I'm having a little trouble figuring out how exactly he's doing this

Michael Beasley is better than Taj Gibson, and he’ll probably have a better season next year too. Not to rip on Taj, I really like him, but I’m just trying to figure out how he’s aligning these guys.

Superteams suck.

by Juiceboxjerry on Aug 25, 2010 3:11 AM CDT reply actions

I disagree

Beasley is not better than Gibson……….Gibson defense alone is better than Beasley awful defense and average offense put together, specially, considering he played with D-Wade last year and the guy was usually double and triple team and Beasley still had problems scoring points………..Beasley should have a better stats again this season over Gibson, specially, since Gibson coming off the bench and will play less minutes this year, but unless Beasley really improves on his game, the guy will still be a bust pick at 2 and a below average nba player

by Jermal on Aug 25, 2010 4:58 AM CDT up reply actions

Tough one

But I would give the edge to Taj because (1) he was a rookie and (2) beasley is such a big bust

by JustAnotherFan on Aug 25, 2010 7:29 AM CDT up reply actions

No way

Taj was better than Beasley last season. Beasley may have the better year this season, but Taj was better last year.

       Pts TS% TRR DRtg(Team)
Taj 9.0 52.1 15.4 103 (105.3)
Beas 14.8 50.5 12.6 103 (104.1)

The only category where Taj was worse was points. Taj was more effecient, rebounded better, and had a better DRtg compared to his team (although Beasley is not as bad as advertised). It’s still close, but that TS% is very telling. Taj was making plenty of rookie mistakes and still managed a better TS%. Furthermore, Beasley actually got worse year 2, so I don’t see any evidence that he is going to make a jump.

I have not been able to figure our his criteria...

Here is what he said about a more highly ranked player:

He’s a below-average shooter from long range who shoots too much, he’s not a great interior finisher. He’s a poor rebounder, a good defender at either forward slot to the naked eye (if not to the stat ledger), and at 24 he’s not some prospect worth taking your time on. He just appears to be a below-average forward to me.

Thomas, Miller, Salmons, James, Pargo, Gray, MLE, and (there is no LLE thanks to the Pargo signing) will not be here with a Max Free Agent...don't get too attached.

by Dionysus2.0 on Aug 25, 2010 8:38 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm not sure Beasley is better

16.1 PER and mediocre defense vs. 13.8 PER and good defense, pretty close. Factor in the off court issues and I think it’s fair to project Taj higher. It’s not like NBA GMs value him that high. Riley tried trading him all offseason and ended up having to give him away.

by YaoPau on Aug 25, 2010 10:02 AM CDT up reply actions

Beasleys D is worse than mediocre at PF

He’s much more passable at sF though.

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Aug 25, 2010 10:28 AM CDT up reply actions

Beasley rebounding is also not great

he average 6 rebounds a game last season as a starter and Gibson average 7.5 and didn’t start all year as a starter………..Deng even had more rebounds than Beasley, Deng average 7 a game and he is a sf

by Jermal on Aug 25, 2010 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

im a huge taj hater but even i gotta say beasley is worse than taj at this point

although. beasley certainly has the skillset to be better than taj by far.
im interested in seeing what a system where he is the main scorer will do for his career.
he played on a team dominated by wade so im skeptical a bit of what his stats show at the moment.

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Aug 25, 2010 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

are there still Gibson haters?

he’s a backup now, everyone’s happy.

Eeeeeeeeeeeekkkk!

In the past 10 years, just four team owners have not paid a luxury tax and are not on pace to pay one this year: Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf, Chris Cohen (Golden State), Bob Johnson (Charlotte).

Two owners’ teams averaged an operating income of over +$10 million per year while their teams have lost over 60% of their games: Donald Sterling and Jerry Reinsdorf.

im still a gibson hater.

we couldve had blair/collison/lawson etc etc

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Aug 25, 2010 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

or we could have had blair AND gibson

i hate JJ

I reject your reality... and substitute my own.

Two of those guys went before gibson

So I think you need to direct your anger elsewhere.

Bosh is 5th.

Duncan is listed as PF

Yeah, that one stuck out as well

I don’t think Dwyer took into consideration how much easier Nash made things for him

oh, I think he did

just didn’t think it was as much as others

Kelly loves Amar'e. Really, really loves his game.

