Rip Hamilton signs three-year deal with Bulls

[I Ripped (lolololol) this photo from Bulls.com. Is the headband rule done?!? I'm excited, call me a sucker for Bulls moves. Any moves. -yfbb]

Hamilton_111214_medium

Richard Hamilton officially signed a three-year deal with the Bulls Wednesday. Two years and $10 million reportedly are guaranteed; the third year is a $5.15 million team option.

If you're unsure how excited you should be, yfBB and I wrote posts on this here and here.

The real pending question: what kind of car will Rip buy C.J. Watson in exchange for the number "32"?

I remember Rip and Kirk Hinrich getting into it several times over the years. #Bulls will want Rip to get in Wade’s grill similarly.

this is my main focus for the 'glass half full' signing of Rip

In a seven game series, Rip should be able to run a broken-down Wade ragged and tired, and hopefully keep his heroics to a minimum late in games.

Beating LeBron/Wade

takes more than a “little help”. This signing does nothing unless he is packaged (Assuming he’s healthy) into a trade for a real player.

Our franchise player is in his prime and needs more than a has-been from the WORST team to wing a ring on a 2 year vacation before whatever you can do while wearing that mask besides sucking @ basketball.

Aaron Afflalo- Restricted FA. Nuggs said they’d match anything
Eric Gordon- Hornets trade bait
Dwight Howard- Said he wouldn’t play in CHI
DWIGHT HOWARD
Jason Richardson- Wanted more than MLE

Next?

Too slow, too jerky, too quirky, too Deng!

by rainman1003 on Dec 14, 2011 9:59 PM CST up reply actions

oh my god..

Afflallo completely over valued by his own team. we would need to gut our team for Eric Gordon. Dwight Howard i repeat, DWIGHT HOWARD did not want to come here! Jason Richardson is aging fast and wanted a 4 year contract.

now what?

by MartyMondays on Dec 14, 2011 9:59 PM CST up reply actions

Arron Afflalo is a restricted FA, the Bulls don't have the cap space and Denver will match almost any offer.

Eric Gordon? Ok, who do you propose we trade? Luol Deng, Omer Asik and Taj?
This doesn’t stop the Bulls from acquiring Dwight Howard
Crying about Hamilton as a ball-stopper and poor defender than wanting Jason Richardson makes no sense.

When was the last time all the bulls could score and were athletic ?
Rose, Rip, Deng, Boozer, Noah? Everyone can pass and everyone has length except Booze. (Booze can pass, and I think he’s going to have a great year, being lighter and getting practice with the dudes is huge)

Some great secondary lineups for us to dream up too.

The Bulls still have the fastest PG and Center in the league.

They’re still not running like Miami or New York, but that’s Wade LeBron Carmelo and Landry Fields we’re talking about there.

by JockstrapNoah on Dec 14, 2011 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

New York will always play at a fast pace, Miami is a top 5 offense because they force turnovers and get out in transition.

The Bulls do not get Rose in fastbreak situations nearly enough, and that was a huge reason why their offense looked so underwhelming in the playoffs.

by Ozzie Montana on Dec 14, 2011 10:25 PM CST up reply actions

While the starters provided good defense

they never really provided many steals. That might change with Rose’s commitment to overhelp and an upgrade in length and athleticism at the 2.

out of curioisty, are Celtics fans frustrated with the front office?

trading away the starting center for a backup pf last year, and they dont really seem to be planning much for the post big 3 years.

by kpd on Dec 14, 2011 10:13 PM CST up reply actions

I'd say it's about 50/50.

But the thing is, you’ve got to move on. This same front office (Danny A.) brought us a championship caliber team, that then got struck with the injury bug. So aside from some luck, we’ve been contenders and hoisting a banner.

This season… well, remains to be seen. It’s been a mess of a pre-season so far, with the whole CP3/DH sweepstakes.

I’d grade our moves up until now … a B. I think that’s the consensus amongst us Celtic fans as well.

nice read.

Hamilton’s unlikely, his peers say, to take over any active leadership role with his new team because that wasn’t his style with his old team, the Pistons, even though he was, along with Chauncey Billups, the team’s best player.

1. Leadership doesn’t seem needed on this team.
2. Rip and Chauncey as the best players from that team? Thats a tough sell.

by JockstrapNoah on Dec 14, 2011 10:20 PM CST up reply actions

I was thinking Chauncey or Ben Wallace

It’s amazing how many really good players that team had without having one superstar. You could make a reasonable argument for any of the four guys.

