I've never been a keen follower of the Big East so I never had a chance to watch Jimmy Butler play in college. The only things I know about him can be boiled down to this Chad Ford article and his nbadraft.net profile. I've been able to find a few other tidbits from fluff pieces that talks about his commitment to "team basketball" and I enjoyed this article that said he eventually wants to be able to guard the elite perimeter players in the NBA
His backstory is incredible and I fully understand why the Org. would want another high-character player who is going to work hard and be defensive-oriented (because that's probably the best you can do with the last pick in the first round).
Hopefully, he can replicate Wes Mathews (another Marquette alum) and turn into the "3 and D" guy we're looking for to start at shooting guard (that way, we wouldn't have to give up Gibson, Asik, the Charlotte pick or Mirotic)...but I have no idea if that's possible because I didn't really watch him in college.
For those who are a little more educated on Big East basketball, what are your expectations for Butler? Do you expect him to play this year? Can he eventually turn into a Wes Matthews/Arron Afflalo-type player?
