Woj sez (via his Twitter account):
Altercation came after a card game gone awry. Mayo became increasingly belligerent toward Allen when asked to settle a debt, sources say
Mayo got into Allen’s face, and Allen struck him, sources say. Several teammates got between them and broke it up. Mayo missed Tuesday game.

Bronchitis???

I don’t know if it was an illness or if he was in a fight, all i know is that the bulls management should be on the phone right now trying to trade for this guy…………..Hopefully the grizz will lower their trading demands……..No Way the bulls will include Asik

This might actually make the Bulls hesitant to deal for him if they do make him available

It would be so kick ass to get this guy in a Bulls uni. Him and Rose would be dangerous as hell

Haywood got in a fight with Etan Thomas

when they were with the Wiz, but I think they both stuck around for a while. They shouldn’t trade their #3 pick just because he got in a fight, fights happen. Maybe this catalyzes a process already in the works though, and lowers his trade value that much further.

Mayo isn’t going to like coming off the bench behind Bogans though.

Boure' or Bourre

Bourré (also commonly known as Bouré and Boo-Ray) is a trick-taking gambling card game primarily played in the Acadiana region of Louisiana in the United States of America. The game’s closest relatives are probably Spades and Euchre; like many regional games, Bourré sports a large number of variant rules for both gameplay and betting considerations. Not to be confuse with Blue-Ray, which is an information medium or a brand of sunglasses, or boure, which is a French musical movement, popularized in the 17th century,

This quote is from an unrelated story by Nick Friedell:
Without question, the two players that Bulls general manager Gar Forman fields the most calls about are Gibson and Asik. They are young and their contracts are relatively cheap. The more games they play like this, the easier it may be for Forman to deal them at the deadline for another piece. The Bulls love both players, but if the right deal comes up, one or both may be gone.

I have yet to see him get handled on the defensive end and he doesn’t get in the way on the offensive end… there are a lot of centers who have made a quality living with only those attributes

Hell Yeah

A center is hard to find in the nba, specially now, back in the days there were more good centers………It is hard to find a good back up center now, the bulls can find another pf to sign if needed in the d-league, plus the bulls need Asik until Noah returns

by Jermal on Jan 5, 2011 12:41 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

interesting fact: most teams seem to do the "center by committee" thing. i was searching b-r.com

to see how noah’s numbers stacked against other high minute centers, and i learned that only 12 centers in the nba play 24 or more minutes per game.

not that im choosing a side

but you could always put deng at the 4, or asik at the 4 in a a tight situation, and kurt thomas might be better at the 4 as well….without asik, who do you have at center? Anyone on the roster is already undersized and there are very few good backup centers in the league that are worth having. But of course, it always depends on what else you can get back…

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

I'd take Asik over Taj in a heartbeat

Asik has legit size, is a solid athlete, and can really block/alter shots. Taj is noce, but what Omer can od is invaluable. He seems like a real steal to me.

Exactly.

Taj is what he is, and he likely won’t change. Asik, however, could one day develop into a Gortat, or a Robin Lopez

Over Taj?

I might because of his size. If they get something good for Taj I’m down.

It's not me my keyboard sucks!

by SoulEater7 on Jan 5, 2011 12:59 AM CST up reply actions

The thing with Taj how long can he play with high energy before his body starts to give

Because he isn’t going to get any better skill wise. he is 25, so he has likely 3 more solid years in him if he played starters minutes, maybe longer if he keeps coming off the bench. Now what do you resign at when his contract is up?

Asik is still raw and has much more upside.

I think Taj and Asik are great backups, but if Deng and maybe Johnson (if he stops being a tard) can spot some minutes at 4, Taj becomes the tradable one.

I remember once former Bull Dave Corzine staring at a stat sheet after a loss when he had one rebound and Michael Jordan offering, "One more rebound than a dead man."

by Rex Grossman on Jan 5, 2011 3:30 PM CST up reply actions

You can hate the opinion all ya want but I'd give up both for Mayo

Thomas is a more than capable backup for now. Spend the offseason looking for a legit backup center, pf and pg.

That starting 5 would just look too nice.

Plus, we’d still have that ‘enticing’ Charlotte pick to use as an asset in future trades

by Option27 on Jan 5, 2011 1:14 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

I don’t think we have to give up that much, though. Why do that when they’ll probably just take Taj?

The Miami Heat: Like ants and a magnifying glass. ... OH NO! CHRIS BOSH’S BEAUTIFUL FACE!!!!!!!!

They can have anyone outside our other starting 4 for all I care. I just wanna have the 5 set already and fill up the bench later

If we can keep that Charlotte pick, let them have our first rounder and whomever else they want outside of Rose, Deng, Boozer and Noah.

After seeing how Orlando looks now and what Miami has going for them, we need a starting 5 that has no weakness whatsoever to take the rest of the East on

by Option27 on Jan 5, 2011 2:17 AM CST up reply actions

Taj would be gone mos def.

Probably JJ and cap filer (Bogans please) and our 1st should get it done at this point. Taj would start for them once Z-Bo leaves this off-season.

Rose 2010!!!!!

by illwill on Jan 5, 2011 2:18 AM CST up reply actions

I would not give up either for Mayo...

Mainly because Mayo is a poor fit next to Rose, which most fans who want to trade for him are completely ignoring…the Bulls do not need a ball dominant guard next to Rose, as Rose needs the ball in his hands to be effective…

In terms of fit, Stephen Jackson or JR Smith would be much better than Mayo.

by Basketball Smurf on Jan 5, 2011 10:15 AM CST up reply actions

I didn't say he couldn't or doesn't score that way

I’m just saying I think he has the skill set to be effective without the ball as well. Jump shooting is a huge part of his game, and I’ve seen him spot up effectively in games before.

I got the skills to pay the bills and that's about it

by Rose Colored Goggles on Jan 5, 2011 10:58 AM CST up reply actions

So we constantly hear how the Bulls need another scorer/ball handler/shooting guard

Mayo is all of those. It seems like you only want spot up shooters to fill in that void.

Oh so wrong.

by Option27 on Jan 5, 2011 12:12 PM CST up reply actions

I totally agree

I think a lot of people who are willing to give up stuff like Taj+Asik+pick for Mayo aren’t awar of what his game is or how not-great he’s played since his rookie year. Mayo can shoot from the outside, but his % from three is nothing special. And, as you say, he is not a perfect fit next to Rose. The hype around Mayo exceeds his game right now. He lost his starting spot on the Grizz….

by hitlesswonder on Jan 5, 2011 3:30 PM CST up reply actions

They are gold right now

But I still rather trade the Charlotte pick before Taj or Asik

I see tons of posts on here how this may be so awesome in 6 years… well.. I say if we can convince another team of that and get something now, all the better.

by Basketball on Jan 5, 2011 4:26 PM CST up reply actions

I'm thinking nothing will happen until closer to the deadline.

Especially with Noah out, they don’t want to lose the depth they currently have with Gibson and Asik. Who knows though…sometimes you have to make the deal when it is there to be made. Of course, that is assuming they actually want to make one which isn’t certain.

Both players said they weren’t surprised that the scuffle became public.