By the way, this is similar to deciding who the second best player on this Bulls team is – I think you could make a reasonable argument for Noah, Boozer or Deng.

Eh, Wilbon's a moron
A trade for Howard, if he could be had, would change the timeline for trying to win a championship, pushing the Bulls back at least one full season.

by JeffD on Dec 14, 2011 11:00 PM CST up reply actions

I somewhat agree

I guess it would depend on what we gave up to get him. I mean, think of the chemistry!
Seriously though, even if it did hurt our chances this year, it would (in my opinion) increase our chances of multiple championships in the near future.

by SidM on Dec 14, 2011 11:20 PM CST up reply actions

Idk, I don't think it even matters what we give up

I’d probably give up the entire team minus Rose, and just start from scratch. You put Rose and Howard together, then fill the rest of the team with mid level type signings, and you’re still at least in the ECF every year guaranteed

by Juiceboxjerry on Dec 14, 2011 11:39 PM CST up reply actions

I agree

plus getting rid of Deng, Boozer, and Noah would open up huge amount of “flexibility moving forward”. All jokes aside the Bulls could then rebuild completely around those two cornerstones and sign lots of solid role players for the money that those three were making

by TheFunkle on Dec 15, 2011 12:07 AM CST up reply actions

true

but you’d still run into the same problems in the 4th quarter of playoff games. Can’t give it to Howard b/c he can’t shoot free throws, and Rose gets double/triple teamed if the other 3 on the floor are scrubs. I think our current team beats a rose/howard/chump/scrub/whoever in the ECF every year.

I get that

But they had more around them than we would if we did…

give up the entire team minus Rose, and just start from scratch.

Miami did not give up their entire team to get Shaq, they gave up Caron Butler and Lamar Odom…and something else that didn’t matter I think.
I’m not saying trading for Howard would make us suck, I just disagree that starting fresh with Rose and Howard is a sure road to championships. We’d have 2 all stars to Miami’s 3, and more holes to fill with castoffs from other teams. Basically, we’d be the Knicks.

by obnoxious american on Dec 15, 2011 11:52 AM CST up reply actions

yeah, they are better

but how much better? Recall the knicks weren’t exactly bulldozing through the playoffs last year.
As for comparable rosters, who do you think we’d get to fill in the roster? Keep in mind we haven’t exactly been at the top of every FA’s list this offseason. Would that change if we had just Rose and Howard? With FAs still having NY and MIA trying to fill gaps, and the rest of the league operating as usual?
I guess the best way to describe my apprehension is that Howard is an upgrade over Noah, but how much of an upgrade? Would that be offset by a roster of scrubs compared to our current non rose/noah roster? It’s not a sure thing in my opinion.

by SidM on Dec 15, 2011 1:41 PM CST up reply actions

5 - 3 = 2

5 players on the other team, worst case scenario 3 of them on rose. that leaves 2 to double howard or 1 on howard 1 floating. If everyone else on the roster is crap, then things won’t go well.

by JockstrapNoah on Dec 14, 2011 10:21 PM CST up reply actions

Right

The great thing about our offense is that EVERYBODY moves the ball. I remember looking the A:TO ratio for everyone on the team last year, and I think Omer was the only Bull with more turnovers than assists. Everyone on this team moves the ball.

Sure, the playoffs you might want another guy who can create offense by themselves – it’s established pretty well (see above) that such a player isn’t available right now – our offense is definitely better with Rip.

This isn’t a clear-cut championship move, but it makes the team better. That’s, like, good.

But, Rip will come in quickly, and play with Rose often.

by Revlution4ever on Dec 14, 2011 10:33 PM CST reply actions

I use last year as an example

Thibs likes to stay with his starting rotation, no matter what. i.e. Keith Bogans last year.

before Brewer got injured, it was rumored that he was going to start. Since Bogans was in training camp, they started him…and Thibs never let go.

