Around SBN: News And Other Updates Leading Up To Pats-Giants

[From the FanShots -ed.]

The Chicago Bulls have invited guard John Lucas III to training camp with a partially guaranteed one-year contract, according to sources close to the situation.

One source with knowledge of the Bulls' thinking told ESPN.com that the club has not abandoned hope of trading for Portland's Rudy Fernandez, who has been made available by the Trail Blazers. The Bulls and Blazers have discussed a deal that would send Fernandez to Chicago, but it's believed that Portland continues to hold out for more than a future first-round pick in return for the Spaniard.

Even if he is not a big body or anything

The guy can shoot. He can be everything Pargo wishes he was!

by Dr. Handsome, D.D.S. on Sep 3, 2010 11:47 PM CDT reply actions

He'd be a decent 12th man.

Run the point during garbage time. Maybe shoot a three now and then.

he was talking about john lucas

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

I am as well

I’m also convinced that anyone invited to Bulls camp is gonna be well perceived because he’s not Pargo.

it will be the other way around

by Christian_33 on Sep 6, 2010 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

ummm

rudy will miss all his 3’s during the world championship
which leads to rose declaring to espn that he wants to show rudy how to shoot a 3
which leads chicago to pull the trigger for him?!

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Sep 6, 2010 7:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Whatever his deficiencies are

One of them is not 3 point shooting. If he doesnt completely suck on defense he can play some situational minutes. Also, I…

Called it.

Twice in fact

It would still be nice to get Rudy for a reasonable price.

by runningman on Sep 4, 2010 7:40 AM CDT reply actions

I know it's lame

It doesn’t matter. Now i’ll root a little harder for him to make the team and it’ll be a little more entertaining for me if he enters a game in garbage time.

by runningman on Sep 4, 2010 1:25 PM CDT up reply actions

More than a 1st rounder is unreasonable

Unless it’s a garbage player to make salaries match. It’s not as if they are giving up a franchise cornerstone. They would be lucky to get back an equivalent pick (Rudy was picked 24). If they won’t take James Johnson and the Bobcats 1st, forget it.

portland considers any player on their roster a cornerstone of the franchise

lol

unfortunelty true. I’d be fine with a 1st round pick, though it would no doubt be a low one.

by hoodieNation on Sep 4, 2010 5:18 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah it would be pretty low

but from what ive been hearing this year’s class is supposed to be pretty strong/deep so who knows.
i think its worth it for a guy whos basically refusing to play anyways

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Sep 4, 2010 11:57 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't even care about the pick

If Portland wants to win, then they shouldn’t be focusing on rookies. Its sad that Rudy wants out as he’s not a bad player at all and is very different than Roy. He’s a great change of pace when he come in. But if he’s not happy, then there is no point in making him stay. Just gonna drag everyone else down. I’d worry about that wherever he lands. He’s not going to be happy unless he’s starting on a winning team and has a ton of motion in the offense.

by hoodieNation on Sep 5, 2010 12:08 AM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

yeah im not one of the rudy fans here

im definitely worried about the attitude problems he’ll bring with him. im not even sure hes guaranteed a starting spot here so i dont want more complaning. but his shooting touch would be nice

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Sep 5, 2010 1:05 AM CDT up reply actions

This is getting old.

Get over yourself Portland.

by Wake on Sep 5, 2010 1:27 AM CDT reply actions

Yeah...

Because Cho’s job as general manager is to make Chicago better. Calling someone selfish for not giving you what you want is pretty funny.

by Nick Van Excellent on Sep 7, 2010 5:45 PM CDT up reply actions

No, I see what you're saying.

Portland has been unreasonable about trades in the past. Pritchard especially was in love with all his players and didn’t want to give anyone up that he had personally drafted.

Rudy’s final FIBA stats:

13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in seven games, making more than half of his field goal attempts and connecting on 38.7% of his three pointers.

I think he probably helped his trade value somewhat during the tournament so it might have been a good idea to hang on to him. Considering that teams were offering picks in the teens durring the draft (why did Pritchard pass that up?) I don’t think it’s unreasonable for Portland to think they can eventually get more than a low first rounder. I think Cho’s just doing what’s best for his team and telling him to get over himself sounds unreasonable to me. Rudy has zero leverage, so he isn’t going anywhere until Portland says so. Sending Rudy somewhere he wants to go just because he said so sets a bad precedent.

That’s what the Bulls get for having such a great team. Late first round pick just aren’t worth all that much.

NBA's a league of egos

unfortunately, Rudy hasn’t earned one yet. I really hope I don’t seen that guy in a Bulls uniform this season

by we have already witnessed on Sep 5, 2010 8:46 AM CDT reply actions

Really we need a back small forward

I believe we`ll be fine without rudy, personally brewer, bogan, korver and occasionally cj watson. What worries me is the SF position. Sure we have deng after that all we have is JJ as a back up. I`d preffer Jarvis Haynes a good defender and decent 3 point shooter. he`s a vet last year i think he played with jersey

by BIGBULL85 on Sep 6, 2010 6:44 AM CDT reply actions

Not really.

You have Korver already backing Deng up at SF and if need be Brewer is going to play SF. He’s more of an SF anyway. Besides Johnson, you also have Bogans who can play in that position.

by Wake on Sep 6, 2010 7:28 AM CDT up reply actions

Right, we have a glut at SF

Korver still seems better suited for SF and Brewer cannot hit from outside – and that becomes less of a liability if you play him at SF rather than SG. Bogans is actually the only true SG on the team. Obviously, he isn’t a starter.

Carlos has provided us with a great winter drinking game. Evertime Booze puts up a shot, you put one down.

by Another Afflicted Chicago Fan on Sep 6, 2010 7:34 PM CDT up reply actions

what im scared about though

is that our backup sf’s cant defense to save their lives. maybe thibs can get them to be average defenders but as of now our back up sf are going to get destroyed on defense

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Sep 6, 2010 7:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Brewer is a serviceable SF on defense..

We have two guys who can play defense on the wing in Brewer and Deng. Put Bogans at the two and Brewer at the three, if Deng is out for some reason and you’d still be fine defensively. Our defense at the 3 shouldn’t be a problem this year.

by Grinder in Training on Sep 7, 2010 8:37 AM CDT up reply actions

but two are starting

I doubt brewer plays much 3

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Sep 7, 2010 1:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Well if Deng is in foul trouble or hurt

I’m sure he would get a fair amount of minutes there. How many SF’s do we need? Deng – 30 minutes, Brewer – 5/10. The fair majority of the game we will have a good defensive player at SF.

Not many teams are going to have a stopper at all times out there, if Korver’s in the game, one would hope his 3 pt. shooting outweighs his defense. If not, that’s a pretty terrible signing.
