He does, however, completely dismiss Rose as a legitimate MVP candidate (obviously, this guy doesn't watch the games)

"as a Bulls fan?"

He doesn’t see rose as a legit MVP candidate?

He basis this on pure stats.

Most improved player?

I hate you Kelly Dwyer!

I remember once former Bull Dave Corzine staring at a stat sheet after a loss when he had one rebound and Michael Jordan offering, "One more rebound than a dead man."

by Rex Grossman on Jan 19, 2011 12:45 PM CST reply actions

I think it's because he's a Bulls fan

that he doesn’t want to sound like a homer and include Rose. When your main defense is TS% you’re not offering much insight.
However, most improved makes too much sense. That should be a 3 man race between Rose, Gordon and Westbrook, in my opinion.

This is the conclusion I came to as well

I like Dwyer, but this is a pretty douchey move imo. If he doesn’t think Rose is MVP thus far, that’s fine by me. But to go out of your way not to include him (by noting it the way he did), and including Kobe, who Rose is arguably having a better season than, it makes the whole argument look fishy.

Maybe, if Rose gets MIP this year...

It will finally lose its stigma of being a “best of the worst” award. Honestly, it’s an award that should celebrate the player that makes the biggest leap from one year to the next. Hard to argue that there’s a player out there that’s made a bigger single-season leap than Rose.

Then again, he’s also posting MVP type numbers. And to remove Rose from consideration while hyping LBJ and Wade (same team), Dirk (missed too much), and Paul (losing team) is ludicrous.

sheesh

most improved? I would give most improved to Kevin Love. Love has turned into a straight beast down low. My awards : (not that anyone cares)

MVP: Rose (no Noah, Boozer for majority of season)
COY: Popovich (The old Spurs playing some great ball)
6th Man: Terry (as much as I want to say Tyrus :), he’s not on the Jet’s level)
Most Improved: Kevin Love (+7 ppg, +5rpg from last yr)
Executive of yr: Dwayne Wade (getting LBJ and Bosh to come to Wade county)

I vote for Thomas to play, play more and play regularly.-Sam Smith

Unfortunately Love couldn't guard a cupcake from a 5 year old.

Though he certainly deserves a lot of consideration, I think guys like Rose and Gordon have improved both offensively and defensively so they get the nod for me.

This is why not calling it the best player award is stupid.

When you name it the most valuable, it means you can argue things like, “well.. his teammates were bad so he had to more” or “his teammates were great, so really his production wasn’t that valuable.”

You wouldn’t have stupid arguments like this if the name of the award was the Best Basketball Player award.

Isn't Jet starting a lot now that Butler is out?

And I don’t think it’s

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

he's started 10 gms on the season

5 in past month, I think he would still qualify as a 6th man.

raymon felton…? I mean he went from a solid starter to part of the big reason why ny has been winning as of late…

4 losses in a row after tonight.

And didn’t they have a 5 or 6 game losing streak earlier in the year?

Knicks are overrated. I’ve been wanting to make fun of them but they beat us twice.

"It feels the same. A win is a win no matter how my stats are. I was not aware at all I was that close. I was too caught up in the game. They made their run and they hit four or five straight shots and my concern was stopping their shots and I guess that led to a triple-double." - Derrick Rose.

Again

A team with two MVP candidates should be beasting their opponents to easily the best record in the NBA.

I don't understand why it's stupid

They can get rid of the award tomorrow and people would still be arguing about which player is having the best year. Isn’t that basically all it is?

Add the fact it would be a historical achievement where

Rose would become the youngest MVP winner ever.

If people talked only about who the best player was, then the arguments might be a bit more logical

The stupid comes when people try to extrapolate what “valuable” means and drawing in meaningless arguments like how good one player’s teammates are

Well, isn't what LeBron did last night the living embodiment of The Secret, leaving millions on the table and turning himself into a hometown villain, all for the sake of winning?

How is it stupid evaluating performaces

given the quality of teammates?

You’re telling me that having Wade/LeBron/Bosh isn’t going to help you get good looks or at least not be hounded with constant double teams?

Rondo is a perfect example of how teammates can inflate your stats.

Rose is the MVP. IMO

Playing without two of his top guys and he has the Bulls 3rd in the East after they finished 8th last season? Thibs I disagree with. I think he’s lost some games with some poor choices, Denver game. Benching his whole team against New York. He’s teams have struggled to come to play. I don’t think Thibs should win COY even though he has one of the better defensive teams.

MVP Rose
COY Pop
6th man JR Smith
MI Love
EOY Wade.

Seriously, homer aside

I agree with Dwyer. rose aint no M.V.P. yet..people who are Bulls fans may think so cuz without him we’d be booty juice, but compared to other MVP’s..Rose need another year or two

Why are you comparing him to other MVP's?

Compare him to other players in the league this year? Can you confidently say who’s been better? I can’t. He’s definitely a prime candidate.

I wouldn't keep him out of the run yet but I agree that is a lot of homerism going on

First of all let me say I’m not saying this because Rose should or should not win. Just pointing it’s not that obvious that Rose is MVP.

1) as much as I hate him – we should not dismiss LeBron: ok, he plays with Wade and Bosh. But his team is dominant (after a bad start), his number are still amazing, and he can play 4 positions. Plus it is not like the Bulls are an awful team. Rose-less Bulls are way better than Cav-less Bron. Not saying he will or should but no point in ignoring him.
2) if LeBron is out because of his team, why DWill don’t get more consideration? One can make the argument that the other players in Utah is not as good as those Chicago has.
3) What about Amare? How would dare to say they didn’t think NY sucked before this season. Yes they don’t win as much but they didn’t last year either. We have the best overall talent and couldn’t beat them.
4) Dwight has been a very dominant players for years. It’s hard to ignore him if you put LeBron aside. And guess what? Take him out and Orlando is not that great either. How many of you guys would rather have Bass and Hedo?
5) 40 games to be played. A lot can happen such as KD catchign up, Westbrook keeping triple-doubling, Big 3 chemistry, Griffin keeping the 27.6ppg 14.4rpg for the rest of the season, injuries everywhere… whatever

So yeah, Rose is a great choice but not the obvious choice.

Did you vote for the ASG today?

I think the biggest news from that article

is the Kurt Thomas mention under DPOY…

and that he has a point.

You must have me confused with someone else, I have never been to Chicago.

Interesting.

So if you guys say Rose isn’t currently @ the top of the MVP race, who is?

One of these guys:

Wade
LeBron
Kobe
Durant
Howard
Dirk