Ronnie has been playing with the starters in training camp. Unlikely that Thibs puts him to the bench. He’ll probably do something similar like last year—play Brewer for the first five and then quickly bring in Rip (and end the game with Rip as well)

by Revlution4ever on Dec 14, 2011 10:35 PM CST up reply actions

Yes

But, Thibs doesn’t like to change things. And, when Brewer keeps starting…Thibs will have a harder time changing the line-up for Rip to start. I’ll believe it when I see it…

by Revlution4ever on Dec 14, 2011 10:42 PM CST up reply actions

idk about that

i think bogans was the starter because thibs wanted him in the rotation, and he sucked too much so he would never be able to get on the court if he didnt start. Also when brewer was coming back from injury, he meshed well with the rest of the bench mob so thibs kept him on the bench to start

thinking about all this Howard stuff

got me thinking about how he’s done against the Bulls. I kind of wish we brought back Kurt Thomas. I’ve been thinking about it, and Howard has bullied Noah, Gibson, and Asik around. In recent games against us, he has only had some problems with Kurt Thomas and for some reason, Aaron Gray. Hell, until Noah got hurt and we started Thomas against Howard, Orlando had been kicking our ass for years.

I know Miami is the team to beat, but I’m thinking it wouldnt be a bad idea to add an end of the rotation bruiser to fill that Kurt Thomas role against Howard. Just a big guy who is able to hold his own and push Howard back rather than get pushed out of the way. Maybe Joel Pryzbilla? The fact that Gray did ok on Howard tells me we just need a big, wide, heavy, strong guy, not necessarily a defensive juggernaut.

Interesting factiod

(maybe just to me)

Deng has known Hamilton since the latter’s UConn days, when he played with Deng’s older brother Ajou Deng. He doesn’t think Hamilton will have a tough time fitting in with the Bulls’ system. “Rip is not a player that needs the ball in his hands.” Deng said. “He moves without the ball really well, the way we play he’s just going to fit in perfectly.”

Depth

Unless there are injuries the Bulls in my eyes are the deepest, most balanced of the contending teams. That and the fact that the Bulls strength is Def (easier to play D every night then shoot well when you are tired) I think will really help them with the tighter schedule this season. Hopefully starters will not have to play as many mins as other teams to still get top 2 seed and then be fresher in playoffs

Lineup certainly looks a lot better on Off with Hamilton playing SG. The inability for Bogans and Brewer to SHOOT (and Korver only useful if he hits every shot) I don’t think can be stressed enough.

by NY Chicago Fan on Dec 15, 2011 12:59 AM CST reply actions   1 recs

I agree with 90% of what you wrote except for this:
easier to play D every night then shoot well when you are tired

It’s the opposite.

Playing defense is a ton tougher because it requires a hell of a lot more energy. Now, this aligns with the rest of your point, because we have the deepest and most balanced team. So, our bench (which in a lot of cases is better defensively) will be able to take away a lot of that burden.

Actual offense, at least the act of shooting (as you mentioned) is far less intensive than playing defensive, especially in a Thibs system. So, no matter what, their depth will help and their depth will carry them in this tough schedule. But, the defense will tire them and it’s going to be a balancing act for Thibs and the rest of the staff so he doesn’t ware down his team.

Cause even though he’s the man, D Rose has owned his ass historically. Those two are gonna get after it big time that game. So excited. I want these fucking games to start already

The Clippers

don’t have a shooting guard. who’s gonna cover Rip? Billups? Foye? Mo Williams? Eric Bledsoe? they have like 5 PGs now and no SGs and they are all under 6’4". Trying to see Boozer cover Griffin should be interesting though.

A Billups/Paul seems most likely

Maybe Paul/Bledsoe too. Caro would probably split duty on Deng and Rip. You gotta play a lot of Noah on Blake, Asik on Jordan probably

I didn't say it's more telling than comparing seasons from two players.

I said that the one game last year is more telling of how their matchups in the future will play out, because Rose’s game has evolved much more than CP3’s has over that period. CP3 was obviously a better player than rookie Rose, but that’s not the case anymore.

by BearDownChiTown on Dec 15, 2011 12:35 PM CST up reply actions

My original comment was in response to Poloplaya

Who said that Paul has put up better stats in the 4 games that they have matched up with each other. But Rose’s stats in their most recent matchup is what matter most.

by BearDownChiTown on Dec 15, 2011 12:39 PM CST up reply actions

True.

