This cracks me up to no end. Especially since a bunch of posters on other sites were sticking up for nba liv....i mean ELITE (Buwahahaha) after the demo came out. For those into video games in general this is pretty big news mainly cuz this kind of stuff is rare to happen, especially so close to release date. The game was supposed to be out next week, they have already started marketing the commercials and all of that...and wham..cut the chord....

As a gamer this is big news and shocking...as a fan of nba 2k...THIS IS FUCKING HILARIOUS....so for those of you who havent played basketball games in a while, or have been wondering on what bball sim to buy.....things just got easier. 2k is so much better that it literally knocked the competetion out....

i feel like people on this thread will like the game

because its very heavy on simulation and strategy vs. it being an arcade game.

theres revies for the demo

actually a great site to visit is operation sports, they basically meddle with all sport games in general, theres tons of gameplay footage and videos, some of the members got early copies of the game and are answering questions from other members, i think by the start of october there will be a few official reviews from ign and such…

but operation sports is a really smart and generally unbiased community filled with info and discussions….

2k should drop the price for 2k11

there is no competetion so they should just drop the price to like 40 bucks, that way the few that are gonna wait around for Elite (buwahahaha) might just give in an buy 2k since its so cheap, and possibly convert…..

The bigger news is NBA Jam is becoming its own stand alone game.

Which probably means they’re bringing over the Wii game modes to 360/PS3.

i dont know if thats the biggest

that was an obvious move. Nba jam had great buzz after e3, they had already begun marketing it for the wii…they probably add a few more features for the xbox and ps3 version, but i expect it to be a fairly cheap game. Whats bigger than that is their contingency pan to push nba live 10 forward after killing off the live franchise….they offering free updates of the entire roster and other online features (not including online play?) thats pretty big

it’s the RT and LT.
Not sure on PS3, but I would assume R2 and L2.

Or because...

Elite looked really shitty and dont want to embarrass themselves…and they finally decided to listen to the fans and make it better(and they usually never do that)…I’m not a fan or a particular game I just simply want the game that is better…And this year 2k looks that much better.

Yea

basically everyone was talking about how elite felt unfinished…the control scheme was the only good thing about elite…the a.i, the graphics, the gameplay mechanics, the animations, all of this seemed to look like they were rushed. When the demo came out one of the ea developers came on the operationsports board and said the game was more or less the finished version, with perhaps just another final patch to placed before shipment. Thats when the real negative reviews started coming through. So yea ea did the right thing by postponing the release, allowing the developers to actually develop the game. Those who are loyal to ea would probably appreciate the idea cuz at least that means ea isnt planning on giving them a watered down product, however those who were on the fence (so to speak) probably just go to 2k, and 2k fans just get a laugh out of the entire situation.

I do think EA is finally doing right by their fans, it will just be interesting to see how ea plays this out, will they steal ideas from 2k11, will they release the game by holiday season, will they scratch elite all together for this year and release it next year instead. I think from a gaming stand point this is in favor of EA Elite, they get to see what shortcomings 2k11 has and then make sure not to have those shortcomings in their game, at the same time from a business standpoint i can imagine this is a total mess for ea. Luckily they are a multibillion dollar company so they should be alright.

I think 2K is a good series but I am not a fan of the controls or...

the presentation. I also don’t like the commentary crew they have. I preferred EA’s. Kevin Harlan grates on you.

The players look pretty blocky in the 2K series as well. They seem more fluid with EA.

by Playboy_BullV on Sep 28, 2010 11:59 AM CDT reply actions

I started writing a longer comment but ill keep this one short

Live has always had better commentators overall, and they are damn near perfect in terms of their lighting effects and even sound integration. I liked the direction that live took with the controls, but i think its more complex than it should be. I think the sprint button is needed in basketball, because the a.i. cannot/should not be left in charge of when a player should utilize his max speed and shouldnt. I also think that pass should be left for a face button since every game (fifa, nhl, madden, mbl) has utilized facebuttons to pass….to change pass to a trigger is counter intuitive. The ea shooting mechanics definitely need to be retooled, too open to glitches (chek youtube), and is just a more complex (needlessly i may add) version of 2ks shooting style, but inverted.

