A Bull in Knicks clothing....

Ok...

So I've been to this forum a few times & read a whole bunch of trade scenarios  trying to upgrade the SG position. Names that have been dropped are O.J. Mayo, Stephen Jackson, Courtney Lee just to name a few......but what about Landry Fields? I think he is a Bull in Knicks clothing! The guy is a rookie, leading all guards in the league in RPG! He's 6'7", athletic, Nice jump shot....good defender & he is available! This guy moves well without the ball yet has a nose for it hence the reason he's the leading rebounding guard (I'm sure being 6'7" helps"). Being a rookie & so young He fits right into the Bulls system of yon core players. Heres the best part about Fields though.....he is AVAILIBLE! Every trade the Knicks proposed has included him yet the Nuggets want picks which NY don't have. I contacted Sam Smith (ask sam) about Landry & he said the Bulls value the CHA pick more the what they think Landry is worth. I say they guy has the potential to be a 15ppg 7.5rpg starting SG for the bulls. So my trade proposal looks like this...

Knicks get CHA pick plus our 1st rounder

Bulls get Landry Fields...

Knicks trade Wilson Chandler, CHA pick, Bulls pick, Eddy Curry (or involve another team & trade Curry exp deal to them for picks or young talent) to Nuggets for Melo

Truth is....the Knicks NEED to land Melo & they know it! They promised Lebron....didn't get him.....they need to work on sloppy seconds......

Fields is GREAT though

for serious. I’d trade 2 firsts for Fields, especially considering the likely crappiness of those firsts

Charlotte's first likely won't be crappy

I don’t think it is the guaranteed superstar in 5 years that some do, but it likely will be a top 10 pick. I might do it.

Question about Fields contract though. Doesn’t he get paid a lot sooner because he didn’t get first round guaranteed money?

by JSB on Jan 31, 2011 10:08 PM CST up reply actions

Yup, his contract's up after next season.

Get a star....

well, I only think he’s worth the CHA 1st rounder but I think they only trade him for the 2 1st rounders…& Melo to a depleted NY squad does not scare me.

knicks arent giving up landry

they love that kid over there

The ultimate fan experience is no longer courtside seats, it's Keith Bogan's job.

by sin on Jan 31, 2011 7:31 PM CST reply actions

If they land Melo via trade......Fields is no longer a Knick

Landry has been trade bait for Melo all season….any deal for Melo will include Fields

by poetstylez on Jan 31, 2011 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

My only reasoning is that Denver wants picks most & Bulls have picks & I think Landry is worth a pick….He has tremendous upside I think….at 6’7" seems to be a hard worker & good defender as a rookie with a nose for the ball…..those are things you really cant teach (except the defender part….but even then, you either have it or you don’t)

by poetstylez on Jan 31, 2011 7:40 PM CST up reply actions

true and they have a few options at SG anyway. much as they like him he's expendable

comment on fields from sbnation contributer
A number of guys had solid games, but Fields was undoubtedly the star. His defense on Wade was brave, if mortal, but Fields did most of his work on the glass and with splendid opportunistic scoring. Landry demonstrated an uncanny sense for carom trajectories, positioning himself perfectly for 13 boards, including 5 possession-saving o-bounds. That opportunistic scoring came in the form of 3-6 shooting from downtown and a few excellent finishes in the paint, both in transition and off cuts. My favorite Fields moment, though it’s hard to pick just one, was when Wade backed him down with just a few ticks left on the shot clock, then had the temerity to reach up and adjust his goggles mid-dribble. Fields would have none of it, and poked the ball away as the clock expired. Landry Fields does it like nobody does.

Bulls can just wait til the draft for a guy like Fields...

Now that the team is succeeding with young stars they don’t have to use draft picks on projects, high-ceiling or high potential guys.

They also won’t need to take a flyer on a middle round guy who’s hit or miss.. coughJJcough.

They can use a late 1st round pick on a senior who knows his shit, and he’ll do exactly what you expect him to do— contribute right away as a good role player, a la Fields, Taj, Courtney Lee, Carl Landry.

You must have me confused with someone else, I have never been to Chicago.

Trade the 2 picks to get sure thing

DocPepper shows exactly the type of player you can get like Taj or Fields using later draft picks. Use the exisitng 2 first round picks to guaranteee that you get one of these types of players when you have one of the top teams in the league (Landry Fields if available)

The 2007 9th pick got us Joakim (but it could have also gotten us players like Corey Brewer, Brandan Wright, Spencer Hawes or Acie Law, the 2 picks prior and after the 9th pick)

Use the picks to get a known quantity when possible, the draft is a crapshoot regardless of high or low first round pick.

