Team U.S.A. vs. Slovania, Open Thread
Team Rose versus Team Dragic! First to get dunked on wins! Well, not really, but as the second of five games in six days Team U.S.A. squares off against another solid opponent. Phoenix Suns back up victim, I mean point guard, Goran Dragic had a strong showing in victory yesterday while our Derrick Rose had a quiet yet effective game while only playing 19 minutes. The starters are well rested and ready to take it to Slovenia.
The game is currently on both ESPN 2 and 3.

This is the difference between the starters and the bench players
They played great in garbage time against Croatia, but early in the game against a hungry team like Slovenia they are playing horribly sloppy ball.

wake up people!
there’s a game on!
rose with the first foul, so i don’t know if he was gonna guard dragic. billups has been on him.
dragic picked up two quickly hmself. if i’m not mistaken, slovenia minus dragic is kinda like britain without deng.
the starters for usa went out about midway through the first, since then 18-6 has become 20-9. they’re making turnovers like mad.
and my espn2 shows no time clock – it’s pissin’ me off!

I've always wondered why KD doens't get as many steals in the NBA
look at him this game…his length is absolutely crazy!

Still a young guy
He’s going to start racking up a lot of steals and blocks in the coming years.

I don't think Odom is used to people passing to him. Maybe playing with Kobe is getting to him

And because I love America.
But mostly for Rose.

They need to get used to this
These calls are going to happen all the time. This is a good experience. If they handle such call poorly against teams like Brazil they are going to lose.

Rose had some very good D just then, and a good pass that someone blew the shot on.
wide open 3 blown, but Rose is looking good.

vidmar wiki
From a physical point of view, Vidmar is average at best by NBA standards. He is 6-11 and has nice mobility and decent footwork in the paint, but lacks any kind of explosiveness and basically plays under the rim.

but i dont have the proper internet provider to support it
westbrook doubled/trapped
doesn’t give it up and gets a turnover. then makes a tremendous block at the rim to make up for it.

Rose is better than Westbrook at finishing
but Westbrook is def more exciting. Goes for the dunk
"Freeze it!... now roll it!" -Stacey King, greatest analyst ever.
by WalmartSecurity on Aug 29, 2010 10:11 AM CDT reply actions
Westbrook has never had a dunk as good as most of Rose's average dunks
He dunks it hard, and that’s great. But that is also why he’s missed 3 dunks in international play.

rose has been lights out
during these international games. he was 3-4 again today, 1-2 from beyond the arc. if he makes 1 of 2 3’s a game during the regular season thats solid. even better if he takes 4-5 and makes 2… 40% on 3 pointers is ok with me
by grabmesomeBOOZ on Aug 29, 2010 11:16 AM CDT reply actions
The international 3-pt line is closer
40% on international 3s isn’t anything special especially when rose is being left wide open.

im pretty sure his 3s in the nba will be open too.

well i havent seen rose's cumulative stats
but im pretty sure he’s over 45% on international 3’s. i was saying if he could do the same in the nba during the season that would be awesome. never said it would translate.
his 2 pt fg% hasnt really gone under 38-39% during any exhibition games (most of the games- except for 1 i believe- he’s 6-7, 3-4, 5-8). he’s taking smart shots and finishing when he needs to, hitting the open men and hustling on D. i like what im seeing (even tho his D is still average at best)
by grabmesomeBOOZ on Aug 29, 2010 9:34 PM CDT up reply actions
More importantly
He made a lot of good passes today and was opportunistic on the boards. To be honest it was good to see him pick up some fouls; means his defensive aggression is rising (even if a couple were dumb fouls.)
by Dr. Handsome, D.D.S. on Aug 29, 2010 11:34 AM CDT reply actions
just finished watching this. rose looked very good, clearly the best all around guard today, and
possibly the overall leader (not statwise, thats always going to be durant) of the team. his defense looked nice too (though it was sort of flagging near the end, but maybe kevin love’s defensive PnR incompetence might have been partly to blame for that). one thing i notice for him is he still has that john salmons syndrome where he rarely sags off his guy to help close driving lanes, and when he does it looks pretty weak. just a quibble on a nice game though.

Nah, they've reiterated over and over that Billups is the leader
and, with all his experience, i definitely agree.

anyone seen asik?
i haven’t had the patience to queue up one of the turkey games for more than a few minutes at a time. anyone have some observations on our new (backup) man in the middle?
i'm hot for teacher
I've seen him for a few stretches.
He’s one of the worst FT shooters I’ve seen in a while, but his form isn’t like.. Shaq-esque in terms of how awful it is.
"Did Michael Jordan join the Pistons when he couldn't beat them? No. He dug down deep and went out and kicked their fucking ass."
Is he as bad as Rondo?
My impressions (on a pixelly live feed) are that he’s big and somewhat slow. Didn’t catch too many minutes of him, though.
I want gray back! Hope he demands a trade soon… ;)
I think his FT shooting is even worse than Rondo.
Which sucks, to say the least.