2k has good face models, but terrible plasticky body models and again the lighting is terrible as well. I think since 2006 the biggest difference in the two games has been EA worked more on presentation and 2k worked on gameplay. Now 5 years later 2k is started to get the money to work on presentation and attract the bigger names while Ea is trying to set a better gameplay foundation. Nba 2k9-2k10 both suffered from better graphics but poorer gameplay, while live 9 and especially 10 made great strides in the gameplay dept. I think its also good to note that mike wang who worked on 2k5-8 went to Ea for live 9 and 10, and now is back for 11….

I think i ultimately prefer 2k because the gameplay is just more fun (in an attempt to be real) and the association mode (where i spend most of my time) is just really really deep. If nba live 10 is currently the best the ea franchise has to offer, i would say that it is a better visual experience thats more fun to play with other users, and elite will be tons of fun with other users as well, although at the same time you have to check your realism at the door and have to get away from “wait this guy shouldnt be able to shoot/dunk like that”

I really think presentation is the most subjective part when we get into these type of discussions. And when some say thats EAs strongest quality its juuusstt not that strong because its up to opinion usually.
While actual gameplay can be put up against the actual NBA now. (come a long way it seems)

I don’t trust EA since they got that license with Madden I thought that showed a lack of sincerity and I pay attention to companies. (though I don’t mind them supplying others like Bioware of course)
Not that I go in bias but I just think they’re more into buying things and shutting down competition than advancing the quality of their products at times. If they’re more so sponsoring a game then cool but if they’re more hands on then I may keep my distance.

by Camry on Sep 28, 2010 10:08 PM CDT up reply actions

this certainly is true

i mean what were the changes from nba live 03 through nba live 07? Essentially the same gameplay with like ten more animations and maybe a new feature added to an old feature. They took away some animations and features in one game, replaced it with a few “new” ones, then in the next version of the game they bring back some of those features and animations and called them new. In fact it was starting to get sad. Nba live 05 was the peak of their best, nba live 06 was essentially the same as 05 with a new feature that gave some players special abilities…which just resulted in an automatic block or shot…..Nba live 07 was the downfall when it was exactly teh same as live 06 with the new feature being that it now had high def graphics….really…that was it.

nba live 08 was rock bottom, it was essentially nba live 07 with a reworked animation system….what did they rework? NOTHING! They basically just handed the controls to their genius A.I. and ratings. You know how nba elite commercials talk about putting the control in your hands, talk about how “past basketball games” that were based on luck as opposed to skill in terms of shooting, and had canned animations…you know how they make it seem like it was probably 2k or nba 07 or some other company not named ea….well no….all those flaws were the flaws of the last 5 years of EA basketball….and its ironic they all were a major part of nba live 08….the worst basketball game on the planet…ever!!!! It was also the year when nba 2k8 came out, considered by many the BEST basketball game ever (in fact it was after this year that 2k started calling itself the best).

Like you camry my fear is that ea will concede in its inability to truly revolutionize basketball games and will find itself stealing its ideas (its already doing it!) from 2k, and because of that no one will really give it a chance…and so EA will do what most major corporations do when cornered….BUY OUT THE COMPETITION…or in this case, an exclusive nba licence…I think 2k has enough following to prevent it but money always talks…and EA has some deep pockets.

Ive heard that 2k had an nfl game a while back, and that that game still is considered pretty good, and at the time it was such an underdog but those who played it claim that it was the best football game they have ever played….my friends who have usually poke fun of Maddens slogan, “The Best Football Game Franchise Ever” yea…cuz you are the only one…

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

by piccolomair on Sep 28, 2010 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah I haven’t been impressed since 05 either. I love that 2k is knocking them around. To me putting out quality work is taking the customer seriously and maybe I’m asking for too much but just authentic.

