Team USA vs. the Ruskies

Early start to quarterfinal game.

Star-divide

Turkey and Serbia have already advanced in one semifinal.  USA led by Durant and Rose would like to advance to the other.  Russia is known as a big physical team.

Russia is suppose to give Team USA some trouble, we shall see.   They are coached by American David Blatt, who I've never heard of, but who Chris Sheridan wrote this piece - http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=sheridan_chris&page=TeamUSA100907-russiapreview.

Personally I'm looking for a USA-Turkey final.  Asik v. Rose.  Jibber your jabber below.

15-11 early score

Durant is shooting without conscience

Team USA playing terrible defense. They need to protect the basket.

D is bad.

Just turned on the game so I only caught the end of the first quarter. Small sample size I know, but Curry got burned bacdly.

Iguodala playing well.

Team USA has to turn up the defense. They are playing too soft off the ball and inside.

by Basketball Smurf on Sep 9, 2010 10:34 AM CDT reply actions

Derrick's done a good job of keeping his guy in front of him

but he falls asleep every time the player he’s defending doesn’t have the ball

Superteams suck.

This game won't be close at the end

And it will help them big time in the next two games

Superteams suck.

more offense than i expected, especially in the 1st

the last high pick and roll switch that victimized rose in the last second hurt a bit. they won the 2nd 19-14, i believe.

rose pushes the ball under control much better than anyone, and he has quite a few “hockey assists”, or plays like the missed reverse that drew the defense for igoudala’s follow.

lamar odom playing like shit

USA getting nothing out of the 5 position

Really disappointed at how much of a non factor Rose has been in this tourney

I thought he would be the clear cut second best player, but it’s been a pretty muddled picture after Durant.

Superteams suck.

Btw, that doesn't mean I think he's played poorly at all

Just that I thought (or hoped) he’d be much better

Superteams suck.

Derrick is afraid of contact. He shoots tons of jump shots. Contorts his body in the lane. Lives off that floater when he gets into the lane.

This is what differentiates him from Westbrook, Wade, et. al. who get to the line.

He’s scared.

The Chicago Bulls hate shooting ability.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with this

The way that he acts like body parts are falling off EVERY time he gets hit further supports this.

Superteams suck.

Actually, I take it back

It’s kinda natural to kinda move out of the way of guys when you’re driving.

by Stacey_Is_King on Sep 9, 2010 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Plus, if that's the case

then why do all the great players run into them purposely?

Superteams suck.

by Juiceboxjerry on Sep 9, 2010 7:46 PM CDT up reply actions

There is a problem with that though

All of those guys you mentioned are much better passers than Rose and do other things better too(steals, rebounds), so they don’t need to get to the line and score as much to help their teams. Rose is a scoring pg. That’s where his value lies. So unless he becomes a much better passer and three point shooter next year (which is possible), he’s gonna have to up those free throws by a good margin if he wants to be considered an elite player.

Superteams suck.

go buy a dog!

There are really only two plays: Romeo and Juliet, and put the darn ball in the basket.

Wow, can we just all agree that Chauncey Billups is f'ing terrible?

I never knew this guy sucked THIS bad.

It’s one thing to have a bad game. It’s another to just make stupid choices over and over and OVER again.

by wilsoneads on Sep 9, 2010 11:50 AM CDT reply actions

I know, this tournament is making me hate him

I would’ve benched his ass for Gordon, or Love (and shifted everyone else down a position). All he does is chuck, and Rose keeps deferring to him because I guess he is the veteran presence.

When the clock is winding down, Rose or Durant should have the ball in their hands and no one else on this team.

by tuluse on Sep 10, 2010 3:24 AM CDT up reply actions

rose and durant are the guys that can get in the paint vs this zone

whenever they want, seemingly
