When the Bulls traded Hinrich to the Wizards, they got back the draft rights to Vladimir Veremeenko. It seemed that this was just a formality. The Bulls were required to get something back in the trade by league rules, but Veremeenko was never going to come to the NBA and Hinrich to the Wizards was simply a salary dump.
But with KC Johnson and others casually bringing up that the Bulls may have to choose one (or none) of Gibson and Asik because of the luxury tax, would it be possible for the Bulls to give Veremeenko a call and try and convince him to come play in Chicago? Veremeenko was originally drafted by the Wizards in 06. He is 27 years old, and is a 6 foot 10 inch 235lb power forward.
I saw this video on youtube of highlights from him, and he looks like he could be a pretty nice addition to the bench. If the Bulls lose both Gibson and Asik, they could in theory replace them with Veremeenko and Mirotic effectively.