I liked 2K football better really. Madden was good and its not a thing where I’m saying 2k was flat out better. Its just that Madden wasn’t ahead by a significant margin. I don’t have that great of memory of the two but 2k was really fun. To me money is transitory if someone can build off an idea and continue to expanding thats just gonna mean more.

Madden hasn’t had to do anything because people aren’t seeing the possibilities. Its like when Federer or Tiger dominate in their sports. “They’re the best eveeerr” but can they really be the best if not tested. I think having contemporaries/rivals actually helps the development of sports/music/games and all that good stuff.

Also I learned about NBA elite from this forum which is sad. I only learned about it recently and thought it was some other game not apart of Live series.

But I think Stern understands the situation I think 2k is good for the NBA.

I've been 2K over Live since 2K came out

and for me, it’s because it was the first basketball game that actually required a basketball mindset to play it.
Past versions of Live were dominated by Mitch Richmond raining threes or Shaq being literally unstoppable in the post or Shawn Kemp duking from the free throw line in traffic.
And fun and games, admittedly, but when I want something outlandish, I’ll play NBA Jam/Showtime.
2K blew me out of the water with its graphics and attention to detail, and it’s that latter point that keeps me coming back every year.
With MJ on board, and no competition, this year is where 2K takes its rightful place at the top.

Live got postponed because of some glitches in its demo.

I saw T2 at Walgreens in Deerfield he’s tall. if you’re wondering what his grocery list included: magnums, french vanilla ice cream and a 20 oz sprite

by Super-Structure on Sep 28, 2010 9:27 PM CDT reply actions

thats part of it but not the whole truth

glitches can be fixed through patches….you can release a soft patch now and release bigger patches later on…nba 2k10 was extremely glitchy, they had at least 3 patches come out within the 8 month period they were updating for. So if it was a matter of glitches, it wouldnt be set back to 2+ months later. Read the article above, or you can visit the now down elite website, where instead there is a blog from the head honcho of ea sports talking about how the game simply isnt ready, not glitched….

Well i got it

and i played it and….damn….

this isnt a full review cuz i havent looked at everything, and when i first started 2k10 i thought it was awesome, but a month or two later i saw things i didnt like….

first off the game sucks you in, litteraly. The opening cinematics lead you right into the first jordan challenge….which is the finals against the lakers. Its really well done.

Controls take some time to get used to, theres practice mode though to help you out.

Presentation is phenominal, in association, after a quarter ends it goes to a “break” in which they talk about some nba league round talks, its nice like a commercial kind of thing. Animations are nice, and the simulation mode is really awesome in terms of realistic results.

Ive only dabbled a bit in it, but if people have questions i can answer them or try….game is worth it though…

ill answer all questions...

except that one….

ive been playing it a bit mroe and heres what i have noticed…

passing and defense in general are hard. As is (at least for now?) going one on one at either side of the ball. The my player mode has a few cool new stuff, mainly its the way you can customize your dribble and shot (and often both at the same time moves) although they did condense the dribble packages

its gonna take some time getting used too, they got rid of all the canimation, which i feel is like a double edged sword, since animations can and often do stop immediately if you get trigger happy with the buttons.

The trade finder feature took the place of the trading block, which is fine, the trade finder itself is cool and neatly organized…whats cooler is that how it alters the trades to suit each other….

for example, i used james johnson in trade finder, and while scrolling through the teams i saw a nice trade for grant hill but the trade finder also alered james johnson by adding a first rounder..

so basically its like a team saying alright we will take james johnson from you and give you grant hill, but you also got to throw in a first rounder….which forces you to make the decision, what do you want in return.

Theres a few things i cant try yet, mainly anything associated with online play, If microsoft or 2k find out that i have this game a week before release they are most likely gonna ban my xbox…so for that reason i have taken precautions so that i dont connect to the internet until after the games actually released…