But “CP3 owning Rose’s ass historically” is insignificant. Looking at the stats of a game between four-year veteran CP3 against rookie Rose doesn’t help us analyze whether this year’s CP3 is better than this year’s Rose. It’s unfair to Rose to take the average matchup stats because he has progressed so much from year 1 to year 3, wheras CP3 has arguably declined in that time period because of the burst he lost due to knee injury.

by BearDownChiTown on Dec 15, 2011 5:42 PM CST up reply actions

I never went as far is to say CP3 has owned Rose historically

I like your suggestions. I kind of feel bad for Butler.

I’ve heard he came into camp in great shape and is playing well in practice, but I don’t see him getting lots of minutes this year.

by Tim S. on Dec 15, 2011 11:27 AM CST up reply actions

It's probably not that bad of a spot for him, though.

He gets to learn the game at his own pace without being forced out there with expectations. He’ll be groomed by Thibs and learn a lot from the vets at his position(Deng, Korver, Brewer, Hamilton) and hopefully be ready to step right into a medium size role next season and, from there, into a starting gig for a long time.

by dakoose on Dec 15, 2011 11:38 AM CST up reply actions

I think playing time is more important.

And practice time will be shortened this season, too.

by Tim S. on Dec 15, 2011 1:59 PM CST up reply actions

I think you'll be surprised

He’s a defensive guy, and thibs can never have too much defense. And he’s the only real 3 we have to back up deng. I know brewer and korver will split time in that role, but I think we’ll be seeing a decent amount of cj, brew, butler, taj, and omer.

Bonzi Wells was available?

Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnn!!!!!!

MANKATO, Minn. (AP)—The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed veteran Bonzi Wells, who hasn’t played in an NBA game since 2008.
Wells signed his contract Thursday, the same day the Timberwolves completed a three-year deal with second-round pick Malcolm Lee.
The 35-year-old Wells earned a reputation as a hothead during his earlier years with the Portland Trail Blazers. But he connected with new Minnesota coach Rick Adelman during stops in Sacramento and Houston, and the Wolves hope he can add some veteran toughness to a very young team.

Wells last played in Puerto Rico. He wasn’t cleared by FIBA to return to the NBA until this past week.

He’s also only played in the NBA for Rick Adelman for the last few seasons he played in the league.

He also wears headbands so you know what that means for us.

makes ben gordon look like a pass first sg…..crawford never met a shot selection that he didnt like, and his dumb behind the back dribbles look cool when they succeed, but its usually just pointless over dribbling. He should have gone to the knicks where d’antonis system would have hid his flaws, portland likes to run things slow to a crawl, so it will be interesting to see how jamal fits there…

Yeah, that's a good article

I think he nailed the main reason why this is an upgrade: Instead of Thibs having to constantly maneuver his lineup to get a certain skill (i.e. scoring, defense, 3 pt shooting), Rip kinda consolidates all that with a bit of everything.

Ronnie Brewer the new Keith Bogans? Per say

The way Brewer is performing in camp it looks like he’s gonna start and play about 15 minutes while Rip comes off the bench and takes the rest of with minutes. With Rip coming to camp behind on Thibs system and having to earn the starting spot i see Ronnie starting but Rip will finish the games.

by pdiddy990 on Dec 15, 2011 1:16 PM CST reply actions

this was my point exactly

I said the same thing a 100 posts up.

Yes, I agree. Although, 15 minutes is a bit long. Ronnie would most likely play 5 minutes or so before Rip comes in. And, then they would switch off with Rip ending most games (unless they’re specifically looking for a defensive stop). And, of course, when they’re looking for pure offense, the lineup will include Korver.

by Revlution4ever on Dec 15, 2011 3:15 PM CST up reply actions

I'm not sure about this

The only reason Bogans played was because Thibs wanted the appearance of shooting in with the starting unit. Don’t see how Brewer gets the start

by tuluse on Dec 15, 2011 4:17 PM CST up reply actions

I've mentioned this before

but Thibs almost never put Brewer in at SG with the rest of the starting lineup, Kyle saw 3 times as many minutes as him. Seeing how effective Brewer was with the bench mob, I don’t see why Thibs would take him out of that lineup and put him in a spot where he obviously prefers a shooter.

by mrcochran23 on Dec 15, 2011 1:21 PM CST reply actions

Getting Rip was a major upgrade over Bogans, but...

the Bulls still have no one but Rose who can create offense, Brewer can’t shoot, Deng can’t dribble or run a fast break, im pretty sure Boozer still can’t play defense, Korver too, Watson sucks, Noah, Asik, Taj have no post game. they definitely should have tried to sign crawford as a 6th man.

by Chanel#1_Rose on Dec 15, 2011 1:23 PM CST reply actions

Man, how did they ever get the best record in the league last year?

