbows?
they were supposed to cut down on flopping last season
and i didn’t see it happen. i’ll believe it when it happens.

Exactly.
The league needs to start fining players for egregious players if their referees won’t enforce the rules. Not only that, but for repeat offenders (I’m looking at you Ginobili), the fines need to get progressively steeper, with suspensions becoming an option at some point. Of course, the league won’t need to go to those measures if referees enforce the rule in the games, but until then something needs to be done.

If my memory is correct, this didn’t go through because the union said they’d fight it or something along those lines.
I hope I can say I did my best, achieved a lot and won a couple of world championships. - Michael Jordan, circa 1984.
damn, right when rose was finally learning to take advantage of the rules too...

Nah, even though he was going to the line more, he didn't resort to that cheapness

not yet
but i’m sure that he was gonna start taking advantage like the other players. why wouldn’t he? if it’s a rule and legal, there’s nothing wrong with doing it (see durant, kevin)

good, i always thought it looked stupid
when a shooter did that to get the call. And I HATED when the announcers praised such action by calling it a “veteran” move.

Is this a different move from the "pump fake, get opponent in the air and throw yourself
at him to get the call"? They were supposed to stop that as well and I still see players using it.
On the J.R. Smith bandwagon until otherwise advised.
That is a foul though
Getting the player in the air coming at you and then putting up a shot is a foul.

i believe he meant when the defender goes straight up
and the player (aka paul pierce) jumps forward into him and jacks up something embarrassing for everyone involved.

Yeah, that was my point. If they jump Straight up, as opposed to jumping into the player.
On the J.R. Smith bandwagon until otherwise advised.
Oh, I see.
Even that still isn’t a foul. A defender is permitted all the vertical space they can occupy as long as they elevate straight up in the air.

I was impressed
that they actually let Asik get away with jumping straight up on numerous occasions.
Yeah, CP3 did that move on Rose that one game last season.
I was pretty pissed. At least NO still lost the game…
while were at it,
can we stop calling shooting fouls on contact with the arm on jump shots where the ball is already released?

Sorry, I'm gonna go meatball and keep screaming...
Until this becomes an offensive foul.

So instead of calling it a shooting foul from the start, you gotta do it a bunch of times for it to be a shooting foul
A foul is still a foul, and though it won’t be called a shooting foul if a team is out of the penalty, all you need are a few rip-throughs to earn your team the penalty nod and a trip to the line.

Awesome
I fucking despise that garbage. That move single-handedly made me dislike Kevin Durant

I was surprised I had to scroll this far down
to read Durant’s name. The first thing I thought when I heard of this is that they should call it the Kevin Durant rule. If they actually enforce this, it’s going to cut Durant’s free throw attempts in half.
durant's name
was mentioned as a reply to the third comment…
Look
I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

This should help Derrick, I would hope...
Referees also will be hyper-vigilant about defenders making contact with offensive players when they’re in the air and fully extended attempting to score. In most cases, expect that kind of foul to draw a Flagrant Level 2, which is two free throws, possession of the ball and the defender being ejected.
Dwight will finally get ejected
assuming he’s not on the Bulls.