Plus, I think Kelly is projecting that Amar’e is going to see a lot more touches in NYK than Bosh will next year playing Alfred to Batman and Robin (Wade and LeBron).

Oh and Amare was an absolute monster in the second half of last year when he got fully healthy. He was playing near an MVP level and actually looked like he gave a crap on defense (he was still bad, but he tried harder).

The Chicago Bulls hate shooting ability.

by fundamentallysound on Aug 25, 2010 7:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I still think duncan's no. 1

After him I’d go gasol, bosh, dirk, amare, boozer, but I think the gap between those guys is pretty negligible. Boozers last solely because of his injury history.

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Aug 25, 2010 6:14 PM CDT up reply actions

i think gasol should be one at this point in their careers

duncans starting to slow down
i still dont see how amare is part of that elite group though.

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Aug 25, 2010 6:23 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

id take boozer over any pf for this upcoming season

amare, bosh, and dirk are skinny weinies and duncans slow

by NeilFunk69 on Aug 25, 2010 6:15 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

how bout gasol

id rather have gasol.

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

I agree with your sound analysis

:)

Did you guys hear about the new Lebron James Iphone?
You have to keep it on vibrate because it has no rings.

by Rudey on Aug 25, 2010 6:24 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

technically amare is skinny

has like a 30 inch waist line……

I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

by piccolomair on Aug 25, 2010 8:08 PM CDT up reply actions

And then watch him get crushed by Gasol?

DANIEL HUDSON SUCKS. HOWS THAT GUN BAN WORKING FOR YOU MAYOR DALLY

by Ozzie Montana on Aug 25, 2010 10:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Gasol, Bosh, Dirk and Duncan

are all better.

I saw T2 at Walgreens in Deerfield he’s tall. if you’re wondering what his grocery list included: magnums, french vanilla ice cream and a 20 oz sprite

by Super-Structure on Aug 25, 2010 11:05 PM CDT up reply actions

David lee's not listed

So either Dwyer plain forgot about him or he’s being ranked as a center. Ditto for Al Jefferson.

Pat Riley is the devil.

by Poloplaya14 on Aug 25, 2010 9:00 PM CDT reply actions

Does Kelly hate Murphy?

why is he in every picture getting owned?

by regui8er on Aug 25, 2010 10:20 PM CDT reply actions

Just a running gag

He chose Ty Lawson for the PGs, Mayo for the SGs, LeRod for the SFs and of course Troy Murphy for the PFs.
I wonder who he will choose for the centers.
My money is on Chris Mihm… wait… he’s not in the league anymore.

by Dr. Handsome, D.D.S. on Aug 25, 2010 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

The only problem i had at pf was with Amare

I would had pick him 6, behind Gasol, Duncan, Dirk, Bosh, and Boozer……….in that order

by Jermal on Aug 25, 2010 10:51 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

I'd probably put Dirk at the #1 PF in the league (without looking at stats)

not a fantastic defender, I don’t know about his rebounding, but I do know that you can win a championship with him as your best player.

by Stacey_Is_King on Aug 25, 2010 11:15 PM CDT reply actions

you know that how?

Deng/Boozer/Noah: All your rebound are belong to us.

by Illini15 on Aug 26, 2010 12:51 AM CDT up reply actions

didnt gasol have more bad games in the finals than kobe?

I’m totally going off the top of my head atm. I remember thinking gasol was their mvp during the playoffs but kobe was the one that stepped up every finals game. I could be wrong

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Aug 26, 2010 9:47 AM CDT up reply actions

If this was 2005 I would agree but the Mavs choked away their only chance at a final. At this point Gasol is way superior to Dirk, it’s not even close. Gasol is the better rebounder, defender and passer, Dirk can score more but then again he is the top option while Gasol still has Kobe chosing to shoot 22 foot contested shots.

by C Smoove on Aug 26, 2010 10:04 AM CDT up reply actions

dirk is the far superior offensive player but gasol as a whole package is better

from now on instead of saying "go fuck yourself" im gunna just say "go join the heat"

by sin on Aug 26, 2010 1:17 PM CDT up reply actions

As I said Dirk can score more, he has more range but Gasol is better at scoring in the post.