Oh yeah, defense, and Crawford is allergic to defense.

I’m not convinced Hamilton will put the Bulls over the top. In fact, I think whether the Bulls win a championship depends on whether Rose can reach a whole new level of stardom. But at least Hamilton has been known to try on defense. Crawford and Thibs just seemed like such a bad fit.

by obnoxious american on Dec 15, 2011 3:29 PM CST up reply actions

And how did they not win a Championship with all that defense??

All that defense is great but in the playoffs you need shot makers. That’s what Dallas and almost every champion has. I’m OK with the signing of Hamilton and having the best record is cool but if you can’t hit shots in the playoffs, you’re not winning a Championship.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Dec 15, 2011 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

i think the bulls are hoping that rose can become that shot maker

ala kobe, melo, all the guys sin likes….

i think they are of the belief that its not that rose cant make the shots, but the fact that he was hounded way too much to make the shots. They are hoping rip helps create flow to the offense so that rose can take the last shot without just dominating the ball. I’m looking for rip to be almost more of a distributor than just a simple scorer this year. A catalyst as it were. Rose is gonna be the bulls closer and unstoppable weapon….i think thats the plan…

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

by piccolomair on Dec 15, 2011 3:59 PM CST up reply actions

I think that's possible

I do understand what some are saying though about ball handling. To me that’s almost as important as getting shots. The fact that Rose is still the only true ball handler is a real problem in crunch time. That’s why MJ and Pip worked so well was because of Pips ability to dribble and play make. I would feel a lot better with your theory if we could get another real PG or playmaking SF on this team.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Dec 15, 2011 4:05 PM CST up reply actions

i think unfortunately for the time being

we are going to have to learn to live with ‘ball movement’…i see a lot of that this year and next year. But also, derrick rose is probably the best ball handler the bulls have ever had, including pip and jordan…i think more than just another ball handler, rose needs room to work. Miami hounded rose late in the game and really didnt give him much room too operate. Heres hoping having rip moving around the floor allows the ball to move in such a way that team have to slack off rose a bit and give him room.

Part of why i think lebron did such a great job on rose was because lebron prevented rose from getting a full head of steam on any drives. He is too strong for rose to just push past, he has pretty long arms himself so he could give himself a nice amount of room to help him backpedal yet not concede a shot to rose. I think rose was trying to utilize a bunch of hesitations and fakes to get past bron and it really didnt work. Rose needs the room to put the ball on the floor and get a nice head of steam, once he has the speed he can take to the air and he usually finds ways to get things done once hes there.

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

by piccolomair on Dec 15, 2011 4:12 PM CST up reply actions

True.

I also the Lebron did a great job because Miami basically implied Jordan Rules on Rose. They were trapping him a half court. Every team last year applied that formula. The ones that had the horses to pull it off, got away with it. When it’s money time, Rose is going to need whomever gets the ball out of the double team to put the ball on the floor and do something with it. This is where Deng kills us.

Don’t get me wrong, Deng did step it up and he made me eat a lot of my words last year. But the inability to put the ball on the floor was murder. I hope you’re right and hope that Hamilton is good enough to give Rose the necessary space. Unfortunately that means that even if it’s successful, Rose will still carry the abundance if the workload.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Dec 15, 2011 4:19 PM CST up reply actions

And we don’t need anymore defense we got enough defenders on this team. We need some shot makers. Dallas had J.Kidd and Barea on the floor at the same time, im pretty sure we couldve hid crawford on defense and put him on chalmers, miller, or battier.

Link here. Here’s the first half:

The Bulls need another scorer to take some of the heat (and Heat) off Derrick Rose, but let me throw a twist on this: I’m wondering if Chicago should bring Hamilton off the bench. The Bulls’ second unit last season played suffocating defense but was basically playing for a scoreless tie; put Hamilton with that group in place of Kyle Korver and they can generate a lot more shots with the same defensive effectiveness.