I really like Fields

But there’s no way this happens.

Is it depressing that our starting shooting guard has only scored 6 points 12 times, or is it impressive that the Bulls have gone 12-0 in those games? Mind blowing.

by wrigleyrocker12 on Jan 31, 2011 8:31 PM CST reply actions

Since I think Fields is underrated and Melo overrated,

of course I’m for it. But my opinion doesn’t carry much weight around here.

No

We’re going to fuck them up in the playoff anyways

by Supasam on Jan 31, 2011 9:42 PM CST reply actions

I don't think Fields would play for us

He would be third string behind Bogans and Brewer.

by Gorditadog on Jan 31, 2011 10:54 PM CST reply actions

Landry Fields?

Its Landry Fields! He hasn’t even played a full year and you’re willing to trade two firsts for him?

I saw T2 at Walgreens in Deerfield he’s tall. if you’re wondering what his grocery list included: magnums, french vanilla ice cream and a 20 oz sprite

Fields is solid

I live in NY and have suffered through my share of Knicks games. From what I have seen, Fields is pretty solid. Given the uncertainty of the draft, I think the Bulls would have to at least consider trading the CHA pick plus our very late first round pick for him. Knicks fans do love him, however (although even my most die hard Knicks fan scoffed at the notion that Fields is REMOTELY in Rose’s league).

Landry Fields is fukin overated

dont get the hype. guy will suck next once they stop letting him shoot open 3’s

..and da so mi ah seh!

by Belize on Feb 1, 2011 12:34 PM CST reply actions

Exactly. He’s been solid…just solid, people act like he’s an All-star. He’s a nice, Battier-style role player. He gets tons of open looks bc it’s the regular season and most teams are playing top D yet. Also most teams just focus on Felton/Stoudamire. Once the playoffs roll around and teams clamp down, Fields will fall off.

Let the man play a full season before we crown him. The same thing happened with Batum, who was the golden boy last year….he still hasn’t broken out yet. Same will happen with Fields who is a nice player but just a solid role player nothing more.

by C Smoove on Feb 1, 2011 1:18 PM CST up reply actions

Hes no all-star

I hope you weren’t suggesting I thought he was All-star level. I don’t think he ever will be. But I think he’s a solid starting 2 that would be a better acquisition then Mayo, Jackson or Lee just based on what we’d have to give up in order to get them….

i like Fields

He certainly looks like a solid player who will be pretty good for years to come. But I intially disagreed with the idea of giving up 2 firsts for him, especially in a move that helps a rival get a star like JSB stated above. But after reading a few comments I’m starting to rethink that stance given the fact that one of the picks would be a very late first rounder. I can’t get with all the “fields is better than rose talk” but I do really like Fields and would love to see him on this team. Also, agreed on Batum. I remember Doug Collins giving him the Luol Deng 2006 “this kid is a star in the making” knob-slob praise last year and I didn’t really see all that. Solid player but a little early to annoint him an NBA shining star

Agreed, I like Fields but gambling

on the Cha pick might turn into something good for us, or throw in that 7ft tall Rondo looking clown (Randolph) I know he doesn’t have a great reputation now but he might be a good scorer off the bench. 2 firsts for 2 players sounds better

by ArchieHemmingway on Feb 1, 2011 2:36 PM CST up reply actions

2 1sts just seem like a lot for a merely solid player. maybe 1st first and a 2nd or JJ/Bogans and a first.

it's like trading Taj and JJ, really

only we get the sure asset now

Fields isn’t a sure thing to me yet. He’s had a nice half season. Look at how great Marcus Thorton looked last year and now he can’t even get off the bench.

by C Smoove on Feb 2, 2011 2:24 PM CST up reply actions

Thornton hasn't been bad in the minutes he's played this year

Monty has just been reluctant to play him as much for some reason.

Is it depressing that our starting shooting guard has only scored 6 points 12 times, or is it impressive that the Bulls have gone 12-0 in those games? Mind blowing.

by wrigleyrocker12 on Feb 2, 2011 2:55 PM CST up reply actions

Thornton has brought the same thing he brought last year

he just hasn’t been played. I think the Hornets’ coach prioritizes D, which Thornton isn’t the best at. …