Regardless of how he’s used, this a major upgrade on Keith Bogans. It’s not without risk, however, as Hamilton is 33 and my system’s projection for him this season was nastily pessimistic. I think he’ll prove better than that, as he’s one of the best-conditioned players in the game, but it warrants mentioning.

Have at it.
Richard Hamilton to Bulls, three years, $15 million: Thumbs up

Still, this was a better option than Jamal Crawford, Chicago’s other realistic midlevel exception pursuit, and since the third year is only partially guaranteed, they’ve limited some of the downside risk.

Finally, this was an especially important signing for Chicago because it is built to win now. Yes, there is a lot of young talent, but other teams are going to start chipping away at it once all these guys become free agents; if the Bulls are a tax team, it’s going to be hard to justify keeping Taj Gibson or Omer Asik in the face of an inflated offer sheet from another team.

Chicago will have four players making over $12 million dollars in 2013-14, the first year the league’s draconian tax penalties kick in, and that’s going to have an effect further down the roster. That’s why the right approach is to try to get all the W’s they can over the next two seasons and deal with the fallout later.

But if this group doesn’t win in 2 years guys like Boozer, Hamilton, Korver, Brewer, Watson and possibly Noah, Deng, Taj or Asik could be on the way out. It remains to be seen whether Rip has a problem with that….

Yeah that's what I was thinking too.

But as long as the Bulls are winning, which they will, its going to be hard to complain about minutes. Especially when the Bulls hit those back to back to backs.

by JockstrapNoah on Dec 15, 2011 3:52 PM CST up reply actions

yeah, i think managing the minutes is going to be key here

and i think brewer/hamilton will prob get minutes together. i think korver’s the loser in this whole situation. he will really be marginalized to very situational i think.

Look
I didn’t want to offend anyone by saying the "f" word or generalizing my statement to any particular sex by saying "gays" or lesbians" or "bi’s" so "homos" is the most "politically correct" term. I’m just trying to be more tact in a tactless blog.

It will be a total misuse of resources if Ronnie starts...

The whole point of Rip is that his defender has to chase him all over the floor. Rip has better conditioning so the defender gets worn out. Is this really an effective strategy if Rip is playing 20 minutes a game and is defended by two different players during this period of time?

Further, Ronnie is the ultimate energy guy off of the bench. He comes in, turns some defense into offense, harasses the other teams bench and sits back down. This was the role that he was born to play!

If I were in charge of rotations I would have Rose, Rip, Booz, Noah, Deng as the starting unit and Ronnie, Korver, Taj, Omer and Cj as the bench mob. Butler could also get some clock at SF but this nonsense about Ronnie starting has to go!

by THEKILLERWHALE on Dec 15, 2011 5:26 PM CST up reply actions   2 recs

Agreed

Another point is that there needs to be good PG-SG synergy. Rip will feed off of Rose’s dribble penetration in a way that Brewer can’t. And on the flip side, Rip won’t be as useful with Watson out there because Watson’s not as good at creating for others. Meanwhile, Brewer’s a good fit with the second unit since he can play aggressively to generate steals with Taj/Asik behind him.

Pat Riley is the devil.

good point

i think its an issue too..but i also believe that Thibs needs to also show Rip that he is not bigger than the team. I dont think he will go scott skiles on him, but by january he should be in the rotation heavy

Just because it's so late in the year, I'm sure.

and so the legend begins....

Brian Windhorst @WindhorstESPN
Norris Cole has 19 points, 3 asst, 5 rebs, 3 steals and his team has trounced 1st unit with Wade, LeBron & Bosh so far.

Should've traded for Melo.

lebron wade and bosh are probably playing easy

cuz obviously, its all part of the plan, give the young guy a ton of confidence, create a rumor in the league that makes people think the kid is better than everyone thought, and in all the commotion trample teams with the big 3. A big ol’ diversion if you will….its definitely reeks of a riley tactic

Howard said Thursday that his trade request hasn’t been withdrawn, a day after Magic general manager Otis Smith shook off questions about what offers he’d received and said that trade discussions involving him “could go to the end of the season.”

i feel like im the only one who thinks dwight wont be traded because secretly he told otis smith that since noah can’t be traded till january 15 he want to be “off the market” until we’re blindsided by a trade to chicago on january 16

Thibs will probably use him just as Boston uses Ray Allen. I think it will be effective, and open up more wide open looks for Boozer/Noah as well when the D helps off of screens set for him.
